I like characters like Anthony 'Sugar Ray Clay Jones Jr' Small, he's different! He uses his BIG gob to get noticed and to get people on boxing forums (and elsewhere) talking about him. Seems he's doing it quite well going on this thread

I have had the displeasure of dealing with Mr Small on a professional basis, and apart from being totally loopy, he is extremely disrespectful to well, Everyone.

Having just been taken to the cleaners by Wazza who now has him tied to a Management Contract for 18 months that he arrogantly thought he could walk away from, will that make his Promotional aspirations come true ?

There is nothing wrong with a boxer having confidence and he has it in abundance. Hope he goes all the way.

A lot of his mouth is purely to sell the tickets and promote the show.

Small-Rhodes would be a great fight especially after their recent history, but Rhodes will quite rightly be looking for a World title shot off the back of his win over Moore. If that doesn't come off though Small would be a great voluntary for RR's Euro title

i watched him in 2001 box for fitzroy lodge against the army he boxed a mate of mine from manchester danny harding he was a proper dick head then gobbing off to everyone and he got beat i was glad i thought wat a gobshite, he has some talent tho must admit but class 1 prick

As things stand, Ryan is a free agent Promotionally but is jointly managed by Wazza.
There's a great deal of work going on in the background, and there will be developments before the end of 2009.
Lenny - whether there is unfinished business or not, Mr Small brings nothing to the table.
Ryan is looking forwards not backwards.

anthony small is just a class act outside the ring, he knows how to build a fight up and he's a great laugh. he made that fight with mathew hall interesting beforehand, he got people talking about it and he did what he said he was going to do.

ok he's not a great boxer and i dont see him being a world champion but he could beat rhodes.

I think Small deserves a fight with Rhodes on account of Rhodes pulling out when they were scheduled to meet and the fact that he is the prominent domestic rival at LMW

Whether he gets it or not is another thing

Maybe the Small that I know was having a bad run then because the last thing I would describe him as, outside the ring, is a class act.

Was that the first & only time you have met Small? I train at Fitzroy Lodge all the time & I remember when Anthony boxed for them. In all my time talking to him, training with him, he gave nothing but encouragement. Granted, he loud, brash, always on the wind-up, but he was fun to be around.

I wish the guy nothing but success!

He isn't.
What people should realise is that Small got his chance domestically because Rhodes vacated following his inability to fight with the Chest Infection.
Rhodes could have sat on the title and waited for the fight to be rescheduled - complicated considerably by the demise of Setanta.
The fact is Rhodes has moved on.
Having secured the EBU title, why would Rhodes remotely consider dropping back to Domestic level ?
Also Rhodes is ranked 3 with the WBC so is looking at a World Title oppertunity.
You have to earn the right.

He is arguably number 1 in Britain at the weight - Ryan Rhodes will not fight him so we will never know.

Why is Anthony Small such a w----r? Because it gets people talking about him.

At the end of the day, boxers can fight whoever they like (within reason) , belts are won, lost given away willy nilly and title's don't mean much.

It's not what you win, it's whom you beat.

Small, I would hope, can win easily enough on Friday then be looking for a decent match up.

It would be an interesting fight - and one I'd like to watch.

Moore's next fight, presumably at middleweight, will tell us a lot. Moore V Hall is a fight I'd love to see.

Oh no!

And to be honest until RR beat JM I thought RR was on the wrong side of the hill.

JM has better defence than RR and defence would be needed against an unpredictable fighter like Small.
