Definitely. It's not about losing weight, it's about getting in shape.

The sensible answer has to be to stop talking and learn. He is so young for a HW and with so much time on his side he needs to stop rushing and take his time. Spar with some decent fighters to gain experiance and keep busy with overseas opponents. He needs another year to 18 months before fighting for a British title IMO. I think he needs to give up the English title rather than face McDermott again.

I think if he had a top quality trainer who made him use his size and jab as his primary weapon (a bit like Lewis) he could be more effective. Maybe going to America for some top sparring and a few fights would do him good. I feel if he goes for the British title (Is he mandatory now?) it maybe to soon.
Forget it...Even slightly comparing Fury with Lewis :o ...Just look at the conditioning diff between the two!. no dis respect to McDermott, what do you think Lewis would have done to him...Even at Fury's supposed age and his experiance so far?! If he moves up slightly past the level he is fighting at he will be exposed. I have no idea why everyone is getting so carried away with Fury, one of the most over hyped fighters ive seen

- Lewis was doing 3 rounders in headgear with powderpuff pillow gloves at Fury's age.

Have no idea why soft lads of today can't learn their numbers and how to read time to understand fighter records. To the back of the short bus you go.

That's an interesting take on the fact that he won the World Junior Championships and was competing in the Olympics, winning the Commonwealth Games etc, etc...

I suspect I'm not alone in thinking that Fury would actually have been far better off going the Lewis route and staying amateur for longer.
Given his age there were no time pressures regarding turning pro and he could have enjoyed a far more balanced learning curve in the ams in terms of greater international experience etc.
As it is, he's been over-hyped to date and is in real danger of burning out early if he's not handled carefully. Anyone remember George Collins....?

So do you think in your opinion Fury would of beat Lewis at if both were 21? IMO Lewis woudl blow Fury apart and it should not even be discussed.

- Fury is a natural fighter and as such the amas have nothing to teach him but bad habits that have to be broken by those turning pro.

Lewis wasn't a natural fighter and lacked the confidence to turn pro after his previous failed Olympic effort. Staying ama turned out to be a winning/maturing experience for him overall, but unrealistic expectations of gold medalists hindered him through his career as the stick he took for his only two losses show.

Of course Fury is overhyped starting with the name. I can't speak to the burning out specifically, but most fighters do burn out because of the poor way boxing conducts it's business. And then the fans, most of whom want to see the kid in the light of their own personal limitations. The kid just took it to the English champ in a scrap most agree was quite tasty, and look at how he's savaged. T'ain't a rumour, Brits do eat their own with relish.

Facts are he's hugely talented with some excellent natural attributes and could make some money and a splash more than the considerable sums he's already made as a novice fighter. After 8 fights he's arguably the best heavy the UK has got with plenty more in the tank. The only question for me is whether his background is gonna strangle him before boxing can poison him before he has a chance to see a fraction of his potential?

Graveyards of boxing littered with fine talented heavies who got tripped up by life's wicked fates.

Don't agree with everything you're saying but you make some really good points and appreciate the fact you've come back with some compelling arguments rather than just telling me I'm talking sh*t :TU:

The one thing I would say with regards to the fans is that Fury's created a lot of this problem himself - he's been so quick to run his mouth off that when he then fails to deliver in line with his own claims it's inevitable there's going to be a backlash.
When he first turned pro I was really excited and keen to follow him, but he's gradually managed to alienate me through a combination of boasting, disrespectful attitudes towards numerous fellow boxers and an apparent lack of commitment in terms of conditioning.
I sure he's managed to turn away other potential fans in this manner as well.

I think his next 3 fights should

Dave Ferguson a tough fight for him I think he should win but he needs a fight like this

Scott Gammer as long as he doesnt win prizefighter he would be a good fight for him he's a tough lad who would really test Fury

Michael Sprott a decent strong fighter who would give Fury a real test I think if he came through that he would be ready for a British title shot

But 1st he needs to give McDermott a remtach after the Ferguson fight imo

- Big News Flash for ya: Fury and his team don't plan their future according to your limited fantasies.

Fury offered McD a rematch next month and McD's response? Nary a Little Bo Peep out of him.

Tyson Fury has the whole of the world beckoning as his oyster. He can't be hanging around to be yanked about by the dictates of you and McD. Let's get it on or move on down the road man........"Well, c'mon," as my good buddy Lyndon used to say when it was time to put up or shutup, either man up or get yourselves properly fixed!

I think you will find that the verdict is to be discussed at the next board meeting, and McDermott's team are pushing hard for a rematch
