I think it was just a case of a young prospect gunning for a knockout win at all costs against a more experienced pro who realised it was a 4 round fight and not a 1 round fight,Crewe just blew himself out and was out boxed.

No disrespect, but I don`t agree.

He might look Sh*t hot in the gym, but come fight night it is a different matter.

Admittedly I have only seen him twice, but he has been very poor in both fights. No real power (despite thinking he has), poor technique and a terrible defence.

Some major improvements needed if he is to get anywhere. I hope he learns from this fight as people seem to think he has what it takes, so there must be something there. Sadly I haven`t seen anything that is remotely impressive.

That loss will do him some good. Last time I watched him I was sat next to someone who said he'd get beat as soon as he met a fighter with a decent defence who could box a bit.

I also think he looks like he's carrying too much muscle / bulk for his weight, and could drop at least a weight class so he's fighting people closer to his height. If he can do that and take his power down with him then he'll be a real handful.

One question- does he have much of a following? IE does he sell a lot of tickets?

The original 'Super Bad' Bernard Mays was another fighter who fell well short of expectations.

Coming up through the junior amateur ranks at the Kronk he was supposed to be the best fighter in the gym and a world champion in the making. I think alcoholism did for him though and he died from alcoholism in the 90s without leaving his mark on the pro game.

I certainly hope Steve's career has a happier ending!!

Barnes is at such a young age anything could happen from here onwards.

On what's been seen so far, he does look "super bad", but in the worse sense of the expression. He should think about moving to Sportsnetwork, because if he sells enough tickets they will happily feed him the poor opposition he needs to get the wins at the moment. He looked poor the last time he was in ITV, but who knows, maybe an actual loss will be a blessing in disguise.

Well done to Bailey, who didn't read the script and upset the house fighter. It seemed to me, only the journeyman mentality held him back from a possible stoppage win.

Whats the limit on switching back to amateurs. Any mileage in him doing this and having two or three seasons in the ams before coming back?

4 wins 3 losses hardly a journey man

Fought three times this month (nov), once he appeared to be the house fighter and won, twice he was brought in as opponent. Lost the first, we all saw the second. Seems to want to fight to make a quid, and he isnt fussed who against. Sounds like the early career of an enthusiastic journeyman to me. Probably struggle to get fights against young prospects after sat!!

Good luck to Bailey, had an exciting style didnt he.

Fair enough, "opponent" might be more accruate than journeyman.

Must be in a tricky position.

No-one will want to book a fighter who might beat a fancied prospect.

I was meant to be fighting Bailey this Saturday. He has just pulled out though, hurt his arm in the Barnes fight :witzend:

I noticed that on boxrec, too, then noticed it had been changed.

To be fair- a week isn't a long break between fights, so even if he wasn't injured, he might not have been at his best. I know some of the journeymen do weekly fights regualrly, but few others do it.

I think THEBUTCH means that Bailey has taken on a journeyman roll as a fighter ie taken fights at last min notice like the day before etc. Some fighters do actually start out as journeymen... to be a journeyman doesn't mean you have to have had alot of fights, a journeyman is a fighter who is willing to travel and fight whenever and whoever.

Yeah I see what u mean...thats why I was surprised to see him in the ring Saturday and gutted too, as I had a feeling it may lead to him not fighting me the following week. Shame....im fighting Chris Riley now instead :box:

Cheers for that mate as I'd missed that result completely. I'd asked elsewhere on the forum a few weeks ago what was happening with Crewe as I'd liked what I'd seen - powerful, compact and explosive, so this result is genuinely shocking.
Anyone have any more details?
