Schaefer, "I don't think it would be good for Williams to go back down to 147 (for eg Mosley)." Yeah, of course, it would be better for Williams to fvck his career up vs a light heavyweight.

I think the days of, "fight a GBP fighter, get on HBO" are over. GBP grandfathers can't contribute anything to the sport; they can only cash out for themselves. GBP need a young marketable guy who can headline otherwise surely their relationship with HBO - boxing's biggest paymaster - will change for the worst.
Like Ortiz? Oh, I forgot, they already chucked him in to deep. They need to develop some boxers like the Bobfather.
yeah they need to get the Ortiz stuff right, rather than banking on using old names to headline.

jamesmcdonnell wrote:I mean seriously. Williams fight at 175, when he at 147 18 months ago, that's just ludicrous. He's a good fighter, but no way is this a fair matchup. Hopkins would absolutely marmalise him, too mean, too experienced and way too strong.

Williams should tell them to go poke it.
hopkins could go on forever, this way.

at light heavy, fight as many middleweights as you can.

get a bit older, start fighting welters/light middles at light heavy.

in 3 years time hopkins can go up to cruiser and fight light welterweights.

it's ludicrous and they need to have done with this catchweight bollocks. if hopkins can't fight ppl his own size - if the dawson fight doesn't happen - then please just close the book on him. it would help if HBO would stop putting up the money that GBP rely on.

The trouble for Williams if he declines a bout with Hopkins is that he doesn't have that many options as to whom he fights! The list of guys who want to face Williams is getting shorter - he is clearly an avoided fighter!

It has been mentioned that maybe Pavlik can no onger make 160lbs, well if that's the case, the longer he's inactive the more chance there is of him definitely not making 160lbs anymore!

Williams is at or near his peak, is young, so his career should all be about capitalising on the moment, not stalling or waiting around! Paul is simply not active enough. Granted, its not his fault but he's needs to be more active! I hope he's out in October!

How about Williams v Dzinziruk for the WBO title. Williams is the top WBO contender, he could do with a belt, and Dzinziruk has allegedly left his German promoters & is US bound. This was the fight Williams was eyeing, before Pavlik was offered.

Well, I'd take Williams over anyone at 160. Pavlik, Sturm etc. This is not a crazy assumption.

At 154, I'd also take him to beat anybody (although some JAMIE MOORE fans think he could beat williams :D ) Surely you agree with me here.

At 147, I think Floyd would beat him but I think Williams would beat everyone else at that weight. Again, not a crazy assumption.

At 168, things get tougher. You'd have to see how Williams travels up in weight but he is effective at 160 so I'd fancy him to get the job done against the lower level 168 pounders with ease. Ward, Miranda, Bika, Bute... all wins for Williams. I also don't rate Kessler that much and think Williams would beat him (Kessler has done nothing other than lose a close fight to Calzaghe in my view and is unproven, as is Williams at the weight but given the styles I'd take Williams). As much as I like Froch, he would take a hiding from Williams. Taylor might give Williams a tough fight, but I could see Williams winning. Abraham would simply be outclassed.

I don't know about 175. He might win and lose some matches up there. But I'd take him over an old B-Hop for sure. Too much activity, he'd wear B-Hop down and win easily on points at this stage imo.
yeah right . you hold too much faith . i think williams loses to almost every fighter you mentioned above
