So now we know.
All we need now are the official attendance figures, then we can do the maths.
If you are so good at maths why don't you help Ryan Rhodes count his earnings of late, shouldn't take too long should it? By the way has his Manager come round yet?

What a w*nker you are!!
I could write something here and now about Rhodes and a certain ****!! who has been involved in his career but there again he is the sort of chap who loves to write and spout what he wants but then gets the lawyers out when people bite back !! - so naturally with bullies like that they have to remain nameless!!!

With respect to the earlier poster, who may well be better informed than me, I have to ask if it honestly takes weeks or months to get PPV figures in for a UK based boxing PPV show ? I don't mean exact figures, I mean ballpark figures, eg, Khan vs Kotelnik did 30,000, or half a million, or whatever.
I accept it might take a while to establish the precise figure, but in this age, surely they know with 48 hours, if not by the time the show went live on air ?
UK cinema takings for each and every weekend of the year are known first thing the following Monday morning, just hours after the final showings on a Sunday night. This is some feat, because the total amount comes from a multitude of different strands - you have various competing multiplex cinema chains, independent cinemas, advance screenings, preview screenings, discounted screenings etc, not to mention the complication of some audience members seeing films via monthly passes or free passes, rather than paying for tickets for a particular film. Despite all these different revenue strands, the precise UK box office takings are known every single Monday morning without fail, to an accuracy of over 99%.
Sky Box Office produces and promotes these live boxing shows, so surely it will known the number of buyers at the point the show starts its live broadcast ? The systems will be automated. Fair enough, there might be some ancillary markets (eg, non-Sky subscriber customers) that report back a bit later, but Sky have been selling PPV events for a long time now, they'll know very quickly indeed what the overall sales figures for these events look like.
I appreciate it might take weeks or months to whittle it down to the final PPV buy rate, but the context of this thread is that an overall UK buy rate of around 30,000 for Khan vs Kotelnik is very bad. I suppose in the coming weeks we'll find out if that figure is accurate or note.
My opinion for what its worth is that the figure sucks. Fifteen quid x 30,000 adds up to £450,000. Whatever the split between Sky and the promoter, it must be a lot less than both were anticipating

With PPV figures such as this fight got - I think its plain as day this fight should have been on regular Sky Sports.

Theres just not enough big names about for Khan to generate enthusiasm in the casual armchair boxing fan .. he is seen by most people as another Audley Harrison. Maybe that is very unfair, because Khan has real heart to go with obvious skills. But I honestly believe the damage has already been done, most remember his one sided mis-matches, his trash talk .. and his humiliating defeat

.. if only a tiny fraction of the UK population have only seen his latest win, that means an even smaller number of people will recognize the guy he beat.
And if this fight is really coming off ... as good as maidana`s latest win was, the general public will be just as uninterested
Khan-Maidana in October?
By Lee Bates
A source out of Argentina is stating that a bout between newly crowned WBA super lightweight champion Amir Khan (21-1, 15 KOs) and WBA interim super light weight champion Marcos Maidana (26-1, 25 KOs) could be in the works for October in England. Both fighters are coming off of career best wins. Khan won the WBA super lightweight title by unanimous decision over Adreas Kotelnik last weekend while Maidana won his interim title by impressively stopping Victor Ortiz in 5 rounds last month

I'll be surprised if the source is genuine. Why would they take on such a tough hombre for the 1st defense? Khan can get in an easy defense over the undeserved but somehow (Bob Arum) ranked Salita for probably not much less than Maidana would bring in. Props to them if they take the fight but i don't see it happening.

The Klits will get what's coming to them in due time. If that article is true it looks like Booth and Haye have been abit naive when estimating UK PPV revenue, but if Haye beats Valuev giving him a belt and an enhanced reputation to bring to the negotiating table then Haye should be able to get the £££££££'s he wants for the Klit fight. I've got no doubts the fight(s) will happen after Valuev gets KTFO!

On Haye - it's obvious he's just not a big draw. He's virtually unheard of in the mainstream. Personally I put this down to inactivity. IF the valuev fight comes off in November it will be his 5th fight in 3 years. He can trash talk all he likes but he'll never build up any kind of saleable mainstream profile. Which is a shame, cause he's potentially very good value for money.
On Khan - it's obvious it's done rubbish numbers. But that's what happens when you set a novice up as a PPV draw, it also illustrates the power of the magic zero on your record these days. I know lads who used to go see Khan fight no marks, as soon as he lost they haven't been near him again. Who wants to shell out money to watch a clearly busted flush? It's not like football where what is essentially brand loyalty keeps punters coming back to watch dross. As soon as people feel like they're being ripped off they bugger off and don't come back. That's why Khan had to be manouevered so quickly into a title. As it turns out it was a gamble that probably hasn't paid off. I imagine Khan is Warren (and Sky's) biggest headache ever.

Dear oh dear those PPV figures are awful. And the MEN that used to be packed for Ricky Hattons Bum of the Month Club only having 6000 sat in it? Not very surprising though - Khans last 3 fights have been awful - imagine repeatedly shelling out for first a 51 second kayo loss, then an Irish bum who collapses in no time, then a fight that ends on a cut from a headbutt? How many people can be arsed paying for this crap really?
People are bored of this circus & importing the weakest beltholder to giftwrap Amir a title obviously didn't con the public as much as certain people might have hoped for. Boxing needs rubbish like this to fail, and it did. We win.

Good post and totally aggree. Warren will be losing a lot of money on Khan but I feel he needs to hold onto him as a bargaining chip for TV execs and TV deals, as this will in turn give him breathing space when he tries building up he next "Superstar" ie 1 of the olympians that will have good mainstream appeal.

surely it will just drag out. if you can PPV him for cut farces, 60 second KO loss and beating up an itrish slugger who seemed to break his own leg...it will go on now he has a world title. amir did enough to get the win. but it certainly wasn't sensational, despite some mid fight flair such as body shots. the sensational thing was a) that he won, b) that he beat a bigger man, and c) that he didn't get dropped or stopped.
i give him credit for the win, but it wasn't superstar stuff.
just because he has a world title to go with his medal, allows the cash cow to carry on. i wonder how much simply winning the title has added to him as an attraction.
just about everyone knows the name khan. but what can he do to become a legit superstar?

A big reason why Haye is so inactive is because he is chasing big fights and big fights are hard to come by, esp as his promotional outfit are inexperienced and are struggling.
FW keeps his fighters busy, usually at a lower standard but it keeps their profile high and gives them the opportunity to showcase what they have learnt in the gym. Then they too get a big fight every couple of years.
It just again highlights what this murky business is like, good fighters chasing big fights(Froch inc) are usually left inactive on the sidelines, or forced to take chump change instead

As far as Khan's next opponent goes, I heard Freddie Roach saying in an interview yesterday he's trying to get Salita for the Pacquiao/Cotto undercard.
He says the big PPV undercards aren't value for money these days and Khan is on record as saying he wants to fight in the States so...

If Haye wa with Warren I dont think he would be undisputed crusierweight champ in 22 fights, but i do think he would be a household name and selling out big London venues and probably a couple more million in the bank
All conjecture though

He surfaces again !
On behalf of a few on here, I'll ask the question again, in the vain hope of an answer.
What was the official attendance ?
What's the official PPV buys ?
Stick to the thread.
If you've no answer, or prefer not to say, stop throwing shite elsewhere.
To give it, you have to take it.
