Well, you are entitled to your opinion but we are going to press on regardless of the negativity. This may not have been perfectly planned but the answer is not simply to give up. Maybe we did jump the gun but the campaign is up and running now and we're going to make the best of it we can. I hope you will get on board.

I find Hausers constant whining boring to be honest, he's excellent and very thorough, but I find his negativity a massive turn off.
i agree somewhat, moreso in his previous article, the memo to ross greenburg.
To an extent you're right. But that was also a public reply to something Ross instigated because Hauser had criticized (and rightly so) in his article towards the back end of last year in S/O about the direction HBO were taking after DLH v Mayweather.

Of course I will, I would love to see this campaign succeed. Just because I don't think it has been run well doesn't mean I won't support it. Sent you a PM.

A large proportion of his articles seem to be about the myriad of problems afflicting boxing.

I'm not saying that he shouldn't be writing about them, I think it's just because I'm so jaded about boxing anyway, that the last thing I want to read about is boxing's shitty setup.

definitely, it all seems to be unravelling for ross g and it's good to hear about this.

on the other hand, thousands of words of negativity and complaining - however brilliantly researched and however insightful - can be a bit...filling.

true, and obviously he has to be able to back it up if he's taking pot shots at Powerful People, which also adds to the length

and clearly, greenburg is the bad guy, seems to have done a great deal wrong, caused a great deal of waste, and has shown shocking bias to one particular promoter

especially during a recession, you perhaps expect a bit better, to pull boxing out of it

and victor "he was hitting me too hard" ortiz spectacularly misfired

the length actually added to the appeal for me. Like, here is something that is obviously valid/sourced/unimpeachable etc. plus it really gives the impression just what a huge nasty can of worms the HBO/GBP dyad is.

I know what you mean, but it's hard to write/talk about boxing when the fights people want to see are simply not happening often enough. For years the networks and promoters have been trying to tell us which fights we want to watch in order to serve their agenda, rather than listening to which fights we say we want to watch.

HBO are guilty of that more than anyone and it boggles the mind how someone like Ross Greenberg still holds his current position after making so many mistakes. HBO have pissed away absolute millions on fights that were clearly not wanted or needed. It's been reported many a time that Greenberg isn't a boxing fan, and his knowledge of the sport is severly lacking. Yet here we are still having to put up with all the howlers he makes. Showtime have shown how things should be done on a fraction of the budget that HBO has. They used to hand out exclusive contracts as well and it gave them nothing but problems. Now they just cherry pick the fights they want and although it doesn't always work, they hve gotten it right a hell of a lot more than HBO.

Thomas Hauser's articles are brilliant in the sense that they go past all the bulls**t on the surface and get down to the finer points which actually tell us something about what's going on. Article likes this are exactly what we should be reading, because they tell us the truth.
