Munroe turns down 3 World Title Opportunities In 1 Year!!
Re: Munroe turns down 3 World Title Opportunities In 1 Year!!
FFS sake let Rendall earn a living for a bit before rolling the dice at world level.
He's been a euro champ now for a couple of fights and leave him at that level until the right opportunity comes along i say.
Why everyone is screaming for him jump at a world title right now, when he can develop further and give himself a decent shout is beyond me.
And Dunne? who's bothered. The way he went down in his last fight..well, it was strange to say the least. 'Phantom Punch' comes to mind.

yea that fight needs to happenLenny wrote:Munroe was offered the Cordoba fight, Maloney has publicly said so but didn't think he was ready. Fair enough in my opinion.
Dunne took the chance and it paid off, until he had to take his next fight that is...
But I wouldn't criticise Munroe for the Morris loss, it was a huge step up in class at the time against a very in form Morris and he pushed him all the way
Shame if Dunne does move up as the Munroe fight has unfinished business about it

Agreed although I would have loved to have seen Munroe V Dunne last year though. I think the moment has passed for good now. Dunne was very badly beaten last time out and his 'interim' title winning effort must have also taken a lot out of him. What a warrior though.G0mez wrote:FFS sake let Rendall earn a living for a bit before rolling the dice at world level.

As a fan I'd rather see a boxer step up to the plate to face the tough opposition win or lose. Better to lose badly to a world class guy like Poonsawat than to coast along putting in average performances against very mediocre European and African opposition. Dunne won the Ordinary title not the interim title but you already know that.tannervegas wrote:Agreed although I would have loved to have seen Munroe V Dunne last year though. I'd rather see a boxer make money ![[icon_e_geek.gif] :geek:](./images/smilies/icon_e_geek.gif)

Trust me, Dunne has made more than Munroe will ever make 8) It shouldn't be about money though, a true fan should want to see their guys fighting the best. Maybe you should watch The Apprentice instead of boxing if that's what you're into.banjo wrote:I'd rather see a boxer make money
Just to clarify, I did not bring the Dunne comparison into this thread, that was Gemmell. I started this thread to point out the inconsistencies between the sh*t Maloney was spouting about Munroe a few months ago and the actual direction his career is taking.

No...he actually won one of two titles that are disgracefully up for grabs by an overly greedy sanctioning body and it wasn't the more prestigious unified belt either that he won was it....but you already knew that.Badass wrote:As a fan I'd rather see a boxer step up to the plate to face the tough opposition win or lose. That said I'm a big, big fan of Dunne's.

that's quite funny. i wouldnt be to sure about that mate. since when has dunne made a shit load of money?? he got around 110 thousand euro's for the poonsawat fight i heard. dunne made 3 defences of his ebu title munroe has already made 4. i think fighters get around 35k for a defence of the ebu title. sometimes more. "dunne has made more then munroe ever will" well munroe better retire after his next fight if your theory is correct because he can't be far behind dunne in terms of ££££££££
Re: Munroe turns down 3 World Title Opportunities In 1 Year!!
yep munroe is making himself quite wealthy and picking up experience along the way. ryan rhodes says he will make defences of his ebu title to get money in the bank instead of chasing a world title at the minutG0mez wrote:FFS sake let Rendall earn a living for a bit before rolling the dice at world level.

Sounds like Monroe is being quite sensible, why allow yourself to get beat when you're not quite ready, and threaten your career prospects.
I'm sure Monroe wants the title shot, he's just learing his trade, racking up a few defences, making some cash, and giving himself some time.
There's been many a fighter ruined by a brutal defeat at world level.
