Listen, i know him well and can tell you he has NEVER been anywhere near 170.
He's one of the few boxers i know who stays relatively near the weight. When he was at our gym he never went above 144, but that was when he was at 135lb, so i'd guess he goes 149-50 max now. He lives the life.
As i've said, he's one of the FEW i know who stays near the weight.

hey mooresy, what where your thoughts on Khan's chin while he was in your gym? could you see it was weak or did you only see it in fights?
what has happened since to make his chin so much better? do you think it will be a problem in the future?

I don`t think he should be fighting up a division - but I also think he shouldn`t be looking at fighting guys from below his division
The talk seems to be him fighting katsidis - why not him fighting Berto? does he expect to convince us by fighting smaller guys?
One of the problems I had with Naz was that the big names he was calling out whilst in his prime were from lower divisions .. where as he had Mayweather 1 weight up

how many 5'10 people, even younger ones who are strong and fit, weigh less than 'about' 160-170?
TOMMY HEARNS IN HIS PRIME AT JUNIOR MIDD?
and he was 6ft 1-2
Jim you gotta get out of the 1930s mate.

he isnt a troll, however he is related to the scots middleweight Bert Gilroy, who fought at a time when the lads fought at thier natural weight. (Gilroy was here, is a decent read also i can recommend it).
Unfortunately for Jim times move on in this regard, but Jim's opinion on boiling down to the weight hasnt .
thats all, no troll, decent enough bloke actually from his posts if a little meloncholic.
He also believes henry cooper would have smashed Lennox lewis which is bordering on trollism however if you believe it and thats your opinion it isnt trolling is it....
time for a rum me thinks.

The times i have met Khan he has been quite slim and bordering skinny.

I honestly don't think his chin is that bad. I think it was more to do with making lightweight than having a bad chin. If it was as bad as being made out he wouldn't have got up from the 1st knockdown V's Prescott.
Just coz it's not granite doesn't mean it's china!
I don't think i will change anyones opinion but IMO it's not that bad.

What top professional fights at their walking around weight? If he can make the weight fine and never had any problems with it, then he's at the right weight.

I agree, but isn't the whole idea to be stronger than the opponent if you can be. What's the point in throwing away that advantage if you don't have to? He would likely concede some speed if he did, and given that his success has been built around his speed, and he catches shots as it is, why change now?

I like Khan and I am a big supporter of his talent and potential,
I just think it needs to be proven honestly, the same as everbody else. Boxing needs to be honest to be improved!
How do you know what he weighs between fights.

I agree that his chin is OK. I think he has a problem with his temple, though, like Haye does. Both were put on wobbly legs in the amateurs. Khan by Craig Watson, Haye by Jim Twitte, I think his name is.

I've always said Khan's chin wasn't as suspect as what people like to make out. Versus Limond he got up and won in the next round, versus Gomez wasn't he put down by a shot to the body?? versus Prescott he just got hit in round 1 by a banger. It might not be the solidest, but it's not China. Good that sumbody agrees!
A friend of mine was stopped in the 1st by a lad who has only scored 1 KO. He went on to challenge a renowned banger for the British title and set what Jim Watt described as a new standard for a losing effort. He was on his feet the whole fight, was stopped in the 12th, on his feet arguing with the ref.......it's nonsense.

Part of Khans appeal is the uncertainty of his whiskers .. Nigel Benn was similar. As exciting as Benn was, you had that fear that one punch could get Benn going.
Of course Benns chin was granite in comparison to Khans. But this uncertainty is a big attraction ...

Does anyone think Khan was a young kid not sued to getting hit? I bet he was tagged more in the first two or three weeks in the wild card than he ever had been before.

With large head gear on and heavy gloves.
If Khan was always around the the weight .. then weight making excuses cannot be offered in his defence..
In this weeks BN the excellent Teddy Atlas does (as usual ) an excellent analysis of Khan and Mallignaggi fight. As he states. The result wasn`t anything of a surprise to anybody .. it was a good performance, just what you were expecting though.

Mayweather has always talked about wanting to fight in England and on occassion seriously talked about the prospect of fighting Hatton again to make it happen. I can see Khan racking up a couple of defences and then cashing in for a big Wembley pay day as Mayweather's sacrificial lamb.
