Surely Sky Box Office reduces risk for SKY?

Isn't the cost greater to put on a SBO show.... e.g. better opponent, bigger undercard, longer presentation etc. I don't know, only reading some of the snippets from some of the papers - Sky had a "break even" figure for Khan fights that they haven't been hitting.

no surprise aboutr SBO. ppl won't pay £15 to watch a 19 year old fringe and flap his way to "world class" (khan). even if they've heard of his name from the back of the newspaper before.

froch and witter are entirely different in terms of marketability.

They are, but still don't think "enough" different for SKY - just my opinion. If Sky don't want to nuture Degale on Saturday night TV with an excellent undercard.

If it was Ricky Hatton with Hennessey, then I would be agreeing. I just don't see Sky wanting to pay big money, to get Froch a decent fight with US TV happy also. Football first is Sky's priority.

If Sky had Setanta's interest, or Setanta had Sky's money - then problem would be sorted.

boxing really does seem fvcked. if it costs too much to put fights on, if promoters, say, lose money paying a king's ransom to rivals bring their titles over for unification (kessler-calzaghe for instance), then top level boxing doesn't seem sustainable. top fighters must be getting paid too much, expecting too much. cue more "shifty boxing", te kind we're all to used to. let boxing fade away in mediocrity.

all those years we all moaned about the mismatches, dimishing and degrating the sport. us proles, wanting more fights! yeah british boxing had a nice little peak, but now it has really plummeted. all the mismatches, all the fights that didn't happen. recession hits, and boxing is first to go. well done, folks. well done tv, well done promoters. i don't want to say "boxing got its comeuppance" because there are honest pros out there making a living and risking their lives. but i understand why ppl are not supporting this sport. a few quid less in my pocket and sky sports was first to go. they helped me with cleverly mismatches and flyweight main events. that was the push.

if khan wins a world title it will be hysterical. he'll have to dump his belt to avoid getting blasted out by ortiz-maidana winner. it will be reet rigmarole. khan, mitchell, and the like will need looking after if they win any belts. froch - despite his style - doesn't need such help as he showed in two classics in genuine world class company.

ironically, froch might do well even if uk boxing snubs him - if he went to the states, fighting perhaps andre ward or allan green, earn the showtime $$ in hard earned fights; or perhaps going to canada for his rival bute, where carl is known for the thriller win over pascal. there are other markets that can be tapped into. if british boxing is a total washout...failing that, forch can fight for spain
