On a serious note - just for a change - I take the points concerning journalists being at the call of their editors - but only when you are at the lower end of the scale - I remain totally and utterly convinced if the likes of Sheehan, Bunce, Lillis, Lewis etc etc want to write about boxing then their articles would get in their relevant paper.

Ron Lewis I think it is - is unfortunate - I say unfortunate for us to be writing for one of them "clever" papers they call broadsheets never understood why - but he regulalry gets a lot of relevant stuff in - if he can do it - why cant others??

To be fair Bunce often writes about boxing in the Independent. There was a great piece he did on Oliver McCall a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoyed it, but I think he did well getting it in a national daily.

Tell him the how Boxrec database works so he can take the 30secs it just took me to find out how many times at least Ruiz has hit the canvas.

"I remain totally and utterly convinced if the likes of Sheehan, Bunce, Lillis, Lewis etc etc want to write about boxing then their articles would get in their relevant paper..."
**************

Not always that easy, unfortunately. I was boxing correspondent of the Daily Telegraph for 6 years to 2006, but it didn't give me any great advantage and I certainly couldn't dictate to anybody. You rang in with your story, the sports news desk guy listened, and depending on how interested he was (and a lot of that was down to whether or not he had heard of whoever it was you wanted to write about) he gave you the number of words he wanted. If it was 300 or less you knew you were in trouble, it could turn out to be a filler by the end of the day. I once interviewed Chris Eubank exclusively, at his request, in Claridge's for 2 hours. I came away with what I thought was a brilliant piece that might even make a centre page feature at a weekend, rang in - and they weren't interested. I filed a piece and attempted to persuade them that people would be interested in it, but it never saw light of day. Very embarrassing but it's just the way it works.

Clearly not, but I guarantee that the next time the story comes up he'll say, "I remain totally and utterly convinced if the likes of Sheehan, Bunce, Lillis, Lewis etc etc want to write about boxing then their articles would get in their relevant paper..."

I'd put the ranch on it.

well tell him from us........and lets keep it decent.....

that he is a sponging ill informed boxing parasite, who uses the system for his own gain, i cannot ever remember reading a decent well researched and accurate piece from him. He should be ashamed to show himself at any boxing bill, and rightly deserves all of the ridicule he gets on here. And im glad he reads it, its always nice to know what a chopper you are and what the public thinks of you.

Bob,

My respectful reply to you is that I know of you quite well and in addition I know how extremely passionate you are about the sport and in addition how much work you have done on a consistent basis behind the scenes - please accept my respectful apologies for tarring you with the same brush as some journalists who are clever with their words and make out their passion for the sport but in reality have done f*ck all about it - its wrong of me to put you, Bunce, Lewis and Lillis anywhere near that hideous group of people.

A sparring partner of mine on this very forum - the horrible Fennell - has I will concede done a lot of his own work behind the scenes.

Do I remain consistent that journalists as a group of so called professionals who have a so called passion for the sport of boxing done enough to shout about in articles - I honestly believe the answer is no - I am not stating that to inflame a situation here its my honest believe - myself and Rhino at Williams/Klitschko saw some reporters even turn up without a pen and paper!!! - but I am willing to bet they stayed in a nice casino - got their gloves signed and expenses claims in!!!!! I could give examples of that happening at Hatton/Urango and in addition Hatton/Castillo!!!

I fully expected the journalists to come out and fight their corner as some arrogant gobby sh*t such as myself as dared to question their passion for the sport - perhaps if they were as passionate about boxing as they are in shouting me down on this very forum then the fans would go back to them instead of relying on the excellent boxrec writers and boxing s c ene.

I will state again and lets get a bit of realism here - its wrong of me to insult journalists but I honestly not enough is being done to lobby for the sport of boxing to be written about in our papers - expecially the tabloids - dare I say it the broadsheets shame the tabloids as they seem to get more in their papers than the tabloids - wait for the answer back - because they have more space - my reply back to that one is that its f*cking sad boxing is playing second fiddle to f*cking toffs prancing around on their horses (dressage), tiddliwinks, and invariably some goofy c*nt who has just caught a big fish!!! - we might then get a bit of variety and someone will tell us about Tennis - a sport we have consistently failed in and that silly miserable **** in Scotland still hasnt won a slam but yet boxing despite having numerous WORLD champions is still regarded as the minority of all minority sports.

Rant over - over to some clever c*nt journalist to think he has shot me down in flames - but I will bang the drum of boxing until I get my way and - in addition I will plant my rather bulbous and over grown forehead on the nose of any bone idle Editor who doesnt like boxing the first opportunity I get.
