..... Furthermore, a lot of boxing news hits this forum before it reaches the media .....
They probably do , but i doubt its to learn anything that is'nt old gossip around the gym's ,its more to do with reading and posting , just like they pick up the news of the world or boxing monthly to read stuff they already know
On the contrary, numerous boxers/managers have come across news being discussed on the boxrec forums of which they had no knowledge of. This is through my personal experience of speaking to various boxers/managers.
News tends to be leaked here through a wide range of sources and the forum is better for it.

I think there is an automatic sign in function... so if you tick this, you will not need to sign in all the time.

Whilst I appreciate "Shep" and his team may want more traffic/hits on here - I personally think it is completely correct move to have to sign it to gain access to this forum.
There are at times some top quality threads on here - and also there are some excellent "rucks" and "banter" too - the correct word that should be used is "quality" and personally I think boxrec beats any other forum easily on that score.

Why are Ireland & Britain lumped together?
They're 2 separate nations entirely.

How much more separate can you get?

Legally Northern Ireland is a part of Great Britain.
Furthermore Eire has many historical, sporting and cultural links.

Closely linked nations. Better to maintain a relationship, than to breed a thought of separation. Many of us Brits have Irish heritage.
