Salford is historically Lancashire - always has been and was for over 600 years until 1974 - if you are trying to place credence on Salford being in the artificial county of 'Greater Manchester' then there will be many who disagree with you, post a letter to an address in 'Salford Lancashire' and yes - it will get there.
Is that your way of saying you were wrong! Very good I would leave it there - unless you want me to rip a whole in your latest dollop of mixed up bs.

Am I biting more than usual this week or has someone turned the level of retardation on this forum up to 11??

A. "Simply put - if a fighter who fought and won the British title goes abroad to win the European title then fans are allowed to say 'its a great night for British boxing' without a load of politically bent Irish fans getting their knickers in a twist about it"

You can say it and you wouldnt be wrong per se - that doesnt make him British though does it.

B. "are you saying citizenship has no bearing on the a persons culture?" - I am saying they are two totally different concepts and are not mutually exclusive.

C. "Magee doesn't have to hold a UK passport but he obviously does so the rantings of some of the small minded on here that Magee would give anyone a clout if they were to state he was British to his face cannot be true!" - like i said, Irish fans couldnt give a shiite if fighters from the north consider themselves British or Irish, but what they do expect is that their nationality is respect whichever side of the divide they sit on. My favourite boxer from Ireland at the moment doesnt consider himself Irish in the way that I dont - do I give a shiite? No!

D. "Salford is historically Lancashire - always has been and was for over 600 years until 1974 - if you are trying to place credence on Salford being in the artificial county of 'Greater Manchester' then there will be many who disagree with you, post a letter to an address in 'Salford Lancashire' and yes - it will get there." - Key word in that sentance is HISTORICALLY - Sligo was HISTORICALLY part of the United Kingdom - it aint anymore, just like Salford aint in Lancashire - no matter what some old farts might think.

'Post a letter' - sheesh you are embarrassing yourself now!

So - you accept that if a British fan considers Magee's win in Denmark a 'Great night for British boxing' then that is basically correct? Former British title holder who holds a British passport goes on to win EBU title.

I think most people would consider it a great night for Irish boxing also. I think most people can accept that lots of people in this day and age have dual nationalities and cultures. :TU:

Like Amir Khan could be seen as British and Pakistani, or Lennox Lewis as British and Canadian, or Trevor McDonald as British and Trinidadian etc etc - the only problem I personally have is when people start to deny the right for others to call themselves 'British' because they don't understand dual cultural identity.

So if Brian Magee, British title holder, British passport holder who has fought most of his career in Great Britain is considered British by boxing fans - it does not diminish his own personal Irish identity.

As for the Lancashire/Greater Manchester debate - Humberside no longer exists, nor does Cleveland nor Avon - they are back to what they used to be! I think if you ask any Mancunian if they consider themselves Lancastrian I think most people would answer yes.
'Post a letter' - sheesh you are embarrassing yourself now!

Want to see Froch laid out due entirely to Gomez. TBH Froch is a little annoying himself, but its just the martydom from Gomez after every win that makes me want to see him lose.

He beat this guy whilst having both his hands amputated, battling swine flu and fighting against the Taliban. If it wasnt for these factors he would have looked 'even' better. I think tonyevs touched on this martydom with a thread of his own after the Dirrell fight

Want to see Dirrell become unified due in part to Autobarn/Gomez.

Why do people get their knickers in a twist over nationality? I consider myself as my own identity, no loyalty to any piece of land or flag(Yes I've served in the British Army but I got paid for that and got to shoot fascists as well so all is good in the end, doesn't mean I give a flying fook about "queen and country" and all that bollocks, to me it was all for personal fortune), loyalty is only to my family and those who are loyal to me.

The flag wavers - British, Irish or any other nationality - on here really need to take a long look at themselves 8)

Hate to agree with Slapbangwhallop again, but I think he's right on this one.
An individual has the right to assert their own nationality, it is not for others to impose their own ideas of identity upon them.

Frank Maloney represents himself well here- comes across as an decent, straightforward bloke, and this by association reflects well on his stable.

If I was at an even where one of the boxrec regualrs was fighting, i'd cheer for them, generally.

I'm from Preston, so demolitiondaley is my "local" boxrec fighter. I'd go to an event if ever there was on in Preston again.

Used to have a big problem with Paul Smith - nowt wrong with Paul - as people have already stated he is a well rounded bloke and I am sure my invitation to a ringside seat to his next fight is in the post - all he has to do is PM me to let me know the details!!! :TU:

In all seriousness - I have my views concerning Smith and his "class" whether that be domestic, european or world - however it is a simple FACT that some of his over enthusiastic fans slating me initially a few months back because I dared to say he wouldnt go beyond domestic class - shall we say created some lively debate - this in turned fuelled my desire to shall we say have some banter back - some of that banter was out of order as I will state again there is nothing wrong with Smith.

I can remember some bloody brilliant debates on this and other forums - which again I am sure posters took sides due to what posters stated rather than their true beliefs concerning the boxers concerned.

Alexander/Farnell - f*ck me some of the banter there was pure class!!!

Haye/Hobson

Calzaghe - there were people who seemed to be in love with him!!!

Carl Froch and his defence

Tony Dodson - he used to get hot under the collar :TU:

Who can forget the Hatton/Witter debates - f*ck me they used to rumble on and on :TU:

But for me the very top of the tree and he will be for sometime is going to be Amir Khan!!! - I truly cannot stand the bloke and I want to see him lose!! - I will leave it there!!! :TU:
I'd send you a ringside just to get your address!!

This thread's like bee's round a honeypot, or should i say trolls round a wishing well. Some proper drama queens ! :OhYes:

Well i'm shocked and saddened that so many of my good friends on here cite me as the reason why they hate Carl Froch. I never knew you loved him so much before me arriving (or should i say, arriving after me.).

Actually I couldn't give a fig. There are a lot of very good posters on here, who's opinion I value highly. Likewise there are a lot of trolls who think fake records and cleverly calculated risks are worthy of respect. Therefore their opinion's are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

I make no apologies for not accepting the cleverly marketed crud that genuine fight fans don't care for, nor sitting quietly whilst those who chase the big fights get derided because they dare mention a troll's idol.

When I set this up I simply meant for people to name the boxers etc they like or don't...should have realised what would happen (although, thankfully, some have done this).

I don't think my views on any fighter are swayed because of someone else's pro/anti views on them. I always try to see the fighter and then form my own opinion.

There's a poster on here that loves Enzo Mac and is in some kind of dream world about his success, ability and future. He makes me dislike him for that, but makes me indifferent about Enzo.

I have the same sort of attitude now re Big Aud. He has been an irritant for ages but people who still don't give him any credit after Friday have got on my nerves.

no1 on this board could sway me i dont think i have formed my own opponions about the boxers i base my dislike of certain boxers on what i have seen of them in and out of the ring
