I think if you go and check out a few more of his fights, you'll realise he is a double-hard bastard.

A 'fighter' in every sense.

If Amir skips this fight to take on a BIG name like Hatton or JMM then I suppose it's difficult to criticise him, although personally I'd prefer to see Khan Vs Maidana than Khan Vs Hatton/JMM, but if he avoids Maidana to fight a substandard opponent then he deserves whatever criticsm comes his way.

I can forgive Salita as a first defence as it's the norm, but I'm really hoping Amirs not going to cherry-pick his forth coming fights. We need to see him in with someone who'll come forward and who can bang to see how much he's come on since the move to LA
I really hope that Marquez turns down a fight with Khan if it's offered at 140 - he's just not big enough to campaign at that weight.

is anyone suprised that khan doesnt want to fight a big hitter???

all his career except once was he put in with a puncher and look what happened??? , even light punching smaller guys knocked him down.

khan will need to fight the best if he signs with HBO

if i was HBO id sign him on a fight to fight basis because of his chin

khan fight the man or be known as a coward

If he does and has lined up say, the winner of Diaz vs Malignaggi it would be a bigger fight with less risk.

I agree it wont look good, but perhaps there will be more money.

That said, everyone knows who Maidana is on account of his Ortiz thriller.

The maidana fight has to happen in 90 days too.
They can get round the 90 days if they need to more likely aim for 4 months.

Is Maidana a southpaw? Because Freddie will want a southpaw for Khan so he can spar Pacman. If Kotelnik beat him, no reason Khan shouldn't. Besides, I thought Alexander was going to fight Maidana.

he turns southpaw because he telegraphs his right hand so badly. but he is rough, tough and powerful.

if khan vacates, then surely he will have something else lined up in its place? for instance, gun for a different belt i.e. bradley-peterson winner...like what david haye may do to avoid the dull WBA mandatories - fight one of the klitschko brothers, in haye's case.

if khan "avoids" maidana, it will be controversial. he either ducked a puncher, or he didn't need someone who lost to kotelnik. it can be argued either way.

I reckon Kotelniks got a better chin than Khan, so it's far from a given

I really hope think sisn't the case and Khan fights Maidana. He really needs to fight a puncher just to prove that the Prescott fight was an abhoration. So far he has only faced one puncher in Prescott and we all know what happened there. Perhaps his manage don't want to take a risk with the Prescott loss not that long ago. But he's got to face a puncher sooner or later.

what excuse could warren ever come up with for this ducking? 'We're looking for bigger and better things' is the clear candidate. then team khan will proceed to go silent while we hear the clear sound of allegedly calculating who is the right feather fisted chump in or around 140 pounds to be next in line for the circus.
What a shame for Team Khan the WBO title at the time was occupied by guys frankie wouldn't have put Khan near - then we would never have had these damn meddling dangerous mandatory shennanigans! boo hoo.

stylistically though, Kotelnik's chin HAD to be so much better than Khan's, because Kotelnik's style basically amounts to standing in front of his man and giving him chances to break his guard. Maidana managed this through sheer weight of punches, but i bet if Kotelnik had anything like Khan's wheels, he wouldn't have been stood in front of Maidana so much.

*if* khan fought maidan i guarantee you as a FACT that Khan would spend an average of 3.5 seconds per round in a stationary position and no more. win the round with 3 jabs and feck off out of there.

I agree, that's the sensible way to fight someone like Maidana i.e. Ward-Kessler

I was querying Gobbles statement that read "If Kotelnik beat him, no reason Khan shouldn't". Gobbles knows as well as us that it's not quite that simple

heh, i would like to think he does but this is forumland :TU:

i think by the way that Kotelnik's win vs Maidana- and the fight itself- don't get enough credit. punchstats had maidana throwing something like 1000+ punches? all of them, this being Maidana, 'foool bluddieed shoghts' as Watt would say.

possibly for kotelnik its because he was out-thrown and many people think he got a bit lucky with the scoring (i don't).

I've not seen the fight, but I think Maidana is one of them fighters that's always gonna be in a good scrap. I'm only going on the Ortiz-Maidana fight and his reputation, but I don't think we'll ever see Maidana in a BAD fight. He seems to have abit of the Margaritos/Andrades about him going on my brief viewing of him

HBO is working on a March 6 card that it hopes will feature junior welterweight titleholders Devon Alexander and Amir Khan of England defending their belts in separate fights, although it is not a tournament situation in which the winners would fight. HBO hopes to see Alexander face Marcos Maidana, an interim titlist who is Khan's mandatory challenger but would go for Alexander's version of the title. If Victor Ortiz wins his HBO fight Saturday, he could potentially challenge Khan. The details are still being sorted out, but Kevin Cunningham, Alexander's trainer and manager, is anxious to nail things down. "It looks like our fight will be the week before Mayweather-Pacquiao, the biggest fight in boxing [tentatively scheduled for March 13], so it brings even more excitement fighting the week before that fight. It's a great opportunity. We can't wait to sign a contract and go to camp and get the game plan started on whoever we'll be fighting. They throw a name out there, we'll take 'em. It doesn't matter to us."

so will Ortiz considered to be a bum (for quitting against Maidana) against Khan?

I seem to recall Khan beat Ortiz in one round when they were juniors. All different in the pro's, obviously, but I'd rather see Khan against Maidana.

I'd rather see Khan against Maidana, too. He'd be easier to beat than Ortiz and Khan would get more respect from the masses.

Khan beat Ortiz in the amateurs due to getting so far head in points that the bout was ended. The outclassing rule. Ortiz is nowhere near as fast as Khan but he's a very good boxer and really does pack a punch.

Yeah, I thought it was the 'outclassed' rule. In fairness, it's pretty damn impressive to outscore a guy by 15 points in 1 round.

Am I the only one who thinks Khan can easilly outbox Maidana?

Ortiz just believed in his own hype and took it to Maidana .. thus playing into his hands and giving him the only oppurtunity he had. Maidana is a tough guy - but very crude.

Definitely. Khan on the offence is pretty damn impressive, imo.

I think Ortiz could beat Maidana in a rematch. As for Khan, I'm not sure. I can't help but think one shot might land, not even flush, and that would be the start of the end.

I think khan would take him, its not like khans got a week punch and if you look how much his power has increased he has a good chance of sparking maidana early one.
