I certainly told them when they asked me the reason I was cancelling.

Me too. The women actually agreed with me 'cause her boyfriend was into the boxing.

No matter what you anoraks say or think every fighter has the right to earn a living no matter what weight or size they fight at. The same as you have a right to watch it or not. These web sites are monitored by the people who are involved in professional boxing and it seems to us that it is always the same few who pop up with negative points. I wonder how you would feel if you were one of the boxers reading this but then this is the only way you jerks get your kicks is by criticising honest pro's.

It would be much wiser to hold judgment until after the fight then we may take your criticism more seriously but to criticise before the fight could leave you with a lot of egg on your face.

Without starting a war with you guys how many of you actually buy tickets to go and watch real fighters at work and not the big event glory trip coz without the Friday night shows which sky have backed when other stations have pulled the plug there would be no glory events.

It's up to us what we watch on TV (paying for ripoff sports channels just to see boxing, many of us). And it's up to us what fights to go to. I will go to fights if it's competitive and if it's local. Is this the mythical "none of you lot are actual boxing fans" again? Boxing fans often aren't happy and the place they vent is on boxing forums.

A lot of us have done our bit supporting for example Friday Fight Night, but many posters on here have given the channels up because the fights just aren't interesting. I've been on the verge of giving it up for ages because the quality has been well below par. This sounds like "if you don't support so and so" you shouldn't pass comment.

Also I find it patronising that posters are "being monitored" for negative comments - we can say WTF we want re the quality of shows. Personally, I had a great time at Johanesson v Gomez in Doncaster, which you put on.

I would definitely say the Super FLyweight and FLyweight divisions in this country are fairly scarce with top talent. I'm actually looking forward to this scrap now tho I hope it'll be an entertaining little scrap, it would probably be best served as a main undercard bout tho on a bigger main event, as lets face it it's no biggie, but compared to some of the shite Warren has been serving up, this is decent as it isn;t one sided and I feel AHmed could surprise a few people.

I just hope there is good liquidity on betfair for this disgrace of a fight, I might have a bet as I am watching (my only interest in this farce). Sky really are showing contempt for boxing fans. Glad I'll be watching a stream and not giving them my hard earned for this bollocks. There will be streams available on the night lads and I'll be PMing them around.

You are missing the point completely. No one is denying the right of people to earn a living, but how is this a TV top of the bill? A British champion with a negative record against a guy who has only boxed six-rounders. It does not matter whether it will "be a good scrap". A few years ago, Sky was putting on world class fights, now it pays a flat fee to promoters for any British, Commonwealth and European title fight they care to put on and the cheaper the better.

Frank, why won't Sky put up the money to give Jamie Moore a real world class fight against a top-ten contender? Why do they insist on a title fight, even if it's poor?

What has Ahmed done to deserve a British title shot, or is it simply because he is one of four flyweights in the country, the Board think he is automatically good enough to box for a British title? Ahmed didn't even beat Delroy Spencer and has only beaten one boxer that has won a fight (and he had only won 3).

Do you or Sky care if no one watches or is it just part of their plan to run the sport into the ground?

Spot on Gobbles.

I'd love to know it Frank Maloney actually reads and approves these posts the FTM Press makes ? all of them? some of them ? none of them ?

If Frank is sending these out himself he loves to run down the people (or annoraks as he calls them) who have a real interest in boxing and take time to discuss it on forums with boxers coaches journo's etc. If the real hardcore fans can't have an opinion without being labeld annoraks that have never been in a ring or know anything about it, I can only assume that there are enough football fans out there paying for their Sky/Setanta subs to keep the likes of Maloney in the money.

FTM Press is very quick to jump down everyones throat that has a differing opinion but loves to post the press comments for their bouts etc. Whats that promote it here but dont answer questions except shouting at any sort of critisism. Ohh and also never replies to PM's either. Yet the BBBofC still refer us all here to get fighters records etc, when filling in their forms as they can't keep a record of the bouts and records themselves.

I would say FTM come across pretty unprofessional by posting regular rants at people on here to be fair. I aint got a problem with most Maloney shows as they are good cards usually with entertaining well-matched undercards. To come on here and slate people for having an opinion is wrong imo, people will just think Maloney Promotions are highly strung!

I'd say gota take people's views on the chin, let the people have their say and if you got somet to say in response don't let it turn into a rant. PR lesson 1 maybe for Maloney Promotions. I note how Hennessy have come in for some criticism (from myself and others) in how they let their boxers go stale between big shows, don't keep them busy enough etc.

