I once read a book about a bar in thiland (stick with me on this one) that had midgets in velcro suits and you could throw them onto a big material wall making them stick.

"Dont tell my mother I work on the rigs. She thinks ima piano player ina whore house" was the book.

If i was convicted of attacking anyone let alone my wife who in his case weighs about 100 lbs, i know i would loose my job thats for sure, why shouldn't he?

I`ve seen it on TV. It`s like a version of midget darts. Quite entetaining actually.

Do feel a bit sorry for the midget, but then again, it`s maybe the only way they can earn any coin ou there. Bit like dwarf ten pin bowling.

Bygones.
DIRT SUGAR wrote:So you're saying if Ricky Hatton had put his partner in hospital and punctured her lung and was found guilty of such an offence, do you think he deserves the right to fight without any form of punishment or ban?
I would hope that people would boycott Hatton's future fights if he behaved like that, but I don't think he should be banned for it.
DIRT SUGAR wrote:I think any boxer found guilty of using his fists outside of hours should be made explain themselves to their requisite boxing authority. Whether that happens is obviously another story and just because so and so did this and so and so did that doesn't matter.
If boxers are misbehaving outside of the ring then I think it should be for the law to punish them not the boxing authorities. But, this is just my opinion.

Oh come on Wales we're talking physical violence here. A boxer getting done for say shop-lifting or say fraud and someone beating his wife to a pulp and puncturing his wife's lung is hardly comparable is it.

And I would have thought any boxer who has done time would have to attend a board meeting to get his licence back anyhow.

Are you saying that anyone with a criminal record or who commits an offence deserves a licence to box without any kind of need to explaining past disgressions because from what I know having criminal record does have an effect on a person's ability to work.

If we're going to put it that way let's take it a step further. Would you let a bloke whose been done for abusing his children box?

As long as he was dreadfully overmatched and the ref was blind and deaf, I wouldn`t mind.

Its not comparable, of course its not, they're different offences. But it has to be a rule, and not ifs and buts, otherwise its going to be another misty foggy aspect of boxing. If we dont have black and white its down to interpretation.
I might think selling cocaine = fine to box on. But punching a woman isnt fine to box. Then you'd get the father of a child who has died form taking cocaine saying "hang on a minute" ... its down to interpretation.
I know boxers have to go in front of the board to get a liscence back after being convicted of an offence. But I dont think Valero will have much trouble finding a state or commission that will allow him to fight after his time is spent.

Are you saying a person who is convicted of assaulting a woman should never be employed again, period?

Actually, is there a law anywhere that states time spent criminals must be treated fairly with regards to employment or anything?

I'm not an expert on rights to work but I think any fighter who has spent time in prison or been convicted has no automatic right to earn money through the sport of boxing and the more serious the crime, the harder it 'should' be for them to be licenced. They should at least have to plead their case to the board and prove they are or give insurances they are not of a residivist nature – or at least not a danger to the public for God's sake! If found guilty I don't think Edwin Valero has any place in the sport. That's my final point on the matter as we could just go on forever. Good debate though.

I didn't know anything about that - tell us more?
I'd like to hear more too. I had read that he had bone chips removed from beneath his scalp after a motorbike accident so that's why he argued that it was not a brain injury and he should not be banned.

I disagree. His personal life should not effect his right to box.
So you think he should still be allowed to box professionally from prison?

I think Hurlock heard/read about Valero's problems after the accident decided to take the story one step further. I've never heard of Valero having an "imbalance" in his brain.
On February 5, 2001, Valero was involved in a severe motorcycle accident in which he wasn't wearing a helmet. He fractured his skull and had surgery to remove a blood clot. This injury was sustained prior to him launching his pro career, and it has created roadblocks to major bodies sanctioning his fights. Valero claims that his Venezuelan doctor cleared him to fight on January 17, 2002, and he turned pro that July with a first-round KO.

Valero appeared to hit the jackpot when he was signed after his 12th pro fight by Golden Boy Promotions. Valero was scheduled to appear on HBO's Boxing After Dark, but in January 2004, he failed an MRI due to brain scan irregularities in New York and thus was not allowed to fight in the United States. As a result, the fight did not take place. He has continued to fight outside the US, and, as of March 25, 2008, Valero was cleared to box in the state of Texas.
Emphasis mine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Vale ... roadblocks
