After one hears Chris Arreola in an interview, one gets the feeling his IQ is much less than room temperature.
Skill is something you learn, you craft. You can't be be blessed with it.IKSRTFO wrote:Zab Judah has had me wondering on more than one occassion how does someone this dumb get blessed with so much talent and skill?

That's just because his mouth is crammed full of food.

As a fighter, very smart. But once you take too many punches some of that goes. Chavez wasn't exactly merciful to him in the ring.jrc26 wrote:I am not going to pretend to know if he has a low IQ or not, but I have never heard Roger Mayweather say anything intelligent nor have his actions away from the ring shown him to be very smart. I don't know what he was like as a fighter, but he comes across as a moron on 24/7.
I bet he felt like a real dick after that oneBarryWashington wrote:I'd throw out Nate Campbell for his infamous stunt against Robbie Peden.

I have to disagree with that statement. Mayorga knew how to sell fights and make some money with his limited skills. Pretty smart if you ask me.NICARAGUAN NIGHTMARE wrote:book smarts probably hard to argue against ricardo mayorga
A monkey could figure out controversy & noise = attention. In point of fact, I've had birds, cats & dogs who figured it out. There is nothing intelligent about Ricardo Mayorga. Not a thing.Idisagree wrote:I have to disagree with that statement. Mayorga knew how to sell fights and make some money with his limited skills. That is a good point. However, the fact remains that with his limited skills he made millions. Not because he was good, but because he was good at calling attention. Yet you have better fighters like for example, Paul Williams that will never get the attention that he deserves because he lacks personality. Mayorga is/was smart in the sense that he knew how to sell himself to make money. Other fighters who appear to be way more intelligent can not do that. To me that makes Mayorga a pretty smart guy. Not saying that he is a genious, but he is smarter than he looks.Goodnight, Irene wrote:A monkey could figure out controversy & noise = attention. Oh that was THE ONE!!! Dumbest thing I have ever seen in a ring!p4p1 wrote:I bet he felt like a real dick after that oneBarryWashington wrote:I'd throw out Nate Campbell for his infamous stunt against Robbie Peden.
lol at me re hashing an old thread/discussion but honestly at what grade level do u think ricardo mayorga could read at.Idisagree wrote:That is a good point. It most certainly is not.gilgamesh wrote:Golota giving away 2 wins over Bowe, has to be the single dumbest thing I've ever seen a fighter do in the ring.
As far as just being an all around dumb@$$, Roger Mayweather seems quite stupid to me. Maybe it's just me.
At the very least he was very witty. He was a better trash talker than Mayweather is.Goodnight, Irene wrote:In fairness, he also beat down a hot-property version of Forrest, so it isn't all on his controversy (most of it is, though, as he lost to virtually every top fighter of his generation).
I guess in the end, I just see it as a ratio issue. What Mayorga does & why it's successful, IMO, has less to do with his exercising some great cognitive ability, & more to do with the utter morons, in their millions, who will buy his predictable & obviously-feigned schtick. He does have a special place in my heart, though --- as a dyed-in-the-wool De La Hoya supporter, I love him for being the last of the KO victims.
Still, I will give him this much, he played a good pudendum. Ain't every day you hear one fighter call another, "Fat...fat like my baby's ass," (vs. Nando Vargas)
