ANNIESHRILL if you have such a problem with Johnny Dundee (who you obviously know nothing about) go and look up his record yourself you lazy bugger!. I have too many interesting things to do than waste my time arguing with you for no good reason when its obvious that you have little real interest in either Johnny Dundee or any other fighter but have some strange peculiar interest in picking an argument with me.

addenda to the walcott/dundee moves....walcott would sometimes make the same move as described, but move to his right...dangerous because it make him vulnerable to a left hook...so the timing had to be exact.

I have a tape of a radio interview of joe louis..and if you can imagine joe's voice in your mind it's kind of funny....."that walcott...he'd move one way so i'd wait for the move and the next time he'd go the other way...then when it looked like he was going to come in an punch he'd do somethin' different and be ten feet away!"

(i like to toss in little bits of information like this ...it's a tidy little contrast to the venom that so easily gets tossed back and forth in just about every thread. alas, though, sometimes I feel as if I'm intruding.)

...it's is the contraction for "it is". "Its" is the possessive..therefore an "it" would enjoy listening to "its own voice.'

I watched Renaldo Snipes drop Holmes in Pittsburgh-November 1981...
Larry would be in my top ten heavies, but after the 7th round of that fight, I couldn't give him the 'chin vote'. Still...Larry was great, really liked his style, LOVED that jab!

Actually Ali was down FOUR times in his career- once by Sonny Banks, once by Henry Cooper, once by Joe Frazier, and once by Chuck Wepner.

And Dempsey was down 9 times in that fight because of the lack of a neutral corner rule. Sudenberg was able to keep dropping Dempsey over and over in the 1st round because he was able to whack him right back down when he had him hurt there.

one of the greatest knockouts i have ever seen was Julian Jacksons KO of Herrol Graham. Graham was out cold before he began to fall to the canvas.

Oliver McCall deserves a mention for his chin both Bruno and Lewis were allowed to tee off on him unmercifully for a number of rounds and he absorbed anything that they could throw at him.

Apparently that was NOT Fleischer at ringside giving the orders at all, it was someone who looked a little like him, apparently Fleischer was still seated a row behind at the time.

Hank Kaplan at cyberboxingzone was talking about this, and there aren't really many better authorities on boxing.

Fliescher being the egotist he was, later claimed he had intervened for the good of the sport, but apparently it was the timekeeper or another official who intervened, not Fleischer.

It is a shame that Liston came in in terrible shape for that fight, but all that bollocks about Anchor punches and what have you are just that, bollocks, if ever there was a fix that was it. It is just possible that Liston chose to stay down for other reasons, but there was no way Liston was knocked out by Ali in that fight.

Holmes may not win the best chin, but by god did he have great powers of recovery, he said that when Shavers hit him, he came to as his head hit the canvas, and to think he made it uo to not only win, but stop Shavers it pretty remarkable when you think of the calibre of Shavers' power.

God, I thought this Terap guy was banned, what's he doing back? Do we really have to listen to this overopinionated dotard spewing invective like a billious jack-in-the-box?

jamesmcd...that must have been a lookalike imposter posing as kaplan..becuase if he's such an authority he's know it definitely WAS nat fleischer in the ali/liston incident. there is ample photographic evidence of this...several shots of fleischer from different angles waving at walcott....many knowing witnesses to verify this is fact. absolute fact. walcott himself who knew fleishcer well had no trouble recognizing him and told about the indicident as did many ringside reporters. no ambiguity...just as certain as that was ali and liston in the ring and walcott as referee. when and where did kaplan come up with this one? first time in all the years since the fight anyone has made this comment. no truth. nada. zero.

I doubt it was an imposter, seeing as it was on cyberboxingzone, and he is the editor in chief of the site.

I cannot remember the details, but is was I think something along the lines of the fact that Fleischer late claimed he rang the bell or made the decision that the fight was over, when in fact he did nothing of the sort.

I don't find it hard to believe as the man was an egomaniac.

In no particular order, I'd go with Chuvalo, LaMotta, Frazier, Bonavena, Cobb, Ali, Marciano, Jeffries, Quarry, and Grim.

Due to comparative ineptness, Cobb and Grim may be showing their chins were even better than much better fighters, since they obviously were getting hit much more.

i dont think that a knockdown is a indicator of a bad chin. After all Muhammad ali and foreman both had granite chins, but where knocked down.

The fact is, that these guys got up, showed great recovery and usually went on to win is a great indicator..

Saying that however, it all depends wether you could recovery skills and ability to get up from knockdowns as a good chin. a fighters 'heart' is also connected imo.

If purely the ability to stay on there feet, than no, you are correct, larry would not get the vote from most.
