I think Khan would stop Murray relatively early, if his chin didn't get checked. Khan is a logistical nightmare for Murray - he's fast as hell, hits decently hard, lands a lot of shots and moves good. I could easily see Murray down a few times and knocked out.

But with Khan's chin, I could say the same. Get it on boys.

Khan is world class for beating who? His one venture into competitive world class didn't even last 60 seconds.

Do you beleieve everything SKY and Sports Network tell you? I have a pyramid scheme you might be interested in.

It's based on having seen him fight pal........not what people tell me.

I personally think he's a world class boxer, he proved that as an amateur - you don't win a silver medal at the Olympics if you're not class - and besides a few shaky moments and the KO v Prescott he's had a good career so far. I think he'll go on to do a lot more..

Don't be so fornicating patronising. Or go and watch the guy box - world class hand speed and movement, good power, suspect chin (admittedly) and skilful. He's a very, very good fighter.

You're obviously saying Prescott is world class and what is that based on?

But what if you win a gold like Audley?

Lol.

As for Prescott... I enjoyed watching him scrape a decision over a 10 fight Cuban previous to Amir. I think the fights that sandwich Prescotts icing of Khan, both 10 rounders, put Khan & his future prospects into sharper focus.

I have absolutely no argument when it comes to Harrison.....total waste.

But we both know if he'd truly had the desire and will to win he could have been a world champion. Never mind his dodgy chin, there are plenty of world class stars who've had dodgy chins - Hearns, for example.

We'll agree to disagree on Khan, and for the record I don't listen to a word that comes out of SN, having been stung by them myself in the past.

Khan is too quick and too talented for Murray.
quick mobile guys don't always win. it's easy to say someone is too fast. is it not a bit of a reach to think that the fast guy will just land at will all night? the other guy can do things like make the ring smaller, jab his way in (murray's jab was an excellent weapon v the quick mcallister), wokr the body - slow down the quicker guy.

what if khan gets in trouble? how many ppl have any belief in khan's ability to survive? i won't until i see him do waht haye did v mormeck & frago, and ben dunne did v cordoba.
I know that and agree, but the fact is Murray just isn't that good. Khan is way better and that's why he wins. Not just because he's quicker.

Thaxton has a good chance of beating Murray.

I disagree, HS. I believe Thaxton is made for Murray. I am expecting Murray to walk through him and break him down. As much as I like Jono, he's strictly British level, whereas it's fair to say that Murray has a massive chance of eclipsing that.

John Murray says he’s ready, willing and able to step into Andreas Kotelnik’s boxing boots should the German based Ukrainian’s suffer any further injury problems ahead of his rescheduled World title clash with Amir Khan at the MEN Arena in Manchester on July 18th.

The undefeated Murray improved his perfect record to 27 and 0 last weekend with an impressive demolition of English Champion Scott Lawton and the Mancunian would be more than happy to make Bolton rival Khan victim number 28.

It was confirmed yesterday that Khan’s World title bid was being postponed for 3 weeks with the venue switched to the MEN Arena after Kotelnik withdrew from the original date at the O2 in London with a toothache.

“Boxing seems to be jinxed at the moment with fighters getting injured,” said Murray. “In the space of a couple of weeks you’ve had David Haye, Floyd Mayweather Jnr. and now Kotelnik having to postpone fights and I just want to make it clear that I’m willing to get in there with Amir if Kotelnik has any more problems.

“To be honest I know that the Manchester fans would be way more interested in seeing me and Khan getting on it than the Kotelnik fight anyway and it would pack out the MEN.

“What a night that would be. I think it would be up there with the likes of Benn and Eubank in terms of big British fights. I think our styles would really match up to make it a sensational scrap but ultimately I don’t think he’d be able to deal with my pressure, strength and power.”

Murray abandoned any post fight celebrations on Saturday after he was told that the Khan – Kotelnik fight was in doubt.

“I went home, watched the fight back and had an early night because I was told that Khan might be looking for a new opponent for the original June 27th date. My promoter Mick Hennessy told them that I’d be available for the 27th but they’ve rescheduled it now for July 18th but if Kotelnik has any more problems then I’ll be ready to step in for him.

“I’ve offered to fight Khan quite a few times over the years now but nothing’s ever come of it. He hasn’t even proved he’s the best fighter in his weight in Greater Manchester let alone Britain, Europe or the World.”

Khan recently said he rated Kotelnik as the worst World Champion in boxing and Murray believes it’s a fight that his rival can win as long as his chin holds up. “Kotelnik’s nothing special,” said the 24-year-old. “He was a decent amateur and he’s tough and strong but Junior Witter beat him a few years back in a European title defence and I’ve never been overly impressed with Kotelnik any time I’ve seen him.

“Khan’s fast and flashy but he still makes so many mistakes and his chin is obviously suspect. Breidis Prescott needed less than a minute to prove that and anyone that catches Khan square on the chin with a half decent punch will probably knock him out.”
If it wasn't for you he probably would have moved onwards and upwards himself. You're too busy having Tyson Fury's old man sat on your lap, you should stop holding him back with inactivity and pointless defences and get him the fights he deserves.

I'm not sure he has. I can't see Murray going past Euro level which Thaxton reached (albeit briefly). There is no way he'll ever win a 'proper' world title.

I do concede at this point in their careers Murray is the favourite over Jono, and I would expect him to win, but Jono can win this fight if it gets made. Murray is not great defensively and Thaxton has good power at lightweight....

Also, McCallister was outboxing Murray early on but faded as he reached the middle rounds and got taken out and McCallister is nothing great at all.

Maybe its Norwich bias, but I do give Jono a chance. Its a 60/40 in Murray's favour for me, but don't write Jono off!

HS, McAllister was all wrong for Murray, in the same way Khan is. Movement, good jab and elusive, all the things Thaxton isn't good at. Look at the Mezaache fight. Jono was getting beat to the punch all the time. He was slow and he will try to trade with Murray like Meager did, and look what happened to him. Obviously Meager isn't as good as Thaxton but they're both the same, they would attack Murray instead of box him, because that's the kind of fighter they are. And I just believe that Murray will just be too good. There's not many at lightweight who I would fancy to come out of a brawl with Murray. If he's going to lose in his career, it will be against boxers like McAllister or Khan, not against brawlers, especially below world-class in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, Murray is very beatable, but at this stage in both of their careers, I can't think of one thing that Thaxton does better than Murray. I believe Murray to be a better version of him. I would have this fight 90/10 if favour of Murray.

i just realised. every time we talk about Thaxton, i mention Mezaache, when I mean to say Melero.

Great punch, great KO, but if we're honest with ourselves, Melero was absolute bobbins that night. He came out with a knee brace on and the threw nothing. It was pretty clear very early that Melero didn't seem up for it. He just seemed to not do anything at all.

I just see no way that Thaxton will beat Murray. Sorry lads.
