tut tut, hut hut....spend some time and money and dig up some louis prime on tape..and read what guys who fought him had to say about his power...then come back and get into discussions with the adults.

Well, let's be generous to our Samoan friends and say that Tua hits 50% harder than Louis (whether he actually lands them, and the fact that he is totally gassed after throwing 3 or 4 such punches are of course completely irrelevant, and should be disregarded by the members of the jury). Then, since Tua weighs about twice as much as Louis did, by your own standard Louis is the better p4p puncher.

This list just further proves my point: The Ring magazine sucks.

Founding member dies, experienced writers quit, and Corky from "Life goes On" is hired as their new research man.

If you look at the quality of their magazine, you'll notice it takes a staggering drop about 3 years ago.

Atleast they mentioned MOST of the decent punchers. Now all they have to do is arrange them the right way.

I count the heavyweights as being one size, it gets too complicated comparing heavyweights P4P because their weights can vary so much...and indeed I would say Tua hits harder than Louis, as far as sheer brute force goes, yes.
Anyway....I wasn't saying my list was diffinitive, Im not knolegable enough by half to compile a list like that, but I was just citing an example of what a more reasonable one might look like, in comparison to the fornicating shambles that the Ring published.

Jacleam, theres really no need to be so patronising and inimical. As a matter of facts I have several Louis fights on tape. He strikes me as the most accurate and efficiant puncher Ive ever seen and offensivley incredible, but as far as sheer brute force goes, as a 200lb heavyweight, he gets edges out of this list. Just because you disagree with someone you dont need to such a bam-pot.

double hut.....glad you're looking at a few films. however, i can understand why you don't have the time to really get into boxing history right now. you're at the age when you're starting to get interested in girls, you're worried about your complexion and your voice is doing strange things, you've got lots of homework (put some extra time into your spelling)and you've damn near got a hernia from carrying around that heavy book bag.

That list like practically every hard-hitter list is total absolute bullshit.

There is NO WAY Joe Louis should be at the top. Practically everyone seems to follow this bible that Joe Louis was the greatest puncher, and no tape of his fight can tell them otherwise. And this list is way too biased towards heavyweights.

I just cannot believe these type of ratings. So many of the guys in there don't deserve to be higher than guys who are lower.

Class comment and pretty funny too.

Hut*Hut makes some stupid comments but why are so many people so ZEALOUS about Joe Louis's power? Watch the fight tapes, don't go by records, what opponents say etc. etc. It often took him dozens of clean punches landed square on the jaw to finish off a guy.

You make some very fair points. Pound for pound, most heavyweights don't punch a jot compared to the smaller guys. Give us your top ten?

I did not say that or anything remotely near that. You misread my post, please read again. And no I won't give my top ten, because it's impossible to make an accurate top ten, absolutely impossible. I could definately have done a better job, but I won't.
