I've said it before but I think when there are no judges involved, 3 respected boxing journalists should score the fight like what used to happen in the 30's/40's.

I thought Terry O'Connor did a good job reffing the fight, he was fast to break them, seen the niggly elbows and did well to control the situation when McDermott went for the headbutt at the end of the round. However I cannot support him on his scoring which was an absolute disgrace and hopefully the BBBC will call an inquest into this for the good of the sport!

DG - I believe something should be done about the disgraceful decision on Friday night - however "The Witch Hunt" against O'connor on this forum is not the way forward - the regulations and the enforcement of those regulations etc etc is up to the BBBofC - enough said.

Fully agree, his refereeing of the fight was not in question so why ban him? the BBBofC should take a look at his capability of judging a fight. Half the morons on here making there mouths go want him band from reffing a fight ever again when he did a perfectly good job of doing that on Friday.

I'm sorry but these petitions are stupid, this is almost as bad as the "let's get boxing back on the BBC" petition.

We can sign all these petitions, McDermott and Maloney can scream until they're blue in the face but all you're going to get from the BBB of C is them to order a rematch at best. The result will still stand just like the result of Lewis-Holyfield I still stands and O'Connor will still be reffing(which there is nothing wrong with by the way) and judging fights.

Probably the only good thing about it is that kicking up a such stink will ensure a rematch is ordered

We all know the BBB of No Control won;t do eff all. If they did then these sort of things would not happen so often.

I gace Tyson fury 2 rounds and they were quite close.

Maybe Oconnor read the piece in BM about the Furys!

Tyson did his best and after so few fights he did well to even last the course, but he lost.. widely.

He did a good job as a ref, but i want to know hw he justified the scorecard, he is a good ref, but his judging o the night was amazing.

No need for a ban, just a rematch and a new ref.

I watched the fight again last night.

There is no doubt that the scoring was way way off, but I can see how the ref scored the work that Fury was doing.

If he had given a draw, it would not have shocked me to be honest. However 98 - 92 is simply wrong. Wtahc the fight again with the sound off and I don`t think one can state that it was a landslide for McDermott.

The commentary is often an obstructive factor. Take the Murray fight against Lawton. The commentators were making out that Murray was shot, gassed out and in trouble. The reality is that he whipped Lawton good style and was in control the whole fight.

Its the system thats bollock`d. He isnt a bad ref but his judgement from an outsiders prospective was poor.

Malony should shut his jumped up little mouth, he gets right on my Walters.

I think people should look at the archives on here that question his abilities as a ref (not judge, but as a ref). He's not exactly the worlds greatest ref.

Sorry but part of the job of a ref is to judge, so while he may have controlled the fight well, he still failed badly in one of his jobs as referee. Maybe the system of ref's judging fights has to be looked at but something has to be done here. I don't like the idea of a witch hunt against O'connor, in the same way I wouldn't like people to conduct a witch hunt against me if I mucked up badly at my work. What I would expect is some sort of disciplinary action though, so nobody can really complain if O'connor is demoted or suspended for a short while.

The saddest thing about the event is that everyone has seen that Fury is not the prospect some people have hyped him up to be. If he really possessed the talent of a future world level boxer, he should have had Mcdermott put away inside 6 rounds.

I can think of a few that are worse, I`m no Oconner cheerleader, he got it wrong bigstyle, but having one guy judge the thing, then punishing him when his opinion of how the fight went differs from the norm is scapegoating in my opinion. The blame should be left squarley on the shoulders of the board me thinks. The system needs to be changed.

Once again I find myself agreeing wihg Spud.

The problem is, most people don't actually know how to score a fight and are led by TV commentators drivel. Jim Watt knows his stuff but Adam Smith, come on? Football suffers the same when the so, called experts make comment and get the rules wrong themselves.

For the record I thought McDermott won and I too wondered iof O'Connor had grabbed the wrong arm at the end, although the in early rounds I did give Fury a share or a win, but TV had it all McDermott and this was misleading.

For me a witchhunt on the internet against an individual who made a mistake at work is not something I want to be involved in.

Feel free to sign it only if you have NEVER made a cock up of anything at work.

The decision won't be changed and the result will stand forever. Move on, there will be a rematch
and it will be bigger and better and both fighters will earn more no doubt.

The prpblem is very few people really know how to score a fight properly and opinion is baded on what they hear and not what they see.

Terry is a good honest bloke whoi had a bad day (Maybe another) but please don't start building gallows.

In the very well run sport of football, O'Conner would be downgraded for a period.

Sensible adminstrating.

Well said, I think somebody should start a petition on whether this guys petition should be shoved up his arse. The system is flawed and the judge should be not be held accountable. This decision was based on one persons opinion.

Is funny though how this one person's opinion is different by quite a bit to 99% of everyone elses... it's basically why the whole topic has been fired up.
