thanks, i said he wanted to avoid getting KO'd i.e. that very negative loss when thrown in with the artist formerly known as "judder."

one thing about witter, what does he offer to the boxing fan? on other threads I've got into how Khan winning isn't necessarily the most riveting thing in the sport. but on the basis of the kotelnik fight, he at least can get the job done, and show a bit of style in spurts.

even on peak form witter was steaing rounds, operating behind bizarre fencing stances, not punching enough and perhaps not applying his agility to its full potential. witter may not have had loads of great opportunities, but last night WAS an opportunity - did he take full advantage of it? he also had an opportunity vs judah and despite being thrown in too early, he perhaps could have made a more positive impression.

any truth that he's weight drained and should have moved up to welter by now?

if mcclosky can win the euro then he will probably accomodate witter.When you dont want it anymore like witter boxings the worst sport to be in.

He should retire nowhere else to go from here hope he does no need to fight on

I think Khan would have KO'd him as well he doesnt have it anymore should retire imo

back to the bums after that one then.

or an olympic medallist.

Plenty of paydays left because he has a very good CV (well, relatively) is a former world champ, never been stopped (apart from this when he quit) and...the most important factor...many people will think he's well beatable now. So a good scalp for prospects/current champs.

In fairness Witter can potentially become a gatekeeper type now, ex world champion, not that active, decent puncher and test, if you can box well avoid hayemakes you'll win. Never going to be fan friendly but a good learning experience type for top prospects

Each to their own. I think Hatton is as shot as Witter, if not more. Both should retire but only one of them will look back on their career with a sense of achievement, and its not Witter!

Can't see Witter getting much work as a gatekeeper, would've thought he'd burnt his bridges with US TV entirely now.

Of course, there's plenty of room for an aging, unorthadox, dangerous spoiler with nothing to lose on the brit scene...

Yes, it's unlikely he will get another chance as a "left hand collumn" fighter...

But as an "opponent" he is more of a draw than ever. Just the three words "Former World Champion" are an asset.

Witter was already on the slide in 2005, maybe even before that. It was just noticeable in 05 because he stepped his competition up.

He has been fading drastically in the second half of fights for a long time now. I always viewed him as a 5 or 6 round fighter effort wise.

I went for Alexander by a late TKO in the prediction league cause I figured Witter at 35, after the Bradley loss, he would fade even worse than ever over the stretch and young ambitious fighter like Alexander would get to him sooner or later.

No one could have predicted just up and quitting however.

After being stopped like this I have a funny feeling he could be in the other corner for the Hatton swansong!! I know people would still like to see it!! Hatton Vs Witter @ City of Manchester stadium!!

never seen you say a bad word about anyone on here, tony - until now. i suppose it's ok to dismiss hatton with him being a rival promoter to FW. hatton saying the khan fight only happens with FW not involved. (i'm not disagreeing about hatton's greed, though.)

thought it was regular to be driven by money i.e. gary lockett admitting to boxing monthly why his pro career had been so lacking in glory: i.e. fighting for fake fringe belts because it helped him buy property for his to let business. lockett was promoted by FW, no?

last few years we have come to expect no less, really. macca in it "for glory not money" yet holds WBU strap and defends WBO version vs gunn and azzaoui. though now we are told by Boxingchat that it's the fighters' fault, not the promoter's.

If Hatton and Witter fight now Hatton wins his 2 loses have come against the 2 greatest fighters at the time whereas Junior fought a relativly unexpierenced fighter and quit I see Hatton KO'ing him in the mid rounds also Khan beats Witter UD

i have never been a fan opf wittert, but he is good enough to have earnt some decent wedge, but never did. i would like to see him get a few paydays before packing it in, but his style doesn't make him easy to look good against, and i dont know how many prospects will fancy fighting him.

Witter was beaten by a Don King fighter on a DK bill with DK paying them!
Witter hasnt had a decent payday in years and pulls out between the rounds.

How do you all know what Witter got paid? Is it published?

i've not seen the fight yet but he stated he didnt want to drop down to euro level and i think that would be the last chance for witter at title level

im unhappy to say retirement looms :(

The reality is that he really didn't look very good. He had only had one warm up fight, against a nobody, since the loss to Bradley. Perhaps , looking back, they should have focused on some more competative fights rather than aiming to bounce straight back for the a world belt.

Clearly he has a strong punch, and can knock out weaker opponents.

Which is why I think Hatton-Witter is more likely than Khan-Hatton or Khan-Witter! Ricky has stated he would have to be the Promoter for a fight with Khan to happen & there's no way allegedly will allow that to happen!

I think Hatton-Witter has a moved a step closer to happening!

No chance hatton still wouldn't want to give junior a pay day and box office and american tv if they wanted to show hatton wouldn't be interested in it.
