Yes he was.

Without having a copy of a timely magazine to hand, yes he was.

Fan opinions about who won or lost a fight do not affect the rankings. Besides, that was in a different division. At LMW, Oscar was coming off an awesome performance against Mayorga that reinvigorated his career in a big way.

Floyd has not been dominant above 135, simple as.

Beating DLH doesn't make him the top 154 man, because DLH himself never came close to proving he was the best at the weight. Floyd only has one destructive performance above 140, and that was against Hatton, himself a 140 pound fighter,

He was certainly better than Hatton and I believe a harder fight than Mosley or Cotto.
Cotto and Mosley present massive challenges for Mayweather at 147, and he knows it damned well.

I'm comfortable with Mayweather having not fought Shane. The Oscar fight was bigger financially and as an occasion and let's face it, most of us thought Sugar was slightly shopworn.

Now Mosley is re-invigorated, if Floyd is serious about a comeback, he needs to fight him.

Cotto was, and is, the biggest gap on his resume. Its a 50-50 fight, has been all through the last 4 years.

If I'm not mistaken Shane himself turned down a fight with Floyd years ago because he was aiming funnily enough for a fight with Oscar.

Of course they do but lets remember that Floyd went all the way up to 154 and fought a pretty good version of DLH, in a fight many thought he would lose because he was too small. That was, I believe, a harder fight than Mosley or Cotto will be.

Cotto is a fantastic fighter, but not sure why he is held in this god like esteem. He's only beaten Jennings since the Margarito beating.

Great viewing, Floyd was grilled and rightly so.

You dont have to like Brian Kenny but your a fool if you dont think this grilling was neccessery. In every other sport the best have to face the best, but in boxing dodging has become the norm. If every reporter had the nerve that Brian Kenny showed in that interview the likes of Calzaghe, Ottke, Jones Jr and a ton of other past champions would have never have gotten away with cherry picking their oponents for all those years. It ruins the sport we love but has become very acceptable over the years.

I cannot understand how anyone could think Kenny was in the wrong or how anyone could think Mayweather held his own or even came out on top in that interview, go and buy an IQ for fcuk sake. Kenny made him look like the dodger he is, he did "the sport of boxing" proud in that interview.

Well done Brain Kenny :TU:

Exactly, i very much doubt he'll ever fight either of them. In my opinion he'll likely fight Pacquio at the end of this year (much the smaller guy and i believe Mayweather fancies it, he's playing coy just now IMO!), and i reckon he'll have Pacquio's number. He'll then claim he's beaten the best of the best, the guy we all wanted to see him fight and that he's nothing else he needs to prove.

Fcuk that, the Pacquio fight is appealing, but he has never been hit on the chin above 135lbs and to me is still unproven at the higher weight because of that alone. Mayweather should be fighting the real names at 147lbs, the Marquez fight is a fcuking joke IMO, however good he is at 135lbs there is no knowing if he can adapt to the higher weight. A guy of Mayweather's calibre should not be bringing up challengers from 2 divisions below, its rediculous. However unlikely i think it is, i hope Marquez does a job on him!

Mayweather should be fighting either Cotto or Mosley, Margarito or Williams. If he needs a tune up fight it should be against a natural 147lbs fighter, not a career featherweight turned lightweight!

You say the Pacman fight is appealing, yet JMM outboxed Pacquaio over 24 rounds.

That was before Pacquaio's recent fights, ie, Diaz, De La Hoys and Hatton, plus Pacquaio seems to keep improving and has good power at the higher weight classes, so that's why it's an appealing fight.

He's unproven above 135lbs you numb nut.

It does not matter what happened between Pacquio/Marquez, nobody would have really wanted to see the PacMan jumping from 135lbs straight after the Diaz fight to 147lbs to face Mayweather. People want to see it now because Pacquio has since fought, and demolished, De La Hoya at 147lbs and Hatton at 140lbs. Perhaps Marquez would have done the same to them (unlikely) but the fact is, he's a career featherweight thats never fought above 135lbs. Mayweather should be fighting proven challengers at the weight, and for the record, its my view that there are far more dangerous challengers out there for him than Pacquio.

Floyd does not come across well but the criticism of him is a bit harsh. Marquez is a good comeback fight considering FMJ hasn't faught (why can I not spell that word today) in 18months, not everyone will do a Leonard-Hagler after being out for a while. Speaking of which, why is it ok for Hagler/Hopkins to make big fights with WWs/LWs?

The size difference between FMJ-Marquez isn't that much, they'll probably be 4lbs difference on fight night and a bit of reach. The only reason Marquez isn't given a chance is because he wouldn't be given that much of a shot if Floyd was still a SFW/LW. If Marquez-Pacquaio was announced tomorrow many would favour Marquez, same with Marquez-Hatton

As for the ridiculous statement that Floyd's unproven above 135. Lets see fights two titlists (albeit weaker 1s) at 140, moves to 147 and fights the previous and current undisputed champions back to back, followed by beating the fighter considered no1 at 154 who was also a 6weight champion, followed by beating the Linear 140lb numero uno and WBA Welterweight titlist who some accused him of ducking. Interestingly in 2006 Brian Kenny accused Mayweather of avoiding Hatton/Baldomir for the real linear championships.

Now Floyd should face Mosley, Cotto and maybe even the shamed Margarito. But lets not forget Mosley and Margarito have actually turned down fights with Floyd, there is allot of politics going on here above the 'he avoided/ducked' such and such

Everyone is clammoring for Floyd to fight Mosley and criticising him for not fighting him. However Floyd went up to ONE FIFTY FOUR POUNDS and fought DLH who BEAT MOSLEY IN THEIR REMATCH (lets be real here lads). Kind of funny that.

However, like I said, Floyd gets JMM and Pac but afterwards he has to fight a top boy at 147. If Pac doesn't happen after JMM, he has to fight a top boy at 147. I believe he will.

PBF offered Shane a fight a 2 years ago, but SSM did not want it at that time, he needed 2 warm ups.
