I think I agree with most here in saying that Hatton's punch resistance has gone. He would never have beaten Pacquiao IMO but he would have made him work for it a few years ago. For me the Lazcano fight showed his regression. I never rated Malignaggi and although Ricky performed well against him I think he was never really going to be seriously tested in that fight.
I wouldn't have put Khan within miles of Hatton a couple of years ago but now I think he stops him.

Me either. He walked through some really enormous shots against Tszyu.
Whilst Pacman is a quicker handed fighter, I think Hatton would have been able to take those shots a lot better 4-5 years ago.
Neither Mayweather or Pacquaio have looked quite as destructive against other world class opposition, which leads one to believe that Hatton's whiskers aren't too great these days.

Urango, Collazo and Malignaggi were not over the hill, so don't make his championship reign seem more cynical than it was.
No but he did look poor in 2 of those
He looked poor against Maussa too. Very easy to hit, and very predictable.
He's not looked great in any fight I can think of since Tszyu.

He looked alright against Castillo but still held far too much.

Left a helluva lot in the ring, that night with Zoo. Never been the same since. Lazcano buzzing him should have set the alarm bells off. The Preacher knew the score imo.

No he isn't shot, he's past his prime but certainly not shot, just because you get buzzed by a decent contender and ko'd by a great KO artist who lands all of his best shots time and again does not make you shot, it means you have a shoddy defense and you should have paid more attention to Mr Mayweather in boxing class. Tell me was he shot when he was getting buzzed by Phillips and Tackie? I thought not

Exactly, just basic boxing was used to beat Malignaggi. PM gets some undeserved reputation because of the way he performed against Cotto but we all know he was basically fighting a corpse that night because Cotto was weight drained and not surprisingly moved up in weight after that.
I like Malignaggi, and I think he should be given a lot of credit for his bravery, regardless of Cotto's weight problems. He fought with a broken jaw against a very tough opponent and kept on coming despite the horrific injury. Did you see his face at the end!?!
Anyway back to the point. Malignaggi completely outboxed Hatton in the first round and if he had the steel to continue would've won a wide UD. I know it's impossible to say but that was my gut feeling after the first round. The fact that Hatton couldn't put away a light puncher with one healthy hand said it all for me, and I never believed all the crap about how this fight showed he was back to his best!

Agreed. Tszyu was a genuine "one-punch can cange a fight" guy. People who say Hatton isn't shot - Paquiao took
nine rounds to get rid of David Diaz - a fighter Hatton in his pomp is far superior to IMO.

Juan Diaz ( lightweight)and JMM Superfeather really - took a lot of shots from Pacman and took them ( until Diaz was ko) all night.
Hatton was CRUSHED like the overrated slugger he is!

Very interesting read that Terry. It was also interesting to look at the picture of him on the scales for Floyd. I thought for the Malignaggi and Pacquiao fights he looked terrible on the scales, physically drawn. He looked ill as opposed to in peak condition, which he looked to be in for Floyd.

None of them took the type of hayemakers Hatton was taking though, Pacman couldnt load up against them like he could against Hatton

He looked rough, why not retire and enjoy his life? In retrospect I think the Collazo fight took a lot out of him, that was the beginning of the end.
I think the 18 months he wasted before climbing the mountain against Kostya Tszyu was the beginning of the end.
He peaked physically before during that period as reflected in his extraordinary resiliance versus Kostya.
If only he'd been fighting Harris, Spadafora, Witter, Gatti etc during that period instead of the B/C players he was. His resume would be much thicker and he'd have won all of those fights.
Once he reached the mountain top versus Tsyzu he's been on the way down, there have been some peaks and troughs in the downward slope, but its been downward all the same.

Marquez was floored 3 times v`s Paq but was skilled enough to get on his jab...when Diaz started gertting caught flush...he went.
Hatton may well of been an overrated slugger.......but Witter is forever in his shadow.

It was David Diaz that Manny fought, not Juan.
Juan fought JMM last

Rhino - I think you and others are being a tadge harsh!!!
Whilst I acknowledge Hatton fought Tzsyu at the right time - surely thats what boxing is all about - its very rare we see fighters fighting each other when they are in their prime at world level.
Hatton has achieved a tremendous amount for British Boxing - regardless of what we say regarding the quality of his opponents - whilst I agree with many of the comments concerning the opponents he fought in recent times - on the other side of the fence if we went into the titles argument he won a fair few - in addition he had Joe Public knowing him and lets face it there are not many boxers that the public know - for instance at this stage I wonder how many people know Carl Froch and David Haye - the boxers they know will be Hatton & Khan.
Its really confusing this debate on this thread - on one hand if you really analyse Hatton's recent opponents outside of Mayweather and Pacman you can find fault - on the other hand what boxer has had thousands of people travelling half way around the world to see him fight and he has done a lot for the sport by the very virtue by being called Ricky Hatton - its got people talking about boxing.
