some looked good too, there was a chick fight
Dont know mate, stay tuned after Vic's fight, maybe they'll show 1 or 2 then
Team Zappa tried to make him lose the remaining 3 and half pounds and get back on the scales, apparently Angulo could only lose a half a poundTinnie wrote:I thought it was alot closer than the cards suggested, at the bell i was expecting either guy to win by about a round or possibly split decision. I had Lenny winning the first 4 rounds and lets not forget Angulo was deducted a point.
Yes he needs to improve his jab, especially if he hopes to land the straight right.
This is the first chance i've had to have a good look at him, i was very impressed with that murderous left hook of his. For a guy that likes to push the action he also suprised me early on with quite good counter-punching.
On another note...
The commentators kept harping on about how Zappa's team embaressed Angulo at the weigh-in. Anyone know the story behind this?
Mate i just watched again as i thought i might of been influenced by the 2 commentators who suggested it was a shutout to Lenny after 5(Tarver had it 48-47 Zappa), i still think Zappa's power was far greater in the first 5 rounds and landed the far better shots, rounds 4 and 5 being close with the all out exchanges, but in Lennys favour(no weight being factored, just pure ability).perfect jet wrote:Absolute rubbish. Coming in overweight should be penalised by shitty scorecards? really? Angulo was penalised in that he could win the fight but not the title.
First five rounds to Lenny? please. Angulo took him to school after three rds and had Lenny missing all night. 9-3 Angulo, 8-4 at worse.
btw, Angulo was three pounds overweight, not three kilos.
You know you kind of kicked up a stink, and kind of made the excuse(weight being the issue) when Angulo beat Ganoy inside 4.Angulo being only a half a pound over weight as opposed to the 3 and half for Lenny.perfect jet wrote:Absolute rubbish. I'm rather surprised PJ that you don't agree that fighters shouldn't be punished for making weight when others don't. 20% of a purse is F#ck all if it sets you up for a major payday for the next fight.
Here you go again, it was actually 3/4 of a pound, hardly 3 and half pounds.http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxerperfect jet wrote:Hounddawg wrote:You know you kind of kicked up a stink, and kind of made the excuse(weight being the issue) when Angulo beat Ganoy inside 4.Angulo being only a half a pound over weight as opposed to the 3 and half for Lenny.perfect jet wrote:Absolute rubbish. Please show me where I used Angulo's weight as an excuse for Ranee getting knocked out. I'd love to read something I never wrote. Yes, I did mention Angulo was over...and he wasn't a pound over for Ganoy he was 138 from memory.
Actually, others used Angulo's weight to counter the fact Ranee lost. I posted on numerous boards that the reason Ranee was beat was because he had a brain snap and lost the plot. I even went further and said that Ranee was the house fighter in that he was signed by the promoter, that Angulo had 15 days notice for the fight whilst Ranee was training for about 7 weeks, that Ranee arrived in Sth Africa ten days before the bout, Angulo got there three days before.
And I was making excuses for Ganoy???
Here you go again...where did I say fighters shouldn't be penalised for not making weight? Angulo was penalised...I'd say he lost a % of his purse and guess what...that would hurt him because I doubt he made more than 20k for that fight. He also competed in a fight where a title was at stake but not for him. Since Angulo's contract with Don King has now expired, don't you think a title would have been leverage when trying to get a deal with another promoter?
The kid won the fight, got screwed by the judges and goes home without a belt. Another loss on his record, three L's in a row now. That means his days of getting a tv fight in the states and a decent payday by his standards are almost certainly over.
I think he was penalised enough.
Your hardly the go to man for the facts are you. 3/4 of a pound is pretty close imo, if he went and took a piss he would of made weight.perfect jet wrote:Angulo has done it again...came in at 138, three pounds over!perfect jet wrote:* Change of opponent for Zappa
Zappa takes on Ganoy conqueror Fernando Angulo on the showtime card in March. Vics fight is elevated to main event and Lenny is the co-feature. Dirrell pulled out of his S6 fight with Abraham because of a back injury.
So both Vic and Lennys fights will be shown on mainevent. Angulo is an experienced guy with a tricky style and is pretty tough. He iced Ganoy when Ranee walked on to a right hand. H has gone 12 rds with Juan Diaz.
Not an easy fight for Lenny but here's the thing...Angulo is a serial offender when it comes to not making weight. He was way over for Ganoy and never got close to making weight in his fight after that on the Nate/Funeka undercard.
I'm guessing Angulo wouldn't have had much notice for this fight...the IBO belt became vacant with the death of the sth african fighter who held it. So I'm doubtful of Angulo making 135.
It's a test for Lenny, especially if he has to go 12 rds with Angulo. But he is going well and can win it if everything falls in to place. Good luck to Zappa.
Unreal. So that's 3 out of his last 5 fights where he hasn't got close to making weight. And in the process he has blown a chance at an IBF #2 spot and an IBO title.
