was there had great time, guzman funny guy, loves the sport as you could see when got the amatuer kids in the ring for shadow boxing etc, great to see one of the most talented fighters train in person

Why on earth has a New York based p4p guy signed with an obscure British trainer?

Am i not the only person who finds this completely bizarre?

Beard is also unbeaten whilst being the sole trainer. About 30 fights or so over 6 or 7 fighters.

I went along, it was a cracking afternoon, but I do have some concerns. Firstly, was this his second session of the day, and as such a fun workout, because at no point did he over exert himself, and when he did get tired he seemed to revert to “having a laugh” a little dance, or pushing the heavy bag then avoiding it as it swung back. Was this just a public fun workout, his second session of the day, or is this his training style?
I also have concerns over the tactical aspect of the training, nothing was done that worked on anything aside from throwing shots or moving nicely. Beard is very good on the pads, and I know myself how fun the pads are in comparison with hitting a bag, or a speed ball, however, it seemed to be bang – bang – bang – duck – bang- duck- body shot. Lovely, looks great, but are they working on anything to nullify Funaka too? When people talk about beard the first thing that comes to mind is “supposed to be great on the pads” . At the top level you need more than that, and if they’re not giving Guzman that he’ll come unstuck.
Positives. What he does do he does really well, his footwork and movement were fantastic, he also played to the crowd. Some for the body shots they worked on looked sickening, the type you wouldn’t see coming, an uppercut to the deep stomach. Kerry Kays appeared and Guzman spoke to him briefly, you could sense the respect joan had for him, which was refreshing considering his past weight making issues. Hopefully Kerry will have that part boxed off. Joan also stopped to shake hands, have photos with and sign things for everyone who attended. The rare opportunity to see a true p4p fighter, meet him, speak to him and watch him close up in action.

You seem to be the only person on here who has a problem with me.Why will i get banned? For daring to suggest your hero isnt the best thing since sliced bread? This must be the first time ever i will be supporting the foreign fighter(at least he is half english) against one of our lads,and that is mainly down to you.

How do you know who i have supported?I followed Joe's career since seeing him at York in one of his early fights and have been to several since,including the Lacy and Kessler bouts.I follow most U.K boxers and will go anywhere for a decent match up.As for having "a big problem" with me,why?There is plenty on here sick to death of your boring attempts to make Froch sound a lot more popular than he actually is.Only a few weeks ago you called one of our disputes harmless internet banter.Your convinced im some huge fan of Calzaghe and Khan when in reality im just fecking sick of your one sided rants.Your the troll,god help you WHEN your mate gets beat

I make a contribution to news, pictures and things going on in boxing. Like the rest of the forum users, i have an opinion - one that is shared by a lot of people who don't have a blinkered view or who swallow everything they read.

you dont make any sense at all, i spoke to lee, they had trained twice that day already and it was for abit fun for public to see him,

you say no tactical stuff being worked on, did it seem like a full training session, guzman playing , shadow boxing with the amatuer kids, laughing and dancing, !!!!

you didnt think no tactics being worked on, they work 10-15 minutes on movement , side to side and going under funekas shot hitting the body, couldnt you see that,!!!!

How do I not make sense, you tell me which part of my post doesn’t make sense and I’ll explain it to you. I asked a civil question “was this his second session of the day” – all you needed to say was – yes it was, and that’s why he was playing to the crowd and dancing around.

I then asked IF tactics were being worked on outside of this sessions because IF they weren’t there are concerns. For the record ducking under shots, and moving from side to side does not constitue set gameplan tactics for a big fight. I do that in training every day without a fight being lined up. The stuff Lee was doing with joan looked like the sort of stuff fighters do to become comfortable ducking under naturally and moving laterally naturally.

You say im being negative for no reason. My opening line is “it was a cracking afternoon”. I then asked two questions which required simple answers of “yes it was his second session” – in which case the fact he wasn’t over exerting makes perfect sense. And then “yes Lee has been working on certain aspects of the first Funeka fight behind closed doors” (even throw in a such as….).

It seems you’ve read my post quickly and looked on it negatively when all I was doing was complementing the guys for having the open session and asking some questions / concerns. This is an opinion forum and subjective opinions are what its all about.

Don’t forget, not everyone has this inside knowledge having spoken to Lee, some people turned up watched and went home. That’s all they saw, and all they know.
