Here's a question...

When was the last time you were genuinely excited about a bill/headliner on Sky's Friday Fight Night programme? It's been so long, I can't even remember one off the top of my head.

It's the other's that transmit the cack.

Cleverly vs 'Insert mismatched opponent' = 1 round, maybe 2 worht of action as 'the main event' is par for the course.

I think we were spoilt when Froch would take on Magee, Dodson, Reid etc on a Friday night compared to that pile of crud.

Stuart Elwell is a solid, honest pro - but why should i pay to see the lad getting his clock cleaned by Kell Brook - week after chuffing week we get this dross served up.

I've lost count of the 'main events' lasting less than 3 minutes by allegedly.

Lets say we had 4 x mismatched fights, each lasting at best 2 rounds = that's 25 minutes of main event action in a MONTH for subscription money.

Fair play to Hennessy he has really put on some cracking fights. Tyson Fury has been solid gold entertainment. The Darren Barker fights, plus the likes of Murray vs McAllister, Elcock vs Macklin, Watson v O'Donnell, Thaxton's euro adventures against Melero etc.

It's a good job for Sky that itv are relaxing the boxing schedules as Hennessy / ITV would make their FFN completely redundant.
To be fair, Maloney's bills haven't been all that either. Edwards, Booth, and Haskins have been involved in some pretty one sided (on paper before the fight and it transpired) main events of late.

Enough said. If you watch a lot of sports (as I do) it's great stuff. Obviously if you only purchase it for the Boxing, you will probably be disappointed. But then again I don't understand why anybody would pay for sky sports and only watch the Boxing. Same with Setanta. I don't feel either operator offered enough for simply Boxing.

Sky Sports sure ain't a rip off, and if you think it is, try getting in to some different sports. Sky's signature sports, Football, Rugby Union and Cricket might not be your bag, but there is both forms of Rugby, Golf, Motor Racing, Speedway and Ice Hockey for diverse tastes.

If you were subscribing to Sky Sports simply for the Boxing, I don't blame you for cancelling. However I do wonder why you even bothered to fork out the dough month after month in the first place.

I mean the way people complain about Sky's Boxing output on here and ESB, you'd think its the only thing they show. Sky Sports offers pretty good value for money, and if you choose not to take full advantage of what you pay for its your own fault really.

I know a lot of people will disagree with my mini-rant but it just rankles me when people always moan and moan about Sky and Murdoch when there is more to the channel than some mostly mediocre Boxing.

You have the choice to say no, No one makes you buy it or part with your cash, all i am trying to get over to you lot is that with out sky many british boxers may never had more forward. Not all fights are going to be the best or world beater, But over all the british title fights are good. Like in oct. i will bring you Booth vs Hunter are next one is Davis vs Napa, Yes some do not live up to what you want but if a fight gets a chance to fight for the title you cant stop him, They work hard and train hard to get to that point of there careers.

But we know they cant play each other every week so i judge sky on the over all package of sport. The same with boxing.

Sky is not a lifeline to boxing in this country. They took a mainstream sport that casual sports fans enjoyed, and hid it away on subscription channels that only hard core fans were prepared to fork out for. If boxing had been on subscription channels when I was growing up in the 80s I wouldn't have got the bug. Boxers were household names before Sky arrived. The only one they can claim to have groomed from the start was Hatton (and I suppose they should some credit for Naz, even though his early fights were on the free Screensport). All their other big names: Eubank, Benn, Calzaghe, Lewis, had established a following on terrestrial TV before Sky poached them.

skys boxing went shite when Setenta came in

sky used to throw in the yank cards as well as FFN.... then setanta bought them

hopefully with them gone.. the US cards price will go down & SS will buy them again

if so i will re-subscribe... the only sport i watch is boxing & now UFC so at the minute it aint worth the money for me

I am afraid it is, If sky pull the plug on British Boxing were would it go, As there no other tv company showing it. You all keep on about Terristrail TV but i do not see ITV or BBC showing much ints. in the sport of Boxing. Whit out Sky we would not see the dev. of young British Boxers coming through And who knows we must see the end of the sport as we know it, Is hard enought now with the way thing are in this country and the same in the USA. Not every fight can be a super star, but with the help of Sky we might find one. Jamie Moores career has be dev. on Sky and his knock on the door of a world tilte. Lewis only had 4 or % fights on terrestrail tv most of his career and big fights were on Sky, Terrestrail tv did not want Lewis we all got on because i did a deal with matchroom to work together with Lewis in the early days.

What people don't seem to understand, is that boxing fans aren't asking for shows stacked with big names and titles every week. We simply want a decent main event, and a couple of competitive fights on the undercard. I can guarantee the majority on here would rather see two fighters ranked, say 15-20 in the country, battle it out over 6 or 8 rounds, or for an area title, than a full card of the usual one sided 'prospect vs journeyman' we get all the time. I understand these fights are an important part of their development, but not as chief support to a rubbish main event which is only justified by the title on the line.

Even worse is when they try and pretend we're watching something we're not, eg Cleverley's last 3 fights.

And with regards to the football analogy, of course we don't expect Man Utd vs Chelsea every week, but when we've paid our money to watch the likes of Stoke vs Hull every week, we don't want to have to pay another 15 quid on top of it on the rare occasion a big game comes around.

I have no interest in golf, rugby, speedway, WWE or cricket. I like football but could live with just MOTD and highlights on SSN. I get SKY for the boxing. Now if I am not going to be delivered boxing then why would I continue my subscription?

Lewis still built a following on terrestrial TV. I think probably all of his fights before Ruddock were on terrestrial.

Then Sky saw the opportunity because the brand/reputation/whatever you want to call it had been built and stepped and showcased the Ruddock fight having let terrestrial do the ground work. They've pulled the same trick with Amir Khan, let ITV build up the national interest because they couldn't be fucked.

You say terrestrial isn't interested in boxing but SKY took it away from them and now have gradually reduced the service to us, it's SKY that removed the choice in the first place.

I don't understand it - by looking to market 'big' fights at £15 PPV they are clearly acknowledging there is a big market there for big fights, but then they do fornicate all to build up the interest in what's coming through bar a bit with the Olympians now.

If they had half a brain they would work with terrestrial, let them show some of the Olympians so the interest is built up again so when they want to charge people £25 for James Degale's WBU 'world' title shot in 2019 people will give a shit.

Anyway, the bottom line is I'm a Sky Sports subscriber of 10 years and I've cancelled because I think Friday Fight Night is mostly sh!t and resent being asked to cough up extra for any mediocre world title fights that come along.

You can argue the pros and cons all day long and put all the spin on it you want but it's a fact this boxing fan has cancelled and judging by this thread many others are too.

That's what Sky should care about I guess?

It`s not just the boxing though, at least not for me.

There is the footy, the Cricket, the rugby League, the rugby Union and the Darts. I watch them all, so there is no way I will cancel it.

They know that there are many people like me who don`t exactly like paying the monthly subscription, but put up with it all the same.

fair enough, but the promoters with the contracts need to put on better fights and better cards.
