Didn't the fight sell 60000 tickets?

Can someone put this into perspective with some ticket numbers for other Wlad fights?

I could be totally wrong, but I'd say Haye will always be in Wlad or Vitali's sights with that kind of interest generated, unless he fights and loses to someone of much lower stature at heavy.

On the upside, If Wlad were to take out Chagaev or Povetkin (both hard fights), and Haye were to say beat a top 10 guy with a bit more about him than the likes of Barrett, possibly Vitali, then you have an absolutely megafight in the works for later on in the year or 2010.

Worst case scenario, Wlad and Haye lose their next fight and the match-up goes cold.

So where now for David Haye??

These are truly bad times for David Haye. After David managed to get himself a shot without really earning one the fight has now collapsed. Wlad faces a fighter man think is the best in the division in a truly quality fight. He will then face Povetkin...David will be left on the shelf.

Thats bad for Haye for many reasons. One being the fact that the guy is chinny, he went down numerous times and was stopped down at Cruiser, plus his amateur stoppage defeats. David was fast tracked to a title shot because he is liely to get chinned very quickly in this divison. Get him while he is still at the top of his marketability.

So what now, will he have to go out and EARN a shot...and if he does will he ever get his title shot, who says he wins these fights against the top contenders?

He DOES need to earn his shot. With the Chagaev/Klitschko bout on, its a GREAT step in the right direction. If Chagaev wins, a Chagaev/Vitali bout would be TREMENDOUS in determining an undisputed HW champion. However, as far as Haye is concerned, he should take on Arreola or Povetkin, otherwise you might as well say he's out of the picture for at least a year with all the mandatories in line.

His best bet, would be to take on the Interim WBA champ Nicolay Valuev.

I can vividly hear Ian Darke's voice intoning about how Haye's world championship pretensions are now in tatters, after he walks onto a big shot in the 3rd round of his next fight when he'd had his opponent wobbling and went in for the kill.

But then I hear a lot of voices in my head, so it doesn't necessarily mean much.

He definitely needs to get some rounds in as the Barrett fight was late last year. He would need to face a name, but not a potential threat. However it was hard enough getting an opponent of Monte's status, and if his next fight isn't for a title then it's going to be doused in the stolid stench of anti-climax, which would presumably reduce the punter count and might even possibly dilute his motivation.

If he gets Vitali in the Klitschko lottery I think he's going to need snookers, or at least some snooker balls in a football sock. Either way Vitali isn't falling. Valuev is potentially outboxable (can I trademark that?) but surviving 36 minutes without a 23 stone man's leaning and holding taking it's toll is quite a big ask for such a smaller chap with a dubious chin.

I wonder if a Chagaev win would potentially fast track him again? Or would Ruslan have to face Povetkin in September?

It could thus be a long wait with a few possible derailments.

Anybody got Audley's number?

Haye needs to keep busy fighting some contenders, it is risky of course, but fighting Williams etc is a step in the wrong direction, he has to keep himself in the mix, if he steps down the level of competiton, he isn't keeping his name up in the upper eschelons.

Haye will have to have some more fights and work his way back up to the position that he found himself in a week ago, one fight away from becoming a possible heavyweight champion of the world. Can Haye get away with fighting Bonin type fighters untill another world title opportunity comes along or will fight fans and the governing bodies take a stance and demand that he goes through the proper stages, ie, fighting top ten ranked heavyweights and going through an eliminator to earn the right to another world title fight.

What do you guys think ?
I'll tell you what I think Quix,

Get him "the nipple" (Areola) in 3 to 5 weeks and I bet he makes the big bum look pedestrian at best.

Haye KO 4.

Isn't it funny how your world can be turned upside down with one simple twist of fate?

I thought Vitali v Arreola for the Staples Center in the summer was as good as made. Has something changed?

Nice to see you over here Jon :D

Haye was in a great position until the injury, because one, he had a 50 -50 chance of becoming a heavyweight champion of the world and two, even if he had lost to Klitschko, he would have been able to say that at least he had a go at trying to claim the title. Now, he could end up losing to some journeyman or top ten ranked heavyweight, because of the dodgy chin, which was apparent even in the Barrett fight.

I feel that Haye still represents a big pay day for any heavyeight out there and so fortunately for him, i can see him figting only once, possibly twice before he lands another shot at a world title. People are now talking about a september date with one of the Klitschko's, so it looks like it could just be one fight and if that's the case, he certainly won't be facing arreola, even though, like you, i think that Haye would knock hin out with three or four rounds.

My guess is that he fights Rahman, then one of the Klitschko's in September.

I think he'll get in with a 10-30 ranked heavy this summer while Wlad fights someone else.

Haye willl spark him out then the hype machine will begin again and he'll fight one of the Klits by Xmas...
i agree. The division is in such a lame position-haye against a klit is the only fight that matters

The Valuev fight SHOULD be made, but won't. I think it could be made- Valuev's 'fit' and was ready to fight Chagaev a couple of weeks ago, Haye's injury (I buy that story by the way- I've a long term back injury from training and sometimes you can just feel it spasm and you know, even if it's not even hurting you that much, that unless you stop training immediately and rest you'll have trouble even walking for the next week) is apparently minor and he'll be back in action soon, so the fight could theoretically happen. I can't see how this fight wouldn't sell, especially in England. Even if the wider British public doesn't know anything about Valuev, a world championship bout with a 7 foot monster at, say, the O2, would probably pack the place out.

Also, both Haye and Valuev have been waiting around and have both just lost out on big fights. They need to fight and make money.

BUT... This fight has to go through Don King, who would serve Haye up with an even shittier contract than the one the Klitschko's got him into. Plus what with Chagaev's history he might not even make it through the medical for the Klitschko fight and Haye could be back in the picture anyway. I would guess this is what he and Booth are banking on?

Valuev would destroy Haye, the Russian is made out of granite and won't go down.He would be stalking Haye and would eventually land something. It would look like a quicker ending version of Williams/Samil Sam.

This is why Boxing is a joke, and more specifically, "HW Boxing".

If there was any common sense, which obviously there isn't, Valuev-Haye would be made.

But that's most likely not going to happen.... ever

He's got to fight. rather than 3 weeks this whole thing has set him back a year to 18 months. He needs 3 fights in a year - Johnson, Arreola, Povetkin. All dangerous but winnable. That would make him a mandatory for any heavyweight belt out there (except the WBA  ).

fighting Vitali Klitschko would be one big mistake - yeah get in there with Wladimir but no chance against Vitali.

He definetly needs to keep active a fight with Harrison or Skelton just to keep active he has been out the ring for over a year and if the Klitschko fight gets rescheduled for say September he has been out the ring for around 14 months and if Hayes ring rusty Klitschko will take full advantage imo

He just needs to fight, once he's ready he should look to stay busy, there's plenty of fights out there for him. Harrison, Williams, Sprott, Skelton, Rogan are all better than sitting on his arse twiddling his thumbs, maybe go for Samil Sam or even Oliver Mccall.
