Re: Harroon Khan will compete for Pakistan from now on NOT UK!

I don't think its a disgrace, if he can get to a higher level competing for Pakistan then good for him
...or because he'll do anything he can to get to the Olympics. How many English footballers switch their allegiance when it becomes clear they won't make the national side? When Owen Hargreaves was fit and playing well his country of birth was irrelevent to most over here. My opinion is that you should do what you can to reach the highest level you can with the circumstances you find yourself in - which is exactly what Haroon is doing. Good luck to him.hitman_hatton1 wrote:he's spitting the dummy out and fighting for pakistan cos he's not in on merit.

This topic comes up often - and the hip-hop-crisy is usually the same. So I have a post saved the I bang out that usually puts it all in perspective!JamesH wrote:...or because he'll do anything he can to get to the Olympics. If all four of your Grand parents were Mexican and your Dad was born there you probably could! what's not fair about it? Its a bit of a joke this thread to be fair.Nel wrote:Younger brother of flawed boxer, Amir Khan has snubbed Britain and has decided to instead compete for Pakistan in all future events.
Is this fair, since he was born in UK and so were his parents (i think). My grandad is Mexican, doesn't mean I can go and compete for them.

Either you're very old or I don't watch much sport, I hardly recognise any of those names although to be fair a considerable amount seem to be cricket or rugby neither of which I can be arsed with.slapbangwhallop wrote:This topic comes up often - and the hip-hop-crisy is usually the same. It goes a liddle sumtin like dis -
To be fair you started it all with KS Ranjitsinhji! I am still struggling to figure out how John Barnes (football), Greg Rusedski (tennis), Kevin Pietersen (cricket), Ted Bami (boxing), Graeme Hick (cricket), Matt Stevens (rugby union), Andrew Caddick (cricket), Graeme LeSaux (football), Terry Butcher (football), Matt LeTissier (football), Matt Banahan (rugby union), Brian Stein (football), John Salako (football), Tony Dorigo (football) Luther Blissett (football), Rob Jones (football), Gordon Hodgson (football), Joe Baker (football). Steve Lambert (football) Colin Viljoen (football), Dylan Hartley (rugby union), Peter Nicol (squash), Cyrille Regis (football), Allan Lamb (cricket), Germaine Mason (athletics), Tony Greig (cricket), Zola Budd (athletics), Robin Smith (cricket), Lee Dickson (rugby union), Tim Ambrose (cricket), Pat Barnard (rugby union), Jonathan Trott (cricket), Matt Prior (cricket), Lesley Vainikolo (rugby league and union), Alexander Obolensky (rugby union), Owen Hargreaves (football), Clinton McKenzie (boxing), Takaloo (boxing), Riki Flutey (boxing), Mike Catt (rugby union), Henry Paul (rugby union), Luol Deng (basketball), Olga Butkevich (olympic wrestling) and Linford Christie (athletics) all qualify for ye.
And what about "English cricketers" Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan! And good old Lenaxe! Never threw a punch in England before he won the Olympics for Canada all of a sudden becomes Britains world champion!
If he wants to compete for Pakistan then that's fine with me! However, if he wants to do this, send him their to live in Pakistan! That's NOT a racist comment either before the OTT PC brigade start!Nel wrote:Younger brother of flawed boxer, Amir Khan has snubbed Britain and has decided to instead compete for Pakistan in all future events.

Yes but they earn their money in a country other than the nation they participate for on an international level.Nel wrote:None of them names play for a different country than there home nation. I was unaware Haroon hadn't tried /had the option of trying to qualify for the GB team.hitman_hatton1 wrote:but he stuck it out and went thru the qualifiers.black panther wrote:Big deal. Andre Berto didn't make the US squad so represented Haiti in the Olympics.
he didn't just sod off 2 and a half yrs before the olympics even start.
i'd say to haroon to try and qualify for the gb team.
don't be so impatient.
Because he was born in Britain, milked the British system, lives pretty much a celebrity lifestyle which has been attained from British people and he has learned all his boxing from British trainers, in British gyms.slapbangwhallop wrote:Yes but they earn their money in a country other than the nation they participate for on an international level.Nel wrote:None of them names play for a different country than there home nation. As I asked above - you said it was an "utter disgrace" - why is it an utter disgrace?

How has he "milked" the British system? He's a kid from a working class family ffs!Nel wrote:Because he was born in Britain, milked the British system, lives pretty much a celebrity lifestyle which has been attained from British people and he has learned all his boxing from British trainers, in British gyms.slapbangwhallop wrote:Yes but they earn their money in a country other than the nation they participate for on an international level.Nel wrote: None of them names play for a different country than there home nation. If thats a working class family i'd love to see an upper class family! The kid grew up in a fornicating mansion with all the money in the world, its hardly working class.demolitiondaley wrote:How has he "milked" the British system? They are minted because of Amir's boxing not because of their class, the Dad came over here to work that makes them working class. They weren't born into money.Nel wrote:If thats a working class family i'd love to see an upper class family!
