How many times does the man have to get beaten up before it is recognised that he isn't a championship calibre fighter?
Did beating Derry Matthews who had been stopped in three of his last four justify Lawton getting this title shot?
No
Is he going to get hurt?
Quite possibly, the Board of 'Control' should have vetoed this. I hope I'm wrong but I fear the worst
Total disgrace, all the guts in the world but Lawton had no right being in there, the BBBoC and EBU want to hang their heads in shame over this travesty
His corner need to look at themselves too, why the hell did his corner send him out for the third
Horrible spectacle, hope the lads okay, he was clearly concussed in the after fight interview

EXactly surely when the cornerman were speaking and working with him at the end of the second they could c he was away, its not like hes a huge puncher and there giving him a round to try and bang him out, they sent him back to the wolves disgusting.

What a total disgrace, by his cornermen. Fighters will always hang in there, you put faith in your cornermen/trainer. They are mean't to look after the fighters interests. A case of 'brave cornermen'

He was gone in the first round well out of his depth! Leva did it much quicker than Khan, Murray or Thaxton.

All the above softened him up, for such a tall bloke the drop to 130 was always going to find him out especially at the age of 33.

Well done m8! Not very often I go in large but I was certain about tonight, the last one was a Khan KO against Salita @ 4/5

Lawton was obliterated and his corner & referee need to give themselves a shake.
Hatton promotions perhaps thought they were doing Scott a favour, but as the fight unfolded i bet they thought 'oh poo'.

Lawton has great bollocks for a fight and comes to the ring super fit.
Johanneson (and you can forgive him) froze like a rabbit in the headlights second time. Lawton has no reason to be psychologically "beat" before he steps in.
If he can get the Russian breathing heavy and take him a few rounds there's no reason at all why he can't pull this off.

good for you. Personally betting hundreds of quid isn't for me but whatever works for you. My prediction was based on precisely 2 viewings of Kirakosyan (CJx2) and I believed using his fitness Lawton may have been able to do something. Lawton has only lost to good quality fighters. Obviously I was wrong.

Had a bit of evens, but it was horrible to see. Lawton's cornermen should hang their head in shame and Sky should never have interviewed him in that state. It wouldn't have taken a lot to work out he was 'gone' when they sat him down to do the interview

Got the round correct. Was initially going to put on rounds 1-3 but thought lawton would at least get a round in so takne rounds 2 and 3. 12/1 I got paid! Not quite putting on 'bigped' sized stakes though!

i suppose whilst these mismatches get made, people will rinse out the bookies.
Although a few people though Scott could pull it off beforehand based on Lera being older and recently outboxed. Hindsight eh ?

never liked this fight from when it was announced. lawton did not look strong at 130 v matthews, and vs a puncher like kirakosyan it was an awful idea.
i didn't even need to read the results last night, as it was clear what was going to happen.

This corner shouldn't have let him out for the 3rd round,he was clearly showing the effects

very very poor corner work last night didn't seem to even notice that he was totally gone. Also in my opinion poor refereeing nothing wrong with the standing 8 count but more letting the fight continue have to be totally blind to not see he was totally done. Not only did he stagger into the corner at the end of the second he also staggered out for the third did the referee even check on him in between rounds.
Felt a bit sorry for Lawton last night as brave as they come but think its time to hang them up if not stay away from that level where he doesn't belong.
Also hope he was still concussed in the post fight interview as was slurring very badly. Shouldn't have interviewed him so soon afterwards but think they didn't realise how groggy he was a mistake that can be forgiven however no excuse for cornerwork and referee playing with a mans well being there.
Understand boxing is a tough sport but kirakosyan made it pretty clear he was a class above early doors.

Why this fight ever went ahead I will never know . What it does show is the bridge in gap between european level and our domestic level . It also makes you realise the level the top boys are playing at because Kirakosyan cant cut it at that level .

Well, it IS easy to be wise after the event, as mentioned on the other thread.
I think pre-fight there were some thoughts that Kirakosyan was "on the slide." Look at , for example, the last 5 opponents he had.
Sometimes a smart matchmaker can bring in a well know but faded "opponent" at just the right time.
This clearly wasn't the case on Friday, though.
The other point, of course- why is a boxer who was unsuccessful at British level fighting for the European title... well, thats just boxing.
