Terrible shame this is!! I rate Maklin an I rate Barker it would have been a fantastic fight!!! Be interesting to see now what they do with Barker?? They could easily get him into a mandatory for the European title in his next fight then if Maklin and Hatton dodge him then you'll know for sure whats going on!! I know Maklin is well up for fighting Barker to be fair to him though!! Maklin would fight anyone.. I still think it's a stupid move leaving FW though..He'd have had a world title fights within the next 2 fights..

I hope Barker goes on to good things too he's a class fighter.. :TU:

White Flag from Macklin then?

Massive payday so the only reason can be he doesn't fancy the job.

So much for being British Champion then!

I think his ppl want to move him up in class quickly for European and world opportunities, and don't want to keep him at British level rest of his career.

If he gets a European title, it's better than having a British title. And if he is commanding at EBU level, then that likely has ramifications on the world scene.

no it isn't end of. ok we've established hatton needs to promote main events. but have you also considered that macklin may not want to remain a domestic fighter? put it this way, he knocked out a good fighter quicker than arthur abraham did and ppl around him may feel he was world class potential in a division whose champions are starting to desert. it was always a fight barker and hennessy wanted more than the other side.

Macklin was apparently desperate to fight Barker. He would also get £60,000. In latest WBC rankings, Barker is No 24, Askainen is No 27.

The only reason this isn't going on is because Hatton lost the purse bid and are desperate for a TV top of the bill.

Sorry to sound thick, but can someone confirm this-

If the fight has gone to purse bids, and Henessey has won, won't it still be going ahead as a Henessey promoted fight? If so, when?

Or can Macklin simply pull out without losing his title?

Macklin will be dropping the title to fight for the European if all these rumours are true.
Barker will fight for the vacant title, on a Hennessey bill, against ..... ?

i said it a while ago.... im sure FW & Hennessey have merged a little cartel to get rid of Hatton/Haye/Calzaghe promo's

allowing there lads to fight each others bills & stumping up fat cash to win all the decent purse bids

if they are not... then they should from a business perspective... cause it would work

For me to say Macklin is running is wrong, I was just a bit frustrated this fight looks to be not going ahead.
I do rate Macklin highly domestically but I really think Barker is on a different class level above Macklin.
Barker in my opinion would outbox him all night.

Interesting theory that, Sweet.
Worth monitoring as the purse bids arise.

it is likely a big reason. however i'm not so sure that macklin is as much a traditionalist as barker i.e. clean up domestically before moving on. while barker has been looking at macklin, macklin and macklin, i won't give examples but i don't reckon macklin and those around him were thinking get me barker, get me barker, get me barker. yes the fight will have had appeal, and hatton may have wanted to promote it badly, but i doubt barker was the be all and end all for macklin.

barker is on the up, asikainen is on the way down after completely folding vs small but tough khoren gevor. the scandinavian has a worn out look about him and i believe he could fall apart under macklin's pressure. if there is little difference between barker and asikainen in the rankings then the risk/reward could be better for knocking out asikainen. if hatton's promoting, the fight will fill up a TV date and macklin will be close to some european glory, rather than remaining at domestic level for a fight that is high risk for just the British and Commonwealth.

Don't be so sure.
Together a good powerbase.
And how sad if Macklin v Barker doesn't happen
if matt believes in his own ability, he should tell Hattons where to get off
it is his career and beating Barker means a lot more than beating some unknown Finn.
If this is all true, it is a sad start to the promotional game by hattons

Does the info about Wazza approaching Meaty Mick for Witter to face Khan reinforce Sweetscience's theory ?

So who do people think Barker should fight next if this is all correct? Not too much about domestically for him without dropping down a level, Murray probably isn't ready, Smith has moved up, Elcock lost to Macklin and he's already beaten McDermott and Bendall. Wouldn't mind Quigley dropping down to middle and that fight happening although I know this isn't likely.

How about someone like Gevor who beat Asikainen? How good is Geale? That would be a top class commonwealth title fight. Or is Barker in no way ready for guys like this and my head is in the clouds?

Think they may look to a past it name, like Jantuah who has been linked in the past.

and I love the Mick and Frank coalition idea. That would make a great sitcom. They could share a bed like Ernie and Eric???
