The book also states that Ron Lyle vrs Manuel Ramos(October.9.1971)
was broadcast on KHOW-AM radio live(Denver).
Thats back in the days when the radio stations still broadcast live fights.

There's a very brief clip of Lyle being knocked over by Lynn Ball on the preview of Ball vs Marty Monroe, at 2.18.

I saw it when it happened, that was a long time ago but I don't recall it being a bad decision. Lyle jabbed the hell out of him and Ledoux pressed. He never rocked him like he did Norton. But I could be going senile.

I was just talking about LeDoux last night when I was telling my buddy that he would kick Arreola's ass.

In the closing credits of the 1972 Canadian documentery,it thanks KMRA-TV Denver for the Lyle-O'Halloran fight footage.
Maybe someone should contact them to see if they have the rest of the fight in their vaults along with any other footage Of Ron Lyle fights
in Denver.I would write them a letter(with a S.A.S.E) for a reply rather then an e-mail.

During his amateur and the early part of his professional boxing career,Ron Lyle looked to have tremendous discipline and focus.
But it looks like he went off track either just before but definitely after the fight with Jerry Quarry.

I remember watching the Lyle - Ledoux telecast live on either ABC or CBS on a Saturday afternoon in 1979. And, I was just a wee lad of 17 at the time & was quite excited about the contest as up to then, I'd only seen Lyle fight a handful of times ( vs Ali, Bugner, a replay of the Foreman classic & also vs Stan Ward ).
Unfortunately, at that point in time, Lyle wasn't really capable of giving me the type of performance that I was expecting from him. He was obviously past it by then & coming off of a bit of a layoff.
Thus, struggling with the determined, tough Ledoux. Who was in Lyle's face all night long & managed to hurt/drop Lyle briefly during the contest. Which resulted in the decision being a VERY tight one. Lyle did well with his jab & may have done enough to win, but then again, so did Ledoux.
As I recall, I had Lyle winning the nod by a single point, but it really could have gone either way. With a draw probably the best verdict that could have been given in retrospect.

Ron Lyle(ranked 9th) vs Earnie Shavers(ranked 7th)(1975).
This looks like it may have been secretly filmed from the nose-bleed seats
using a zoom lense.

It wasn't secretly filmed, the footage was used for broadcast in highlight form with a voice over.

Most of Lyle's hometown fights are filmed in that same style from that angle.

It wasnt secretly filmed?
couldnt they get the cameraman a seat closer to the ring and with
a better camera?
when was it originally broadcast with the voice over?
looks like it was filmed by the same person with the same camera
who filmed Lyle vs O'Halloran
BTW Shavers claimed that there was a 2 minute rest for Lyle
between rounds of the knockdown.

Shavers is twisting the truth.

I have the full version and the broadcast HLs version, it's in the exact same style as the Shavers/Jimmy Ellis bout, a post fight voice over, big boxing glove with 'Fights of the Century' written on it stating 'Round 2' then later 'Round 6'

9he also said he was drunk when he accepted the offer over the phone).

It is interesting to note, that Lyle vrs Mathis (1972)and Lyle vrs Blin(1973) were both filmed in Denver.
Lyle vrs Oscar Bonavena (1974)was also in Denver (and the biggest fight held there up to that time)
most likely it was filmed too (by Lyl'es promotor Billy Daniels order) wonder if it still exists ?
those fights look to have been filmed with a sixteen millImeter camera (IMOP)
BTW some trivia here-it was after this fight that Shavers began shaving his noggin
