Ezz,

I think Chavez, in the early 140 days, was as good or very nearly so as he'd ever been.

Do feel you're being a bit harsh, mate.

Chavez fought everyone. The only guy missing off his record was Azumah Nelson. What a fight that would have been.

Fighters like Haugen were considered immovable objects at the time.

He struggled a little with Laporte and Lockridge but (1) they were world class fighters and (2) I believe he was struggling to make 130.

I've never accused him of ducking anyone and I never said he was easy to discourage. Laporte, Lockridge, Whitaker, Taylor & randall all refused to be bullied. I look at Chavez a lot like Tyson, except I watched Julio receive three humongous gifts via corruption. Harsh? I suppose that depends on who is reading it. I could be wrong and he was every bit as great as the majority thinks he was, that is something we will never find out. But I'm quite comfortable in picking Pryor over him in a competitive, yet one sided flogging.

As for Haugen, he was a tough guy. Nobody expected him to cause Chavez any kind of trouble. I'm not calling JCC a club fighter. Just don't think he could beat Pryor.

With Haugen it was that he was tough. I was just trying to say here's a guy who won't yield but got blown away anyway.

I don't believe that Taylor fight was a gift. Whittaker obviously. But in almost all cases Chavez was moving up a weight. Very hard for a swarmer.

Just to give the Pernell fight a bit of context (okay, I'll admit it my own slant) Chavez was way above his best weight and had lost a beat. He maybe nicked 4 rounds in the fight in Whittaker's best ever display. Pernell had barely lost a round up to that point as this was him at his most focused. Add to that too that Whittaker was probably the best fighter of his era.

Chavez was favored over Whitaker, that's kind of like how tyson's prime ended when he stepped in the ring with Douglas. Julio wasn't at all competitive against Whitaker and I don't think he ever would have been.

The Taylor fight is of two different camps and I'm sure we have all voiced our opinions ad- nausea.

The worst was the quitting victory over Randall imo. He was clearly losing and that was like a complete set up as the doctor said he was fine and then he refused to fight like he already knew the judges cards. Randall owned him and he was older than Chavez.

I agree 100%

Whitaker's best weight wasn't Welter either, though, Ezz.

How Saad thinks a fight will be, "competitive, yet a one-sided flogging," is beyond me, but it sounds about right from someone who imagines Chavez struggles to win a battle of wills with world-class opponents.

Chavez wasn't known for his heart Image

After taking a look at some fight films from both of these guys, I'd say Taylor would not be drawn into a foolish fight with Aaron, and win a close but certain UD. He would have all the answers for what Aaron would bring.

I have another question, Would Pryor be allowed to drink from the blue bottle or not?
Of course. He was willing to fight Leonard who was better than both Taylor and Chavez. Pryor would've got in the ring with Hearns who he beat in the amatuers. Taylor is a smart fighter but I believe he would try to outfight Pryor which is always the wrong answer if you're 140 and under. I say Pryor frustrates Chavez as Chavez won't be able to hurt him as much as he thinks but Pryor is robbed of the victory courtesy of Don King Productions.