In all that criticism I never saw Hennesy or someone from their promotions come on here and snipe at people for having that view and in that way I think that's the best thing they can do. The only way to answer criticism is to do something about it, better shows next time etc.

PS Ive aready said earlier in this thread I havent got a big prob with the Edwards - Ahmed matchup, I just don't see it as a card headliner on a TV fight night and evidently neither do most others.

I don't think he's being unprofessional, just standing up for his boxers. I don't really blame the promoters, even. It's just Sky being cheap and not backing its boxers like it should. Sky puts all its money into football and nothing into boxing. It should be building its fighters like Moore or Macklin and turning their fights into events, rather than just something to fill 2 hours each week.

Interesting that all the best British title fights of late have been on ITV4 or Setanta, with the exception of Norton v Dolan.

It certainly is disingenious to complain about customer complaints! (And after all, anyone who is a Sky Sports subscriber IS a customer, even if they don't attend the promotion). By all means anybody is entitled to defend their position, but resorting to name-calling is not exactly a good way to go about it!

Of course the boxers are entitled to earn a living, but that isn't the point. And it may well be a good fight (Chris Edwards usually provides top entertainment), but that isn't the point. The point is that the customer expects a certain quality for a certain price, and in this case they are not getting it. OK, that could open to interpretation, but you can see what the consensus is here, and paying customers have the right to comment on the product.

Let's say I go to the same buffet restaurant every Friday night. I pay a flat tenner each time, and I can usually be assured of some good Mediterannean fare, a sushi spread, a meat carvery, a fresh salad bar, and so on. And then one week I pay my usual fee and am presented with some Marmite butties, a bowl of ready salted crisps, and some jelly. Now, I do enjoy such things at certain times, and their manufacturers are entitled to make a living, but they're clearly different things for different prices.

Edwards-Ahmed should not be the main event on a subscription channel. Perhaps it would make for a nice midweek show, but it shouldn't be instead of a decent FNF bill-topper.

NB: As a customer, I typically find Maloney bills to offer the best value for money in terms of both name recognition, competitive matchmaking and genuine titles. I've said this for a long time. But being a fan of the "brand" generally does not mean I don't have the right to complain if need be too.

Dear me Frank (or Frank underling), what has got into you?

Since you ask, I and I'm sure many of the posters on here go to lots of shows, including yours. I'm on your mailing list. You often send me posters of upcoming shows. I quite often attend them.
Us 'anoraks' and 'jerks' are the ones who either attend the shows or contribute to FFN viewing figures, eg advertising, eg your TV fee.

Criticising your own customers like this is incredibly unprofessional and I'm very surprised at you. It is like putting an ad in the trade paper slagging your target market off!

I hear you may run for London Mayor again. Dear me, with skin this thin and communication this poor you don't stand a chance. When was the last time you 'didn't start a war' by referring to people as 'jerks' and 'anoraks'?

It is Frank.

I think he comes across badly online in attitude to the opinions of fans, and especially with the comments on Dunne before Dunne won an awesome world title fight with Cordoba. Ironically, his fighters like Moore and Sutherland come across well, interact with the fans on here.

I agree with oliverfennell - a lot of us have bought SS just for the boxing, so that makes us paying customers. As such, we are bleeding well entitled to an opinion. No way am I watching a flyweight or whatever it is main event.

Sykes-Crolla is an OK chief support, featuring 2 largely untested novices. It probably qualifies as good only because it features two normally over-protected fighters. Difficult to see both being champions, though, (unless they were 8st 10lb or below) so I doubt it will be long remembered.

Yes I would it is no different to going to watch a football match instead going to Man UTD every week. If you are a fan you watch all levels of sport not just the glory events. Sometimes us promoters do get it wrong but it is us who should get the flack not the fighters, they deserve respect for getting in the ring and it is every fighters dream to fight for a title. I would put my reputation on the line that this title fight that you lot are ripping apart could turn out to be a mini classic.

I do read all these comments on here and I do see the posts and approve them, it seems to me that you guys can say what you want and us people in the industry have to take it with a smile and if we have a go back we are unprofessional. I have no problem with your comments and BS you lot put up here but what I take offence to is you attacking fighters before the event, if the fight turns out as bad as some you guys say then maybe I may have to come on here and apologise. But I wonder if you guys will be man enough do the same.

You are right you have the choice to watch it or not, buy a ticket or not, critisise yes but not before the event.

Chris Edwards has appeared on Sky topping the bill in at least 3 fights and as far as I recall not one has been a bad fight.
