All of Flint Islands threads that I've seen have been about a fighter, bottling it.......getting paid peanuts..........getting exposed as a fraud.............being a "shot" entering a World Title fight.........etc etc...and this is on the back off a load of Enzo bashing. I think Bruno's mental health was failing him before the 2nd Tyson fight, if he was at the depths of depression with his undiagnosed Bi-polar at the time, its understandable that he didn't perform.

Ken Norton was a strange one, he beat some excellent fighters and gave Ali and Holmes all they could handle, but when he met the really big punchers, monsters like Foreman and Shavers, even Cooney late on, he'd freeze up and get sparked in 1 or 2 rounds. And when Ken got knocked out, he really got knocked out.

Back in the 80's, one of FW's best prospects was unbeaten middle Jimmy Price - often on ITV and really looked the business, but when Frank stepped him up against the ( relatively ) light punching Ayub Kalule, for his big break through fight, he froze under the lights and was shockingly flattened inside a round.
They tried to bring him back against Herol Graham, but he was again whacked out inside and round, and that's all she wrote.

Good one about Bonecrusher. He was supposed to be a big hitter, going to fight fire with fire with Tyson, but quickly went into his shell. Only real significent shot Smith landed was in the last few seconds of the fight, which shows it was definitely a case of too little, too late! Bruno in the rematch with Tyson was something different. Where he had been in with Mike before, he knew what was coming to him, what to expect, which was probably not a good thing for Frank!

I can still see Frank crossing himself numerous times on his way to the walk & talking to himself. The staredown is good to watch. When Mills Lane asks if each guys if they have any question, Tyson shakes his head No, his eyes only close for a split second, but his stare does not change! Its chilling.

Tyson got to Bruno very quickly. Frank was cut in the first. The end combo to end the fight was awesome. People always talk about the uppercuts from Tyson, but the right to the body to set up the combination made Bruno wince & it was curtains from then on!

bonecrusher didnt freeze he just decided after round 1 (when he felt tysons power) that survival was his best option for the fight

I'm a kevin anderson fan and thought that that the British title was his for taking back in his second fight against McIntyre.

For whatever reason he just totally froze up and didn't look up for it.

Cliff Etienne in the Tyson fight, froze, didnt fancy it, whatever, he was shite.

And did Herbie Hide freeze in the Klitchko fight, or just didnt fancy it after the first punch he received? Actually I dont think he froze, just didnt fancy it.

You cant say he froze - he fought competively for 12 rounds

She never froze when she had to face a big challenge - she just got down on here knees and took the count

According to Terry D article on Lennox Lewis before - he claims Lewis froze on his first pro fight in Amercia.

I'm no psycological expert

But I'm wondering if anyone out there can say what is the main reason a fighter "freezes" on the night

I mean they might be confident on the weeks leading up to the fight like Bruno sounded super confident

Then on the night - it all falls apart even before a punch is thrown...........

always think bruno gets a bad rap on the 2nd tyson fight.

he came out bombing with tyson.

he picked up that terrible cut at the end of rd 1 which badly affected him.

he had to turn lefty cos it was so nasty.

he'd had eye trouble going into the fight as well of course.

tyson was always a bad style for frank anyway.

Lets be fair tyson was a bad style for most back then

Woods v Tarver is the most clear cut freeze I can recall. He literally forgot everything he'd been taught. Walked forward without throwing shots asking to be knocked backwards.

He had Floyd Patterson disease that night.

However, his toughness and Tarver disbelief that it was so easy kept him upright.

That opinion could be countered by arguing that Lewis was merely giving an early indication of the innate caution that would serve him well. I think he froze a little myself.

Wharton v Benn a good 'un. If you talk to Henry he admits he froze early on in that one. Shame too. Wharton could pagger.
