I want to add that I do not think that Tyson was a coward. No individual who has had success in the ring could be one. I will also point out that Tyson took quite a bit of punishment in his bout with Buster Douglas. But it was evident that Tyson was ill-prepared for that bout, getting hit with many punches which he usually blocked or slipped during his prime years.

What fights were those?

Holyfield was quite popular throughout his career and was involved in far more memorable fights than Tyson. You seem to be trying to verbalize that people didn't think Holyfield was a threat to Mike and it's just coming out weird. Either way, color me confused.

God knows when they met in the ring the fans were screaming Holyfield's name.

When Evander Holyfield became older, many of his fights were less memorable partly due to his adoption of a less exciting fighting style, which included more clinching and some head butts. I am not trying to put Holyfield down. In fact, I am much more of an admirer of Holyfield as a professional fighter than of Mike Tyson.

At the same time, I do not look at any fighter with rose-colored glasses. Do you honestly think that Holyfield had people on the edge of their seats like a young Mike Tyson did? Like Joe Louis, Tyson was a human highlight reel when it came to scoring a string of knockouts in stunning fashion. Tyson also had tremendous charisma, something that no heavyweight champion has had since Muhammad Ali.

So now you're talking about him when is old? Like I said, your whole point is entirely confusing.

At the height of his fame, nobody had crowds more electrified than Tyson. By the same token, "Holyfield's Boxing style may not have pleased fans" doesn't make any sense. It wasn't hard to get people to watch an Evander Holyfield fight where I lived. Not hard at all.

It isn't about rose colored glasses, it's just a strange thing to say and I don't think it has any basis behind it.

I guess Tysons prime years were age 21-22?
Pretty convenient for Tyson's fans. I never bought it.
Exactly. While it's very fair to say that he wasn't as well prepared for the Douglas fight as for many of his earlier title fights, some seem to indicate that he was a mere shell of himself for Douglas. The reality was that he was presented with problems that night that he hadn't seen before, and since he hadn't trained as hard, he wasn't able to get the job done and he got beaten up.

There was no shame in that loss, especially after you've cleaned out the division as well as he did in the prior few years, but the incessant excuses from his die hard fans are hard to digest.
