Clear enough Asterix ?
You can't be a football fan if you don't get it.
Roy Keane would love you.

Thanks, though i reckon most people get the jist of the Tevez poster, its Haye's take on it i'm struggling with.slapbangwhallop wrote:Jesus!!! The original poster was commision by Manchester City to have a pop and Manchester United for two reasons. A. Tevez switching from Man U to Man City. B. To have a pop at the sterotype that United fans are not actually from Manchester and are from Surrey or Ireland or Singapore - i.e. City are the real Manchester club and because Man City's ground is actually situated in Manchester City Council area whilst Old Trafford is in Trafford not Manchester.
I like the poster but I've already spoken to a number of "reds" whose first comment as "arséhole"davidas wrote:I dont think there is a message and its just a cool poster on the Tevez poster theme as he's fighting in Manchester and that poster of Tevez has recently been in the press thats it, over analysing here methinks!!!

actually like Terry says, in my expereince the city is about 50/50 in terms of its support - with pockets around the city being predominantly one or the other.
Actually if pushed I would say that there are more United supporters - and if you count surrounding towns are areas such as Wigan, north Cheshire, Glossop etc then United definately are in the majority (at the moment)rhino222 wrote:my parents are from manchester/salford. i would say that city actually have more supporters !! .... and im a utd fan !!sligobhoy67 wrote:naughty!!rhino222 wrote: did you go to surrey to ask them?

Its on the Hampshire-Surrey border - Guildford is a stones throw away! :geek2:rhino222 wrote:aldershot and farnborough are actually in hampshire, has your time at st omer barracks left you with amnesia carlos?...Carlos-Wigan wrote:Crystal Palace, Aldershot Town - erm - Farnborough Town!Asterix wrote:And thinking about it, who are people from Surrey supposed to support? Terry D wrote:To be fair Utd started off in Newton Heath and were, for a time, very much poor relations to City. There are links stretching back to Manchester but the location of the ground is now Greater Manchester.
United traditionally draws strong support in places like Gorton and, moving further down the 203 route, Beswick and Denton, whereas City drew a lot of support in Longsight and along the old Maine Road route.
Football is cyclical. At various times in their history both clubs have enjoyed peaks and troughs. United pulled away in recent times and as the game became global they picked up support both abroad and down the country. The inept handling of City in recent times has stunted their development but, and especially if the finances remain in place, we may one day see a lot of 'Cockney Blues' and United will be the grubby club beloved of working class heroes and wannabe socialists.
The Manchester streets themselves, and yes I mean the real Manchester here, run blue and red in fairly equal measures.
Also, I've stood in plenty of pubs chock full of Blues and Reds, a lot of the Mancunian fans will drink side-by-side and some of the best days in those pubs came after Manchester derbies. Fighting fans/hooligans are no different from the corporate fans, the football is secondary to both of them. Real fans can handle the presence of the other club and many City fans admit, or used to admit, that they wish they had been as well-managed as "(Greater) Manchester United!"
Except the mighty Burnley - even before their dramtic gatecrashing of the premiership - it took a brave local to tie their colours to the manyoo/scouse mast.whicker wrote:Terry D wrote:To be fair Utd started off in Newton Heath and were, for a time, very much poor relations to City. Good post there.
(Big time) Football isn't a local game now anyway. Players, owners, managers and even fans come from all over the world.
In towns where the local club isn't so good, many locals won't support that team anyway.
I'm neither.Captain Hook wrote:twenty six wrote:80% of MUFC fans eat prawn sarnies and come from Surrey.

BoxRec fans, more like. This place fields more whinging than a Primetime call centre operative on the night of Froch-Dirrell.Asterix wrote:I'm not really much of a football fan, no. It's a famous picture and slogan. Haye is fighting in Manchester. He copied the image and slogan for instant recognition. It's really not that difficult.ALI wrote:Thanks, though i reckon most people get the jist of the Tevez poster, its Haye's take on it i'm struggling with.slapbangwhallop wrote:Jesus!!! Anyone care to break down in layman's terms exactly what Haye's message is?
Well, football fans can have the most skewed perception on reality and perspective, like the lifelong Hatton fans who suddenly wanted him to lose because he "dared" to be friends with Rooney. FFS, get a life, it's a game, that's it.sligobhoy67 wrote:I like the poster but I've already spoken to a number of "reds" whose first comment as "arséhole"davidas wrote:I dont think there is a message and its just a cool poster on the Tevez poster theme as he's fighting in Manchester and that poster of Tevez has recently been in the press thats it, over analysing here methinks!!!
