Surely the public reaction to Froch-Taylor not been shown live would tell TV execs that we would all want to watch Froch-Dirrell?
Was there a public reaction?
Well by "public", I mean us boxing fans. ITV only bought the delayed coverage at a late date because fans were so annoyed there was no live coverage. A website was even set up to stream the fight for a payment, by Mick Hennesy.
I know what you're saying, but I doubt TV execs received one complaint on their desks.

Surely a tournament that does away with the clamour for alphabelts and sets about finding out who the best boxer in the divison is, is the most exciting thing to happen to boxing for a while and would attract some sort of TV deal??
You are living in an absolute bubble.

The 'public' knows nothing about this tournament, let alone Froch.

Us few on the forum are not representative of the population. Ask your dad if he knows about a tournament that 'does away with the clamour for alphabets'..
yeh to be fair the only fight thats likely to grab the attention of the everyday public is the Haye v Valuev fight and thats due to shock factor when you see the size difference.

If i said carl froch to 50 random people on the street most wouldnt know what i was talking about and some would think i was swearing at them in german.

If i said amir khan (a person froch is currently slagging off) to the same 50 people i would expect the vast majority would know who he is.

And if i said super six smw boxing tourney i would get blank expressions all round, it hasnt been advertised and despite it being one of the most exciting things to happen in boxing for years, its not even on bloody telly.

I am kind of hoping Eurosport might show something on delayed. They've dealt with Hennessy before and have some bizarre deal with Showtime (sometimes they show live showtime fights, sometimes not).

Sky or ITV will wait to the last miniute to offer a bargain basement price, Big Mick will sell us it on stream for 15 to watch the fight the fight at 2 frames per second and sell the fight on to ITV for the next day. Might be another Froch fight I dont catch live

What a joke, the first time in ages that we have a set of top fighters all ready to fight each other in some quality matchups and it will go largely unnoticed in Britain.
I bet Carl could walk down his own street completely anonomously

Its crap if we dont get this on UK tv. Sky have upped their ante since Setanta went down the pan, they really need to get this. Its PPVable, much more interesting than Khans fights.
I miss Setanta so much, they really gave the fans what they wanted! Sky ought to take note, but 99% of sky sports purchasers get it for the Premier League.

I agree with your general argument, but disagree about Froch. He's big enough news in Nottingham. His picture is in a lot of windows, he's something of a local celebrity.

Actually, the public do know about Froch. I remember after the Froch-Pascal fight, my dad and a few friends all called me asking if I had seen it. People who had a passing interest in the sport watched it because it was on ITV and it was a cracker so lots of them remember Froch. Of course, he isn't a calzaghe, hatton or khan but who is? I guarantee that ITV got good viewing figures for Froch-Pascal and Froch-Taylor the day after the fight. Why wouldn't this tourney get a good reaction with the right promotion?
You have answered your own question there. It has had no promotion. The reason is, because it has no TV.

ITV had OK figures for those fights. The fact is, the viewing figures they have received over the last year or so have not encouraged them to remain within the sport.

In troubled times, there is no slack, the least profitable product has to go. Boxing is one of them.

You are right though, Froch has achieved an increasing profile. But let's be honest, it should be much, much bigger.

As it happens, he is entering into an interesting tournament and receiving no credit for it.

Rumours are that ITV may be doing a u-turn but only if Hennessy doesn't ask for unrealistic money.
