its ridiculous,if the fighters said fvck off were not paying any more fees then the belt would be scrapped, its the same with all these interim, super, youth etc titles,i can understand that a belt of some kind might make fights more appealing to promoters and tv,but the elite level fighters could just refuse to fight for them then the problem would be solved

Does this mean there could be a belt for each given pound apart from the weight limit?

Welterweight, limit 147lbs Light-Middle 154lbs, therefore........

Catchweight belts given for fights contested at 148, 149, 150, 151, 152, 153! Who would bother to make weight anymore?

Imagine Fighter A can't make weight to defend his Middleweight title, Fighter B agrees and they scrap the 160lb belt and fight for a catchweight title insted, traditional weight limits become a thing of the past.

Every heavyweight bout would also be for a catchweight belt, when was the last time two heavyweights weighed in at similar weights? Take Valuev for example, no one weighs as much as he does, maybe the Haye bout will be for a catchweight belt?

I wonder when the WBC will start awarding catchweight belts in 1/4 pound increments? With super and interim belts too of course!

Why not award a belt for the boxer with the longest toenails for example, or most pubic hair, largest entourage, flariest nostrils, whether cirumcised or not, etc. The list is endless!

Its madness!

So who exactly is going to fight for this belt? And has Sulaiman said how much the sanctioning fee is? And does anyone else suspect he's had a new set of teeth and a couple of facelifts thanks to these sanctioning fees?

How would they defend such a belt?

What if say, Froch and Hopkins fought at 172lb for it...

Then Pascal and Pavlik then fought at 170lb...

Would they both get a shiny gay belt ?

Or would the winner of one catchweight fight then have to fight the winner of another catchweight fight ?

What if the agreed weights for the above varied?

I cant see how it would fit and certainly cannot see how it would slip into the ranking system. It would basically mean it is purely a hypothetical title akin to the ring title... except for catchweights !

CRAZY
It's not a title to be defended, it's more of a trophy to go to the winner of catchweight fights without any major belt attached. At least that's how it reads to me.

And all this free to the fighters, promoters and TV companies no doubt, from one of the great philanthropists of our time...

I think "humble servant of boxing" is how he describes himself.

Just a fad and money grab? Or does it actually mean something in Muay Thai circles?
I'm not sure. I don't really follow Muay Thai, but I do remember the news of the WBC getting involved was positively greeted at the time. I don't know how well it's worked out.
