Small should be very careful because the more he protests, the more he abuses soldiers returning home, one day he may just indeed touch a nerve with the wrong individual & who knows what would happen then? People's emotions are running high & very deep in respect of the Soldiers!

in this thread we see the exact same attitude and comments that were directed at Ali a few decades ago.

Small has every right to say what he wishes, he is obviously a very troubled, lonely individual who has been led astray by someone filling his gullible head with nonsense. For me though there is a line between freedom of speech and provocation/breach of the peace. Those protesters were treading that line VERY finely. They are lucky they live in a very open and tolerant country. If we were a slightly less tolerant country, they would be arrested and tried for those sorts of protests.

As a professional boxer he has a duty to his own career to tread carfully in what he says and to not provoke anger from the good people of this country, the same people who go to his shows. Unfortunately that is what he has now done. He won't get any future work now in UK/America, so well done Small, you just committed career suicide.

The worrying thing for me is that headcases like Small have the perfect profile of the type of people who then go on to do something truly misjudged, like try and set off a bomb somewhere or something equally mental in 'protest'. He has just thrown away a career in boxing, making a further martyr of himself so he might now feel he has nothing left to lose and do something really daft. I hope I am of course wrong but this guy is a truly strange character.

I remember him entering the ring at the 02 to some sort of eerie religious Islamic chanting music, whilst wearing a black cape and death mask...

...on a day that something like 6 young troops were killed in an ambush. If you back the war or not, that's bad taste.

I dont like anyone ramming religion of any sort down my throat - as apart from decent architecture, it's brought nothing but arguments and death for hundreds of years.

They'd get a lot worse than that I imagine, you try something like that in Russia or especially China you'd probably be executed.

Horse you really dont think that there is anything wrong with shouting and hurling abuse at our young soldiers coming home from war, If they dont agree with the war fair enough but demonstrate it in the right direction but these lads have been out doing their duty, their job, they dont want to be out there themselves but they have a job to do and orders to adhere to. These lads are Hero's and I mean real hero's. Its disgusting that they return home from war and get this sort of abuse in there own country.

You think coming into the ring dressed in black, wearing a horror mask to islamic music on a day a load of British troops got blown up is a good thing then?

I thought he may have just been plain ignorant, but now having seen his participation in this demo now definitely leads me to think it was wholly intentional.

small was abysmal anyway in his last 2 fights. he may have some speed but he's never been very good, and if you ask me he was offensive before he came out with any of this political stuff with his gibbering and his showing off.

soldiers who have just come back having served in a controversial war are easy targets, and whether you agree with the conflict or not, they were more likely to be taking orders than giving. it's not like the soldiers necessarily all signed up just so they could do some "crusading" and what ppl like small are doing is simplifying things and generalising all soldiers as one type.

still you have to worry perhaps about boxers getting dropped due to their beliefs, though what small was doing seems inflammatory, and looking at the pic he actually seems to be revelling in it. obviously boxing wants inoffensive muslims like khan, or muslims whose greatest moment of controversy hinges on whether or not he will shave off his beard (danny williams). small's face obviously doesn't fit, plus he's not very good anyway.

Small is entitled to his opinion, and for all the 'THEY ARE HEROES' there are people from other parts of the world that are dead also and the Afghan/Iraqi or whoever they were have family and friends that grieve for them just as the soldoiers have their families and friends here.

Also, if you do not agree with the war, do not fight, lots of people leave the army because they disagree with certain things.

In The Gulf War lots of the UK soldiers that came back were killed by 'friendly fire' and thats worse than fighting the enemy if you ask me.

We shouldn't be in Afghanistan.

A lot of problems could be solved and people pacified by the UK and US not occupying other peoples lands.
