should cleverly target erdei, a very good boxer who's getting on a bit and coming down in weight after a gruelling win for the WBC cruiserweight title?
Interesting situation re Braehmer - he has appealed and is scheduled to fight and defend his title on April 24th it will be interesting to see his opponent because the Germans won't want to lose the title when it becomes vacant so I wonder if they will let Erdei face off with Braehmer so as they at least either keep it or get Erdei in a vacant belt fight if Braehmer goes down after the appeal.
Don't think Cleverly beats Cloud to be honest and he certainly ain't beating Dawson or Pascal, in my book anyway, although I think he has done terrific to do it the old school way Briti/Comm/Euro, few defences and another year down the line things may look very different.

i think that while he won't have the beating of those top guys yet (and he should bloody well stay away from robbed WBA champ campillo, a terrific southpaw), the scene is always changing, and an opening, however measly, usually crops up somewhere.
looks like the WBO title is maybe tied up for a while then. looks like a good time to get cleverly up to th enext level. but that is always the problem. if he is close to a title shot, then promoters don't risk losing their spot, even if it means the fighter doesn't learn the extra things vs good opponents.
who's the next european contender in line?

I have to say I think people need to chill out on the proposed Bellew Cleverly fight. Im pretty sure frank will have Nathan vacate his british title and im also sure Frank will try and get Bellew a shot for it.
I wonder if people would be clamouring for it if Tony wasnt posting on here.

Few in line have commitments Erdei and Campillo etc cannot see Murat wanting to come to the uk but interestingly Oakey is ranked high enough for a shot if they want to give it to him.
My guess would be the Pole (loads of tickets to sell over here) Dawid Kostecki or perhaps Thierry Karl who moved upto light heavy last year but strangely has been knocking everyone out at light-heavy so that might be a no no. Another likely candidate is Vitaly Rusal who Huck demolised last year. Rachid Kanfouah is another who will be considered.

WBO?
Forget that and go after a more prestigious belt.
WBC/WBA/IBF
I think he can go a long way in the sport, but hopefully he does not go the WBO route and defend against handpicked limited fighters. If he does then I will give up on him.
As of now any champion that does not fight the best is not a champion in my eyes...and that includes PBF (not that anyone cares).

I am yet to see Tony throw a punch, but read a good piece in Boxing Monthly a while back and he looks and sounds the part.
Nathan is only going to get better so yes I think that Fwank will get him to vacate the british and possibly the commonwealth.

Cleverly continues to look better in every fight. My only concern is that he is still being trained by his father last I heard
Nothing against his Dads methods. But they were previously deemed unsufficient, and he went to the Calzaghe gym .. where he showed great improvement. Then the fall-out with fWank and Calzaghe .. and Cleverly is back with his father.
The sparring with Joe will have brought him on massive amounts. But I think he needs an experienced trainer now with experience of working with guys mixing in world class .. tactics can play an ever so big part then, and to keep him learning.
Sadly, with the situation of Khan taking on Roach .. and then Roach possibly being an influence in taking Khan across the water .. I can`t see fWank being too keen on getting Cleverly a top U.S. trainer ..

Hmmm, tough fight, I think. I saw Murat sparring Kessler and he looks good. Cleverly will have a lot of reach on him, though. He'd have to fight better defensively than normal.

Vince Cleverly is more than competant to take Nathan All the way, he has been around champion boxers longer than he cares to remember. He was highly thought of and still is by Enzo and was Enzo's right hand man for years. What better person to look after a fighter than his dad (Ask Joe)

Murat would be a tough fight and a big test for him at this stage. If he passes that we can start to talk about him as a legit top level contender, I reckon. Murat is no chump.

murat's a decent fighter. steve holdsworth commentated on one of his fights, i believe it was in spain. i think it was a short fight, 4 or 6 rounder. murat was out of shape, looked poor. holdsworth dismisses him as rubbish and says "he's going nowhere." murat has come on well since then. become a good european champion and holds a win over former WBA light heavyweight champ campillo.
cleverly v murat is a very good fight. but these fights tend not to happen (moore-baysangureov, perhaps macklin-pirog). i thought murat was eying up some kind of IBF elim. i know, he just missed the boat, with the glen johnson-yusaf mack fight happening. it was rumoured murat was going to fight mack, but he didn't get the fight. that's the thing, if you have a good record, a big promoter and are promising, then you don't fight a fellow prospect; you grab the world title elim instead.
i hope clev v murat happens.

the article says he'd fight murat for a world title!
he woiuldn't defend the EBU title against him. he'd fight a fellow prospect-contender, in other words, only for the highest reward.
murat may be WBO mandatory, but braehmer has some claim to the title and zsolt erdei - who defended the bloody belt about 10x before vacating it, but now probably wants it back - likely gets fast tracked into another shot.
come on, we won't see cleverly v murat any time soon. universum has the title. i bet we're more likely to see braehmer v murat.

I meant no disrespect to Cleverlys Dad. I`m sure he has worked with champion boxers - but very few with the potential his son is showing.
And lets be fair - as good as Enzo Calzaghe is at doing what he does .. he is a tad over-rated in the whole `trainer of the year` thingy
Joe Calzaghe was an exceptional tallent(braces himself for serious flack from Gomez) and I`m sure if his mother was training him he would have achieved the same. Though to mix it with the big guns across the water I just think without somebody with more experience of working with real top class champions he may be found wanting.
Cleverly is head and shoulders above anybody in Britain at the moment. Though the likes of Cloud, Johnson, Dawson and even Pascal I feel would be that little bit too much for him at the moment.

He gets beaten easily by them now, very easy.

I thought Cleverly looked terrific on Saturday and his power has improved remarkably since the first couple of years of his career. I remember watching him at ringside on the undercards of the Calzaghe v Manfredo and Calzaghe v Kessler fights and commenting to my mate that while he has great potential I couldn't see him reaching top level because of his lack of power. Seems that since he left the Calzaghe stable he has really been working less on throwing a million punches a round and more on carefully picking his shots and throwing them with power.
I think Cleverly v Bellew would be a potentially fantastic fight in 2 or 3 years time. I think Cleverly will likely vacate the British title now and let's hope Bomber gets a shot at it because from what I've seen he is definitely better than any other British light heavy. It is difficult to compare him to Cleverly at the moment because Cleverly has been campaigning at a slightly higher level. That said, in a couple of years time we could have two Brits fighting for a world title which would be fantastic

I don`t think its fair to knock the Calzaghe camp for his lower stoppage ratio back then. Its far more likely he has just developed physically .. after all he only turned 23yrs old yesterday or today. I would imagine his strength will only increase in the next couple of years also ... watch out then Bomber .. you might just get what your asking for
