I have come to respect Larry Holmes but I can name five fighters that Ali beat that could beat everybody Larry Homes beat
-Sonny Liston
-Joe Frazier
-George Foreman
-Floyd Patterson
-Jerry Quarry
I am also not convinced Larry can beat Big George or Joe Frazier.
Not sure Patterson would beat The Cooney that Holmes beat and also Quarry would be a 50/50... Cooney was a beast in 82. And I'd take Norton to beat both of them.
But I do rate Ali as the number 1 HW of all time!

Cooney, "a beast?"
He was genuinely good, but he had some glaring deficiences. A dangerous fighter, but never as good as they said he was (& even then, they would have hesitated to call him a beast).

You sure you like Quarry over Norton?
Wouldn't like patterson's chances against Shavers & Witherspoon should be favored over Quarry & Patterson. That doesn't even account for Quarry's flesh getting ripped by someone along the way and upsets that certainly would occur.

And Bonecrusher was a very hard puncher, so Floyd might have had a tough time with that matchup. The same could be said for Weaver/Patterson.
And Quarry would have had a tough time with Williams jab, even though Williams was quite green when Holmes struggled with him.

All wasted fighters. Cooney, to be fair, couldn't have done any better with them than he did, but, c'mon...you gotta do better than crushing geriatrics (all three were truly shot ducks) to earn that kind of rep.

Agreed... And if u look at my post earlier u can see I rate Norton above Cooney. But still he was a scary fighter b4 Holmes skooled him. Don't 4get I'm not talking about the Cooney vs Spinks/Foreman.
