How can he be mandatory when he's never beaten anybody of any consequence and Maidana holds the stupid interim belt anyway? I don't think Boxrec even rate Salita in their top 10 or 20??
Its all crooked shenanigans anyway, exactly the type of crap you'd expect from the WBA who've forced John Ruiz upon a repulsed boxing public for 9 yrs, and Warren who brought us Calzaghes WBO 10 year Reign Of Feaces.

That's boxing for you but as I remember Salita was supposed to fight the winner of Rees-Kotelnik but then Kotelnik fights Kimura and Maidana and then ends up fighting Khan. Salita is angry at the situation apparently so somebody high up must have promised him a mandatory shot.
For what it's worth though I think Salita is very ordinary and don't expect him to last more than 3 rounds with Khan.

Warren will sell it and sell it well in my opinion.
Salita is 30-0 with 16 ko's. The general football or sports fan will lap it up. Sky will present him as an udefeated yank dangerman.
Its the right fight for Khan. What a job Warren has done for him. Fantastic.
Yes I suppose from a purely hype point of view there is a fair bit to go at:
- UK vs USA angle
- the 'human interest' story of Salita's Jewish heritage (harking back to Benny Leonard and the great Jewish fighters of old)
- the unbeaten slate
etc etc
Still, for anyone who follows the sport it is a $hitty excuse of a fight and certainly not one worth anything like PPV money.
Mandatory or not, Salita is slow of both hand and foot with mechanical, forced, punching technique and little in the way of genuine power. His padded record just reinforces to me that he is a sham mandatory.
I know boxing promoters have to regularly make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but I just can't get excited about a match like this.
I won't be buying tickets or the PPV, that is for sure!

Surely Murray vs Kahn would be easier to sell than Kahn vs Salita?
After all it doesn't seem to matter to the WBA who the manditory challanger is. I think this story of Kahn has been awfull since the start and now it's led to the noncence of the Olympians. I think Warren is tricking Kahn into thinking that he's the next best thing when he knows he's just an easy money maker, same as the Olympians.
Warren don't care if he don't make much money from Khan yet, he will in his future bouts and he's surely making more money from him on PPV then on Friday Fight nights?
It's a pity because I like many of Warrens fighters, because if I didn't then I would never waste money on PPV's.

you not looking ar the big picture, calzaghes career was held back by him fighting on american telly against a guy who just came to spoil. Think how much hype khan will generate smashing up an undefeated american on american tv (regardless of his quality), that will lead to the best fights down the road.
If you think that the olympic champions areant of a high caliber then you need to watch a bit more boxing.

Khan's got to work towards being a crossover star now. Domestic fights won't help that. If Murray builds up his name to make it a massive fight here, then great, but right now people don't know about Murray.

But they know about Salita? Lol.
How about fighting championship calibre fighters? Or would that make for a short reign?
Anyone who buys this fight is a moron who deserves to be fleeced.

I don't doubt the calliber of the Olympians and yes I do watch loads of boxing, my girlfriend would say that I watch too much
Having seen much boxing I can say that all British fights with 2 boxers nearing their peak is more of a spectable than 2 over hyped, over televised and over paid boxers. Especially as Salita is so boring to watch at least with Murray you know that he will make the fight entertaining and isn't it that the lack of entertainment in boxing at the moment the reason why people aren't watching boxing as much anymore?
Anyway why should so many Olympians get soo much tv exposure and leave out more entertaining boxers. I pretty much like all of the recent Olympians that have gone pro recently and have no problem them being on tv but if it's to cut out title fights it shouldn't be alowed

I deal was being discussed with Salita when Mbaye was WBA champion. Even after Mbaye's struggle with Baulbi (thats when it was being discussed) Salita's manager was honest on a boxing forum to suggest that Mbaye would probably be too good.
Wanted a piece of Gavin Rees though.

fair comment about the title fights, but they're usually fighting on the undercards of khans fights or british title fights, and they sell alot of the tickets.

lmfao
but, like Banjo said, that's boxing.
Which is why Boxing is just a pathetic farce these days, and no doubt, a Mugs game.

frochs a muppet, he says he didnt even watch the last fight, so how can he make a comment off what he heard from his mate down the pub.
"Khan isnt as good as he thinks he is", "theres chinks in the armour" -3 words POT, KETTLE, BLACK. The only reason to watch a froch fight is to wait for him to get his arse handed to him sooner rather than later with the super 6 tourney coming up.
