Green got 3 KOs but only one meant anything in world terms. Katsidis' results came against much stronger opposition, pound for pound, only Jones was by far a bigger name. I'd also rank Katsidis as more likely to win a genuine world title. Also, the SD against Escobedo should really have been a UD under sane judges.

though i agree the SD against scoobidoo should have been a UD.
but to say this fighter is a strong opposition does'nt mean anything.
Escobedo is a hype job, until Katsidis exposed him..

Are you being a little harsh on Scooby? I didn't hear any of the hype about him so I can't comment on that, what were they saying? He did look to me to have nice boxing skills. I thought he out boxed Katsidis in the early rounds but succumbed to Mike's relentlessness - IMO he needs to develop conditioning and toughness if he wants to be a serious contender. But at the end of the day he went 12 rounds with Katsidis who is an animal and Scooby wasn't seriously hurt at any stage.

I wonder how closely Team Marquez were watching that fight?

is no "strong opposition".. decent is a fair description..

Better than the two fellas Green fought before Jones.

Chavez and Escobedo are far better than the two no names Green beat, and I would argue at this stage are right up there with Roy Jones. Katsidis completely dominated Escobedo, the fact that one judge was watching a different fight shouldn't be a knock against him when comparing the results. For me Katsidis is the Australian Boxer of the Year.

well, i have no problem giving it to Katsidis..
but, i like the fact that Green only needed
"Eight Rounds" to beat the three of them..

btw, the poll is tied right now at 13 each..

It is important to note when you are using the amount of rounds each fighter went as a basis for your pick that all the fighters Green beat had been stopped on multiple occasions before and two of them had been stopped in earlier rounds than Green managed, with van Niekerk falling in one round to Mpush Makambi.

Jesus Chavez is one of the most durable, toughest little warriors in boxing and Katsidis made him quit, which says more to me than earlier stoppages of journeymen who had been knocked out before. Not even Floyd Mayweather, Erik Morales, or Humberto Soto could discourage Chavez to the point where he pulled himself out. And while I recognize he might not be the fighter he once was, neither is Jones, in fact I believe Escobedo and Chavez are close to his level.

Katsidis also dominated a former Olympian in his prime, who was boxing in good form recently. Again I believe that the level of Chavez and Escobedo in comparison with van Niekerk, Dominguez, and Jones is higher, even if Jones might be the best of any of the fighters (and if he is not by much at this stage, he hasn't beaten a top ten opponent in years). The fact that Jones is such a big name is the biggest boost for Green's claim to the Australian Fighter of the Year
