I can have him as the stronger of the two and that may be enough Tony but I can't concede he is a better boxer, Magee has great skills, it was always his punch resistance and strength that held him back.

Got to be honest and may be in a minority but can see Magee winning this conclusively to be honest, no axe to grind as I like them both as boxers and outside the ring as well

Great matchup this. Two top lads but I'm going to side with Magee on this one. He still has that drive and hunger as I'm sure Paul does but I think Magee's experience will be the difference. I've seen on previous threads that some people think Brian Magee is a shot fighter which is wrong. Although I'm going for Magee, I wish Paul the very best and hopefully the best fighter on the night wins.

hink its good he hasnt beenhappy with his last couple of performances, while showing great grit and detemrination both fights were to be frank not that fan friendly in terms of fluidiity, realise that isnt smiggas fault alone.

Back to the topic, Paul has an awful lot in the locker guys, I've seen and trained with this lad since I was a kid and between him and there Stephen you have 2 very bright lads and mean Intelligent lads!! Really Intelligent!! and 2 that can really fight too!! Paul I really feel always does enough and does what he needs to do, I think the higher up in class he goes the more he'll take out the locker!! IMO there ain't nothing Paul can't do, Box,Bang and has some serious heart and conditioning too!! I've never see a man lose that much blood and keep his cool and nerve.. I think this is gonna be a great year for Paul I really do, I think he'll stop Magee and possibly fight for the world title by the end of the year!! I also think Stephen will be crowned a champion this year too!! He deserves to!! Hopefully my predictions come true cos it'll be a fantastic thing for boxing on merseyside!!

I agree with bomber, paul seems to be the kind of fighter to always find a way to win whether its pretty or not, magee looked fantastic in denmark so theres no way this could be a dull fight. great for british boxing

While I'd like to see a fellow scouser do well I can definitely see Magee edging this one. I don't think Smith has the power to stop him and Magee is a slick boxer.

he can defenetley hurt magee who i see as the gate keeper for the next level.all the other names that have been mentioned will be put in full reverse with smith moving onwards & upwards if he seals victory.


id like too see magee beat as it will freshen things up, as we dont know how good smith can be.he really needs to tidy up his boxing v magee though as he's dirty,southpaw,holds all extremely thrustrating factors for smith to deal with.

Magee set for Smith battle

Irish boxing fans can look forward to two major title fights after the British Boxing Board of Control ordered Paul Smith to face Lisburn’s Brian Magee and Gary Sykes to tackle Belfast’s Kevin O’Hara.

For European super-middleweight champion Magee this will mean an opportunity to win back the British crown he vacated last year due to injury against Liverpudlian champion Smith.

Magee’s manager Pat Magee has told irish-boxing.com that negotiations with Smith’s team will begin shortly and if agreement cannot be found the fight will go to purse bids. Either way Magee expects the bout to take place in Belfast in the autumn – most likely September.

Magee added that his charge would more than likely defend his crown on the road in............................

With regards to all the other comments both for and against a win for me, I certainly don't and will not be taking Brian Magee lightly, I don't feel he is shot(I pointed that out before the Larson fight) and I will be 100% on the ball, trust me.
Every fight I have is massive to me, it's all or nothing and this is the title I want and opponent that I want to be fighting.
Like I said I hope it's for my British AND his EBU and I'm sure that can be arranged.
Until then tick over nicely and wait until May 12th for purse bids!

I really admired Smith's gritty win over Dodson, he battled through a lot of claret and stuck with the plan and got the win.

I'm also a big admirer of Magee, who's is often criticised about his chin - but he has lots of great attributes. He is fairly game, has a great arrange of punches and is overall a very good southpaw perhaps at his best now.

I'm pleased this fight has been made and will look forward to both men giving it their all on the night.
