Re: Bernard Hopkins wants Danny Green

the only issue I have is that it has some of the ingredients to make it an ugly fight.
How so?toppity wrote:the only issue I have is that it has some of the ingredients to make it an ugly fight.
Hopkins can often be a spoiler. Holding and clinching while picking off his opponents. He isn't a stick and move exponent so much these days (perhaps never has), he often does what it takes to get the job done. Danny is a brawler, not really known for his boxing. Especially in the later rounds, when they are both tired, I can imagine a lot of hitting and holding, clinching and grabbing. Just an opinion though.keyboard warrior wrote:How so?toppity wrote:the only issue I have is that it has some of the ingredients to make it an ugly fight.
I wasn't sure, I thought Green had a good chance but thought RJJ would have just nicked it.amwsnw wrote:Mate just curious (honestly, I am not taking the piss) but did you pick Green or RJJ ??Roars Like Me wrote:Earn the money Green but you will be given a serious lesson by Hopkins - it will be of Pavlik proportions...
This is a good fight for Danny. Win, lose or draw I don't think he gets schooled !!
Of course, he doesn't go toe to toe as a rule - if you remember BHOP's first venture to LH against Tarver, he didn't stand in front of him, he just boxed him beautifully and made him look amateurish. Bare in mind Tarver also knocked out Jones for the 1st time not long before and also in a much more devastating way.amwsnw wrote:Mate I just think Greenies power is underestimated. Maybe not by us in Oz but elsewhere. When danny hit RJJ with a jab to the body, he got a reaction from RJJ. I cant remember seeing that from RJJ before. Bhop wont want to go toe to toe with Greenie. He could make it a very ugly fight which alot of the time can be a very close fight.
Green was too big, too young, too strong and too well prepared for Jones. Hopkins will underestimate him at his peril.toppity wrote:Hopkins can often be a spoiler. As of now, they are saying Hopkins will school Green and that he remains one of the best in the business.amwsnw wrote:be interesting to see what response this would get on "Current Scene"
Because it involves Bernard Hopkins.keyboard warrior wrote:How so?toppity wrote:the only issue I have is that it has some of the ingredients to make it an ugly fight.
He's not shot although he's undeniably past his bestoliverfennell wrote:As of now, they are saying Hopkins will school Green and that he remains one of the best in the business.amwsnw wrote:be interesting to see what response this would get on "Current Scene"
But you just KNOW, if Green beat him, he will suddenly be proclaimed "shot" and "undersized" (even though some are saying he'd be a valid opponent for Haye...)
"He's not shot but undeniably past his best" is fair comment and also how you could accurately describe Jones. Not even the Aussie fans claim Jones was at his best, but the US fans are conveniently forgetting he was still top 10 ranked and coming off a very, very sharp performance.bollox wrote:He's not shot although he's undeniably past his bestoliverfennell wrote:As of now, they are saying Hopkins will school Green and that he remains one of the best in the business.amwsnw wrote:be interesting to see what response this would get on "Current Scene"

A viable opponent for Haye?![]()

Since Jones beat Ruiz the floodgates have started to open a bit more re 160 / 175 pounders challenging HW's, and similar weight disparities amongst the lower weights (Pacman V Mundine anyone?). Ruiz was made for Jones (as was the then version of Holmes against Spinks)"He's not shot but undeniably past his best" is fair comment and also how you could accurately describe Jones. Hopkins for sure is past his best, but he has adapted his style for ultimate longevity and as a result, while he's no longer a formidable attacking force, he remains one of the most difficult boxers in the world to beat.
Re Hopkins-Haye, I kid you not - and more than a few are saying he'd beat Haye, too.
We will never see it so it's a matter of opinion. But although I'd have my money on Haye, I doubt it would be an anililation. Hopkins has mentioned moving to HV, and Haye is a CW gone up. I don't see it as a massive mis-match. Hopkins' defence is still working, the attack is gone to some degree, but I don't see anything in Haye's previous fights against those he has fought, that screams utter mismatch. Haye is not that good.bollox wrote:Since Jones beat Ruiz the floodgates have started to open a bit more re 160 / 175 pounders challenging HW's, and similar weight disparities amongst the lower weights (Pacman V Mundine anyone?). Hopkins would be annihilated against Haye. And whilst he's in hospital possibly fighting for his life some around here will be posting about how much money the fight made and how it was good for boxing
Tickets range was 55 to 1,000 bucks. The joint was half full...so where did all the millions fall from??toppity wrote:i thought it was common knowledge that it was a guaranteed min' 3 mill.....do you know different Anton?
I read somewhere that Fenech's family asked Azumah not to hurt Fenech. It seemed a bit absurd at the time but ????AntonS wrote:Tickets range was 55 to 1,000 bucks. Certainly not form OZ Main Event & US Versus
RJJ was co-promoter, so any reported Guarantee is absolute bullshit
In case you didn't realize, the fight was scripted along the line of recent Fenech/Nelson shindig, but Greeny, to make himself ultimate OZ hero, ditched the script so he could claim he stopped 'Legendary' RJJ
it was more than 1/2 full and I think PPV numbers and rights to the USA would have been decent. I also thought the State Government put up some cash.AntonS wrote:Tickets range was 55 to 1,000 bucks. Why does that sound familiarAntonS wrote:IMO, RJJ & Hopkins should retire & invent cookware that does stick![]()
