You no what he aint far wrong by saying the only manchester trainer who knows about the technicle aspects of boxing training is Brian Hughes, in fact he is bang on the money. The only ones who may have an argument is oliver harrison and to my embarrasment cannot remember his name, the trainer who trains David Barnes

Bob Shannon. Just spoke to him funnily enough. He felt Fury should make sure he's visited all the gyms before he passes judgement. .

What is Fury - a novice pro who mostly blows away tiny little blokes (relatively speaking) - on about?

Is Fury so fundamentally sound that he can dismiss good trainers like this?

The Manchester fighters are among the most compact fighters in the country, so the trainers of guys like jamie moore, john murray, matthew murray, matthew macklin, going back michael gomez, carl thompson, must have been doing something right. even early in their careers most of these were turning their shots over better than fury is. manchester has produced some of the best aggressive fighters around.

let's see if "Tyson" knows what he is doing when he fights someone that won't fold, and that will hit him hard, back.

I like Tyson Fury - I unlike many of you think he is the better of the upcoming heavyweights.

He beats Price every day of the week!!!

Manchester is filled with trainers who dont have a clue or are 100% out of there minds.
Or they hold full time jobs and can not make the time needed.
There's not really any stand out guys, I think Tyson is spot on.

I think Tyson beats Peter right now myself. Anyone see Peters last fight against Chambers? He looked pathetic.

Yes Tyson has shown improvement and has alot of potential, but he has yet to be hit on the chin which is what it mainly comes down to.

Jason Rowland, in my view is one to watch. He's not the noisiest and you'll not hear him talking himself up.

He approaches his craft in a quiet, thoughtful manner. He was schooled very well at Repton, swearing by the teachings of George Odwell and then as a pro by Jimmy Tibbs.

He's not opposed to trying new things and learning from others.... He often tells me that the fighter makes the trainer, He's not too regimented and listens to his fighters.

He is a relatively new professional trainer, but I feel that in years to come, he will be spoken of in the same way as Tibbs, Hughes etc...

Again, I know there'll be those that are not sure.... but it's only opinion.

Tyson Fury Front and Centre

Despite only being a pro since last December heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury graces the cover of this week’s Boxing News .The vastly respected magazine is the only weekly boxing magazine in the World and is this year celebrating it’s centenary having been first published back in 1909. The magazine normally reserves their front cover for established World stars so Fury’s appearance is a testament to the impact he has had on the sport during his short career to date.

The cover story relates to Fury’s second round destruction of Scott Belshaw at the Watford Colosseum last Saturday night with editor Claude Abrams suggesting that former world Heavyweight Champ Oliver McCall may be an interesting matchup for the 6 foot 9 inch 20-year-old.

McCall who famously won the title with a stunning second round KO of Lennox Lewis enjoyed another second round win in Las Vegas at the weekend to press his claims for another shot at the heavyweight title.

Fury who has now won all 6 of his pro fights by stoppage will return to the ring at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan on Saturday, June 13th when he features as the chief support to the British Lightweight title fight between John Murray and Scott Lawton.

Boxing News front cover this week also pays tribute to Darren Barker’s one punch stoppage win over Darren McDermott in the main event at the Watford Colosseum last weekend under the heading “Slick Barker, Pure Class”.

Barker’s clinical fourth round victory saw him successfully retain his Commonwealth Middleweight title and set up an eagerly awaited domestic showdown with British Champ, Matthew Macklin.

i enjoy following Tyson who seems a nice fella to me. Gave me a good laugh on Saturday with that dodgy "Thriller" entrance but at least it went part way to making up for what was a God awful spectacle in the ring. Belshaw might as well have put a second class postage stamp on those crude swings.

That aside I had to look twice at the front cover....is that Tyson Fury??? moment. What a crap cover I thought and if you most feature a full page shot of a 6 fight novice who isn't even tested against any of the top British heavies, let alone Oliver fricking Mccall, at least put a decent photo of him instead of that sulky mugshot, not least when one of our Creme de la Creme fighters, Froch, didn't even get a full page shot the week after he won the world title in a fight of the year.

NB......I have little doubt that Tyson would step in with the Atomic Bull tomorrow......he gets stopped in 4 for my money though.

Cover shots are based on what else is happening in a given week. Froch had some major league competition if you recall in the shape of the Hatton-Pacquiao megafight preview. Fury's main rivals were Barker, Cleverly and a Calzaghe feature piece. As everyone seems to be talking about Fury (even if it is to say how boring he is) we went with Fury. To give an idea of the buzz surrounding Fury, our web interview with him has done 800 page views in a day and a half which is excellent for our site. As for the quality of the shot, horses for courses, we clearly liked it enough to go with it but it seems not everyone will. Let's see how the issue sells and we will know if we got it right or wrong.

Arnie has exactly the same approach as Rowlands from what i have heard

I could definitely see him beating Peter in two or three fights if Sam continues his slide and Fury continues to improve.
