However - No gameplan, gets drawn in very easily, picks his punches badly and gets tagged way too much for someone with a glass jaw. An opponent with a tucked up tight defence and big countering punch would give him fits.
Kotelnik is a very technically sound fighter when he gets to the 3rd round onwards he will win this i think.
He was floored by a man with 1 ko win from 10W (Rachid Drilzane) he went the distance with a washed up St Clair.
That said he's been brought along at an even pace and working with Roach can only benefit him so long as he loses his cocky streak and thinks more.
In his defence he is only 22 years old and has now amassed 20-1 fight record with a few reasonable names on there. If he was promoted by Hennessy or Bob Arum, he'd probably be dead now though.
I do think he's exciting, i'll give him that. But it's more to do with his frailties than anything else. But he's defo not PPV material yet.
I'd say he's top 8 at 135lb.
Top 8? I'm rather surprised by that, I don't see how his record bears that out, as he hasn't fought any internationally rated top 10 lightweights yet, unless you count the fiasco against Barrera, a blown up Super Feather who was totally gibbed by the ringside doctor and the referee in my opinion.

As stated, he is very fast and will probably be too fast for Kotelnik on Saturday.
Typical FW marketed fighter, old name fighters, invariably coming up in weight or the usual 2-3 round BS job.
He hasnt really done much at all, not on the domestic or Euro scene. Withdrew from a potential match with Thaxton and by passed Romanov (who I believe would dismantle him).
Still, worth seeing how he looks on Saturday.

Amir Khan is nowhere near world class.
He is a glass jawed joke with fast hands and nothing else.
My trainer who is highly respected in boxing thinks Khan's only good point is his fast hands, he got crap footwork, is amateurish in his ways and has no ringsmarts.
Don't get swept up in the hype machine, he just another fvcking glass jawed hypejob like that waster Bernard Dunne. Same thing, both get smashed and then fight for world titles without earning it.

As much I detest that cocky pudendum Dunne, that just aint true. Dunne does have a glass jaw and my man Munroe would destroy him but he is better than Khan in pure skills and ringsmarts and lets face it he has beaten a top 10 boxer, Khan hasn't come close to that. You just falling for the hype, Khan is the biggest fraud in boxing.

Remains to be seen. His stock seems to have jumped since he got together with Roach, people seem to be thinking 'oh Freddie says he'll be a multi world champ so it must be true and nothing can stop it'. As far as I'm concerned he's not anything until he prove's it, he didn't take on the best in the Isles at lightweight, or in Europe and now has a shot at a title because he beat an old, shot featherwight in a farce that should have been a no contest. We all know he's talented but he's been spoonfed up until now. I myself am not prepared to call him world class before I see what happens against Kotelnik.
I recall Don King saying he'd like a piece of Khan, considering that it's the wba he's been given a shot at, from nowhere and in a division in which he has no pedigree, I wonder if King got that piece.
Credit to Khan personally for taking the fight though, it is a huge step up in class for him.

Kotelnik is going to blast Khan into Bolivian. We'll get to see Khan's 'World Class Vulnerabilities' in action (and no, it still doesn't make sense), and it will be spectacular! Can't wait for Frank to turn green, McGuigan or equivalent to stutter uncontrollably, caught between whether to mention Khan has no future or praise Kotelnik for being an 'Underrated puncher', can't wait to win my money, can't wait for the whole cynical, con-the-public fraud machine to be derailed. Just can't wait.
And no I'm not a racist.

Anyone know who the ref is yet? Bring over Steve Smoger, I say. At least when a fight's stopped, we know the right man's won!

Khan, 22, said: "I could win three world titles, but I can pull off four. I love taking risks."

Except Dunne goes on to win a world title belt, off the floor in one of the fights of the year. Not bad for a glass jawed hype job.
We're going to find out all about Khan's "world class" credentials very soon, though no doubt if he wins, there will be the usual bollox about how Kotelnik was a bum and a pretender.
I'd say Khan is world class, though obviously that chin can let him down at any moment - he's fast as hell, looks to have a very decent dig in either hand, and has got a real fighting heart - I don't think we'll ever see him quit, like Ortiz for example. And with the canny Roach behind him, he might prove smart enough to beat this guy. I think he'll get knocked over on Sat night, but get the feeling he'll come back to win.

The etc is - he is a young ambtious muscualr fit determined well conditoned athelte with decent power (he did blow away former world title challenger Graham Earl remeber)
But the whole point of this thread was to look beyond the obvious like has he got................
The ring smarts, etc - to be a proper world class fighter
It seems there are alot of people here who think he has not got it - and is just a hype job

If I had to think of a fighter to compare Khan to, it'd be someone like Augie Sanchez.
Sanchez was a red hot prospect, excellent amateur, exciting to watch, good speed and power. The kind of guy who was good enough to win a world title, and on his day if everything went his way, could have probably beaten anyone in his division (ie he gave Naz a few scary moments before Naz got to him in the 4th).
But he was also pretty flawed defensively and had a china chin. I have a feeling Khan's career will go the same way as Sanchez, some good wins, several edge of the seat fights packed with excitement, but it will ultimately end in disaster. I just hope he gets out with his health intact and makes good money while he's in the spotlight because I feel, like Sanchez, he wont be boxing til an old age.

I think Khan is in over his head this weekend
Kotelnik has operated on a higher level and is more experienced
Khan will be in tip top shape - but I just dont feel he is good enough
A one sided beat down the strecth for Kotlenik...........................

Another example of a super talented fighter with no chin was errol christie,he would go over from any kind of punch that landed square, and i think the same will happen to khan,it won't take a big puncher to ko him, just an accurate one.

i think it would have been useful if he'd fought a solid pressure fighter before this fight. you know, as a preparation for the toughest night of his life. perhaps someone like mohammed abdullaev - i.e slow but strong. but obviously anything like that is too much risk in case the chin gets cracked (might as well get it cracked by champ than contender); and the title shot did come suddenly.
so anyway khan has confidence from the MAB fight, he has raw talent and good sparring. but when push comes to shove, when it really matters, does he have the substance, does he have the toughness, the temperament. believe yooouu meeee we might found out on saurday
