oliver i think, at the top level, Taylor is just about done. just my opinion.
Re: IF YOU'RE JERMAIN TAYLOR DO YOU CARRY ON IN THE SUPER SIX
Bit far that is.. Brain Damage
Gatti took much worse hidings throughout his career and come back better!!
Let's not forget Taylor was winning easy against Froch and was smashing Pavlik for the first half of there fight, I think he just needs a little break, Taylor without doubt is still a world class operator.. Ok he got outclassed against Abraham BUT there's no shame in that at all. I hope Taylor continues and I suspect he will too as he's being very well paid in this tournament..

Tony- i do not like the look Taylor gets in his face. he starts looking very discouraged as though he doesn't want to be in there himself. top guy with a lot of courage but i question if his 'heart' is truly in it?

Jermain Taylor is a brave fella, but he doesn't quite have that flint-hard stomach. I'm not criticising him, but he, has a mix of Floyd Patterson and Frank Bruno vulnerability when the darkest hour has to be faced. He doesn't lack courage he just cannot generate the where with all to escape once cornered or the self-belief to prevail, hold, old man it through to the bell.
He could casually be called a front-runner but I think Taylor is far more complex character than that.
If he is pulled, then there is no shortage of possible replacements who would surely snatch your hand off for potential shots at the titles, forget the points, these guys hold belts which are put on the line.
Bute, Mundine, Green.....Winky, Jones Jnr, Pavlik......

No chance Mundine would fancy it. The tournament's not made up of Argentinian moonshine vendors and/or guys he's already beaten twice.

Overreact, hes in a competition with the worlds 6 best fighter who all know he can be ko'd and with 3 points for a ko thats exactly what they will be looking for.oliverfennell wrote:Come on, how many boxers have suffered three or more stoppage defeats? It's always bad to see anybody stretched out like that, but let's not overreact.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:He's done, he cant compete, he will carry on to pick up the checks but I'd probably advice him to go into journeyman mode, covering up, moving, punching/holding etc. 3 KOs means hes getting brain damaged right now

Great thread.....i like JT felt bad for him...12 secs left and boom...de ja vu. Remember at the end of the day he is a warrior and these fights give him a good payday....they where bad kos and i dont want to see him punch drunk or shot to bits but if he stays in he has some solid paydays ahead in the super six still...and if in the kesler fight he looks as tho he might take a knap i m sure his corner will pull him out..he was unlucky i did not see the knock out coming that late on and i m sure his corner didnt to...it wasnt like the pavlik or froche knock out.

Only one extra point for the KO.bigjack wrote:Overreact, hes in a competition with the worlds 6 best fighter who all know he can be ko'd and with 3 points for a ko thats exactly what they will be looking for.oliverfennell wrote:Come on, how many boxers have suffered three or more stoppage defeats? Yes, he's in with six of the world's best fighters, which in itself represents an immediate route back if (highly unlikely) he can beat any of them.

Biggest mistake he ever made was joining Steward.

I'd agree. Not that I think he was some candidate for ATG-ness before, but Emanuel really didn't seem to know what to do with him (either that or Steward's jab-jab-right cross-grab teachings didn't gel with Jermaine).Emerson Poncey Name Ghent wrote:Biggest mistake he ever made was joining Steward.

Plenty have but those were all brutal and getting punched in the face kils brain cells, getting ko'd and suffering concussions may lead to some noticable brain damage, slurring etc. Taylors defense has been exposed as pretty awful, in the past hes been able to outspeed his oponent but hes been figured out now.oliverfennell wrote:Come on, how many boxers have suffered three or more stoppage defeats? I actually initially said he should pick up the checks and spoil, now I think he should retire because he hasnt got the defense to spoil. Ward is hungry and will probably give him another beating. Taylor is done at this level unless he gets a Hopkins 3 fight and I wouldnt fancy him in that either

Re: IF YOU'RE JERMAIN TAYLOR DO YOU CARRY ON IN THE SUPER SIX
No he has to retire now, no point going on - he's been badly knocked out three times now, and the last two were heartbreakers. He's a multi millionare, never been in love with the sport and has young kids at home - time to go fishing.
Feel sorry for him, a real nice guy, and has been taking on some of the hardest bastards in the sport lately, and given it 100% every time. The AA knockout was pretty frightening, went down like he'd been shot.
Bring dangerman Allan Green in instead - he should have got the call over Dirrell in the first place.
Abraham is a monster - the way he makes the most of his limitations is unbelievable. I see a few were saying he just plods about, but what's he going to do, dance around on his toes? That peekaboo defence is a nightmare to get through, Taylor's jab couldn't get through at all.
And they way he shuffles about behind that guard, then suddenly explodes reminds me of Colin Jones. He'll beat Froch, both have the big punch and huge heart, but AA is much more savvy. It'll be an X rated one, that's for sure.

If he wasn't in the tournament then yes he should but I can't see him wanting to go out like this - I think he could beat Dirrell, Froch and possibly Ward if he met any of them - I think AA and Kessler are too good. He was beating Froch until the final round and if it isn't a mental block he has in that last round then there is no reason it should happen again. If psychologically he feel he cant go the distance and is liable to get ko'd then he should retire - but if he feels his head is right then go for it, he is a big underdog now and may surprise a few people in his next two fights.

He has now suffered three brutal knockouts in recent fights, it's time to hang em up, his heart wasn't even in it against Abaraham.doctorboxing wrote:If he wasn't in the tournament then yes he should but I can't see him wanting to go out like this - I think he could beat Dirrell, Froch and possibly Ward if he met any of them - I think AA and Kessler are too good. there has to be a way to continue the competition with a replacement, due to the inherent dangers in boxing.tonyevs wrote:DG. wrote:Apparently Taylor will be in hospital for s few days with severe concussion. X2
I`d hate to see him continue out of some sort of loyalty - and get hurt.
Who would they install to replace him? and how would that effect the competition?
how it will effect the points I'm not too sure to be honest.
Taylor should walk away, he could go a few rounds with Kessler for the pay then get pulled out, only in all likelihood he'll continue to brave it out and end up getting smashed to the deck. I wouldn't even rule out another last minute KO, if the fights still going at that point......can you imagine the pressure Kessler would be bringing to Taylor....Taylor would go on the run and get that caught up in avoiding Kessler's bombs that he'd forget to throw leather back, and that would play right into Kessler hands........It can't be that hard to KO somebody who is gassed when you haven't got to be concerned about them clocking you as they're just in survival mode.
With the career he's had, and the level of the fighters he's in with, this is no longer the right place for him.
Will he walk away and have the stain of dropping out of this tournamen blemishing his record, very unlikely I'd say. And also, if he fought Froch who can look like a right plodder at times, I could see JT beating Froch in a rematch....but I'm not even sure that meeting Froch is even a possibilty for him in this tournamet now.
