There's nothing wrong with banging the drum on your kid's behalf but you have to be rational.
I really rated Nicky - but years ago.
I'd like to think I'll feel the same again - but put quite simply, it's Nicky who has several points to prove not the likes of Curtis.
As for the childish digs at Dave - well you make yourself look foolish.
It's not hard to remain undefeated if you don't fight for prolonged periods.
Come on Mr Smedley Snr, get things in perspective.
When Nicky starts to deliver then bang the drum from on high.
Until then for your lad's sake I would take it one step at a time with a modicum of good sense.

Mr Smedley,
Where were you with your smart comments when Nicky was doing absolutely ZERO ?
I have supported all of the lads from Sheffield, for too many years to remember.
Never took sides between rival Promotors, rival trainers.
I have made some life long friends along the way, and many acquaintences.
Nicky was a talented lad, but lost his way somehow, some way.
As his father, what did you do about that, forgetting about boxing for a moment.
I can't help thinking that Nicky is probably whincing at your games you're playing on here.
You aren't doing him any favours in my humble opinion.
I genuinely hope that Nicky rediscovers his form and talent, and as you rightly say he's still relatively young.
Surely now is the time to button it, put in the work, get on some undercards and work your way up.
Playing these silly games isn't going to catapult him to anything like championship status.
Please give it a rest and let Nicky's fighting do the talking.

twenty six I know how I might come accross but u don't know the full history of this issue and if u did u would prob have a different opinion.the reason nicki had time out was the illness and death of his grandma and my mother and his head went and lost interest, the issue with coldwell well stab in the. Back that will one day be avenged and u would understand y, the issue with curtis is not personal but as he is attached to coldwell he is just in the firin line but as he is the same weight and told ppl he wants the fight well that's why, nickii has just ad a bit more bad luck standing on a druggy needle while takin his dog out on fields touch wood tests come back neg but the issue with coldwell can only be solved 1 way my way so I don't giv a dam wat ppl think or say,I av given 14 yrs to amatuer boxing not makin 1p and turnin out with my team 25 national finalist in novice aba junior aba boys clubs schoolboy and british as a pro trainer 24 wins 1 draw no losses so like us or not we give 100 percent to this sport heLp kids not 2 faced I say it as it is but I won't be shit on who ever it is and my kids stand by me as sons would. So think what u want deserter and twenty six as It don't bother me and 26 you ask where I was when nicki was doin abslutly nothing, well I was prob at the aba finals with liam cameron or liverpool makin history like first sheffield lad to win a british am title and first to win ABAs since 1944, hope that answers your question, :OhYes:

Some record there Mr Smedley. Nicky is a class little fighter- i'm sure he'll feature at least domestically. I think we have a mutual friend I have a young lad who comes to my boxing classes he's not too bad- loves training. I think you may be related to him or something but I remember you coming up in conversation with his dad. We're over at Blackpool not sure it will ring any bells?

What did Dave do to piss you off so badly- Is it something you can share here? Sorry if its too personal to share, just trying to understand the situation- please feel free to tell me to mind my own business. :TU: Sheffield seems a bit of warzone with regards to boxing- never realised there was so much competition.

Yep I agree, to take a lad from scratch takes a lot more skill and knowlege then just refining what someone has already being shown. That said it can't be denied that Dave has done a fabulous job with Rhodes. They do say 'a change is as good as a rest'. I'm just starting out as a trainer and the point your making is pretty close to home, I totally understand. It happens in the gym where I am- we've got a few who have boxed previously and with them its a case of trying to add more advanced aspects of their game and then you've got the lads from scratch. Its like two completely different jobs. Some of the lads who have being taught incorrectly (not by me  ) are really disjointed and in some ways broken before they've even started. Others, the ones i've been able to spend time with are coming along nicely, not perfect by any means but they understand the values of the fundamentals something that seems to have escaped the less refined boxers at the club. Its a great job though isn't?

good luck anyway hope u turn out lots of champions but the championships are great experiences that are rare to a lot of trainers. But I'm sure u will do a good job,u have to have a bit of luck too as u do in anything, - have been to vegas ,miami and cannes in france and all of them were fantastic but I learnt loads but goin to a national final with a lad u ad as a 10yr old prob tops it.

Chris,
Thanks for the candid reply.
Obviously there are issues that are burning at you from the past, and those issues are personal to you and the other party.
I fully respect that.
I guess what I was trying to say, and probably not putting it well, is that where Nicky is concerned those issues are best filed for future reference if you get me.
I sincerely hope Nicky gets the breaks, re discovers his old ways, skills and abilities and comes back stronger and wiser.
I hope Denis can make some moves Promotionally for him, even if it means doing a bit of sub contracting with another Promotor.
Sheffield is a city with a rich tradition in boxing.
I just sense the city is on its way back with some good kids coming through and a few of the old gits still showing how it's done.
Nicky can and should be a part of that, but I can only say what I feel and calling Curtis out in this way just because of who he is trained by - well it's not the right approach for me.
Good luck to you all.
