Careful there mate. Thats a direct a accusation of corruption.
Not cool.
Moreover, it's nonsence. It's hardly the case that he was "looking after" the fighters of a specific promotor, is it?
I think it's more to do that if you do a job for a promoter on one show you will get invited back for more work on the next one

Do promotors choose their own referees? I assumed they were appointed. "All officials are appointed by the British Boxing Board of Control..." etc...
Surely for a title fight then promotor can't just pick someone?

The referee gets put forward by the board but the promoter can veto them. The board knows what side their bread is buttered on .
Was it a coincidence that Vann reffed almost all Hatton fights under Warren?

Do they need to justify their veto?
Seems a rather odd system.

Didn't Warren loan the board some money to save their asses a few years ago or something?? I read that somewhere on the forum. Ridiculous if true.

Sorry if i upset you . Did'nt mean too ,, honest,,, . it may be my lack off education and or my lack off knoledge regarding the boxing world , I only boxed for 22 years , trained and managed for another 20 after that , I only had close too 300 fights ameteur and pro , so i don't really know too much about it..
I do know one thing , though regardless off how much you like or hate him Hatton got away with murder in his fight with Zoo he held, he blatantly hit below the belt he got away with murder , AND HE WON . Barrera was allowed to carry on with a massive cut , when the same ref has stopped fights for less, but in my limited knoledge i knew why it went on , or rather i assumed that
scenario one -------Barrera says i can't see there's blood in my eye , i can't go on . BARRERRA QUITS discision to Khan
scenario two--------Barrerra does'nt quit , fight goes on Barrerra does'nt get stopped Khan starts too slow even with one eye Barrera starts too land , Barrerra lands one good one and goodnight Khan .
scenario three ----- fights allowed to go on right until the countback rule KHAN WINS .
Now i don't know much, so i am only guessing, but when a referee ANY referee, notice the lack off names , cos i don't like fighting and arguing , so i will not accuse anyone in paticular , but when a VERY VERY experienced ref does things like allow one too blatantly foul , step in and blatanly stop the other fighters ryhthem . the same ref then allows another GOLDEN BOY too, get out off the fight with a sure win because off cuts , and both WINNERS belong to certain promoters , I sort off start too think i'm watching b grade 1930's movies. U know cigars in the gym, wink wink, does has your told style movies .
But off course i off all people know thats all rubbish , because after nearly 300 fights and 20 years training , I've never seen wink wink, nudge nudge , lets look after the home boy, and we'll all be ok, type scenarios, , And i doubt very very much, when you get some refs who are well paid higher echelon, that they would risk promoters coming up with reasons to vito them from the more lucrative vip engagements, that come with 5 star accomadation, champagne and prawns for breakfast , and a after fight party where there slapped on the back for doing a great job.
Sorry if i upset you my comments were not to be concieved that there is any sort off underhanded , shennanagins going on , because it could well and truly be just sheer incompetence. You just don't know

I've only seen Parris in the last 3 years, as I didn't live here before that, and we, my company and I have noticed he is not impartial and always favours the important Brit fighter, perhaps that what he's paid top do... he certainly isn't alone either!

The Dave Parris decline started for me with his unusual behaviour and scoring of the Williams Sprott fight back in 2004. It was most peoples view that Williams had won a lack-lustre fight but Parris appeared to take exception to Williams that night and gave Sprott the nod. Since then Parris has ruined many a fight night by nagging at one or other boxer to the point that you can't see the fight for the ref.

Well you seem to have got side tracked in to using the generic term "referees", where as my criticism was in line with the title of the thread, ie, Dave Parris himself. Parris has been singled out, because he has'nt been consistent with his decisions, in comparison to other referees. I actually answered the initial post on this thread, by stating that Referees should be demoted a level, if it's deemed that their performance has slipped below a standard that is required at a particular level. Whether that applies to Dave Parris or not is for others in an official capacity to decide. My point was that Parris on the night of the Khan - Barrera was on the side of boxing politics and not a fighters health, which i feel is a valid statement to make, given the circumstamces and outcome of that fight
Agreed.
Its clear to all that Parris has been inconsistant and the Khan Barrera fight is a shocker. I actually forgot how bad that was intil you pointed it out.
I may get some flak for this, but I've never liked Parris since the Hatton Tszyu fight. He let Hatton away with murder in the fight (Hatton had the beating of Tszyu anyway with his pressure and size imo) but he got away with too much.
Parris just isn't a good referee in my opinion and it's gotten to the stage now where the howlers are beginning to add up. How many more are we going to have to see before something is done?
Maybe it's to do with the lack of up and coming referees and that's why Parris is continually used. I don't mind a referee intervening, as was the case with the Cleverly - Boyle fight, where the guy was completely out of his depth, but in cases like at the weekend, when McDermott was stopped, i think that was a little premature. As for the Barrera fight, that was absolutely disgusting and needs looking into, because it's palpably obvious why Barrera was stopped in the 5th round and not the second.

too me are a-refs form are really slipping, parris really concerns me he doesnt seem content on being in there & has little patience, i think some should be demoted to a or b refs as they become complacent & go backwards.
john lewis is the worse imo.

I would say britains best refs are IJL, Howard Foster, Victor Loughlin and Richard Davies
Victor Loughlin needs to be promoted to A star if he isnt allready.

Agreed. I think Richie Davies is the best of the lot though.

I think the Scottish ref Victor loughlin is an A Star Referee as he has handled quite a few title fights in the last few years ( i think you need to be A Star to ref a title fight ) although i may be wrong . He handled the recent Quigley v Dodson fight .
Victor Loughlin needs to be promoted to A star if he isnt allready.[/quote]

He's dreadful, utterly, utterly dreadful.
But then so is everyone involved in British boxing, from top to bottom (not the fighters, everyone else)
British boxing is like Newcastle United
everyone involved needs to be taken in to a field and shot in the back of the neck
1st up, Carl Frotch's PR people
2nd, Spu....
and so on

One of the decisions he gave which I didn't like was Danny Williams Vs Sprott in the 3rd fight. Sure Danny was being a tool. Turning his back to Sportt and walking away etc. Danny won the fight pretty easy. Because Danny was playing up and he gave Dave Parris a hard night. He gave the fight to Sprott.
