This is the exact thinking that has prevented a slew of big British fights taking place.

'Let's match them when they get to world class', what if they aren't world class, will never get to world class and lose to an import as they are building the 20+ fight run needed to build a domestic fight?

Get it on now before it goes tits up. That is the lesson learned from the light-middleweight debacle, when we waited for the guys to hit top-level on to watch as they all lost in fights they were mostly expected to win.

Agreed. Great looking bill. If all the fights come through I'm more than happy to pay a tenner for it. There's three 50/50 matches there in Macklin-Barker, Cleverly-Murat, Chisora-Sexton. These days we're lucky if we get one on a bill! Brook vs Jennings should be a great scrap too and Woodhouse (provided he gets by Bull) should provide a stern test for Gavin. Also, Rhodes vs Konecy could turn out to be fight of the night. I've seen a fair amount of Konecy; he is tough as nails and will be "bringing it" to Rhodes. But you can't help but be skeptical seeing as there have been so many pullouts in recent times. Granted its not all the promoters fault, boxing is the toughest sport as a result boxers are more prone to injury.

But before I commit to either buying a ticket(which I will if I can get some mates to come) or forking out PPV I'll wait until I see press conferences with the fighters in question. Murat must have /will cost a fair amount to bring over as he's with the influential universum(or sauerland -I'm easily confused), he's undefeated and has beaten a couple of world champions already in Sanavia and Campillo. Brook's alledged trouble in female WC could jeopardise the Jennings fight. I mentioned on another thread that it seems Macklin has been scheduled to fight every middleweight under the sun of late. So I'd like to hear from Macklin confirming his fight too before I believe that his fight is 100% on.

I agree with the comments too - if the up-and-comers all take each other on when they start to look the business we may end up with fewer on the fringes of world class, but more capable of the step up as only the genuine ones get through.

How do you get to world class by fighting sub standard opposition? Have these young pros taking on one another in tests and lets see if the winner can make it at a higher level whilst the loser continues to have entertaining fights for the domestic titles. Survival of the fittest

The only time in recent years where the wait has worked out that I can remember is with Haye vs Macca

Often a very good card is compiled on the cusp of a new TV contract.

I'd be interested to see a book on how many of the 7 fights remain unchanged.

We can see Brook is likely to go already.

Dual title showdown, Sexton's improvement, Chisora's madness etc. Can't see either man getting to world class fringes so why not get it on now? Sexton wins and we've got a rubbermatch in store. Happy days.
kk can see where ur coming from but chisora seems to be going places! not sure the right time just for me.... i'm just a moaner clearly ha ha

Just on this - Universum recently lost their TV deal and are either on the brink or have gone into administration

There might be a massive fight on the same night at the 02 in Ireland or Monaco, as the FW show.

Hope not, but very possibly.

I am very skeptical about this card. As many have already said, it is likely that some of these fights with fall through and the TBA's will, true to form, turn out to be bums (although not as bad as Maloney's matchmaking for his prospects).

It appears that the promoter wants to make a statement with his new Saturday night tv deal and the packaging of these fights is him saying 'I still put on the biggest shows'. But, the truth of the matter is that he doesnt have a 'standout' headliner for his Saturday night shows and it is so costly to put on a show with multiple (domestic & European) title fights that it needs a boost from PPV sales. I dont see it doing big PPV numbers - as the mainstream do not have a name to hook them to buy the card.

Also, for the boxing fan, they are already paying £40 per month (me too until a couple of weeks ago - totally sickened with the lack of good matchmaking! )for their sports package and why would they pay £15 for this?

How many of these fights will be screened live on sky? How many will even reach the highlights? The last batch of Khan ppvs were a disgrace - we hardly got to see much of the undercard live and missed on even seeing highlights of some of the names that initially persuaded the boxing fan to buy.

Sexton-Chisora and Brook-Jennings are two most competitive fights but will actually happen? I will reserve plaudits on
this card until it happens, and even then it is not ppv.

If all these fights stay together, I'd pay a tenner for them.

However, kindly indulge me for a second. I'd like to try a little thought experiment.

If you'd pay PPV-prices to watch Fwankie's card, would you pay to watch the following:

An unbeaten former Olympian taking a step up vs. a top-notch, hard as nails two-time former world title challenger
Former world champ vs. perrenial contender in former champ's first test since shockingly losing his world title
All-time great (albeit faded) multiple-time world champion vs. actually a pretty shite fighter who's picked up a couple of vacant titles & whom the Yanks seem to have anointed for some reason that's beyond me
One of the world's foremost unbeaten prospects vs. an unbeaten, hyped-up (within the Trade) dangerman for a vacant world belt

Headlined by the rematch of the Fight of the Year, between a fading all-time great & a guy who has never ever ever been in a bad fight for basically all the marbles in one weight division?

I ask only because I've heard people moaning about how the latter card is on PPV, when to me it seems a perfect illustration of how to stack a card top to bottom--it's not exactly a marathon like the old Don King days (or even FW's latest) but every single fight has intrigue & interest, at least for me.

I don't mind paying for Fwankie's card (as long as it's not twent-odd quid or something silly like that), but I was just looking at the schedules & you know what? If given the choice I'd prefer paying the same amount to get the Yank one instead.

You talking about the Diaz vs Marquez card? Whats the first scenario you've mentioned.

I completely agree, but its not for a £10. Its alot more than that, and how many fights will get shown?

Also I am a little stunned it seems some people actually WANT this FW bill to be on PPV

@ Stu: Yeah, it's the Marquez-Diaz rematch card. THe first fight is Jean Paul Mendy versus Sakio Bika, which opens up TV coverage.

& I agree that I don't like PPV because A) I'm tight & B) it is killing the game, long-term, but I just don't think Fwankie's one is that bad. I just wanted to put the Golden Boy one up here for comparison's sake, because it pisses all over it...

There either going to disqualify Chisora from potential world class- or finish Sexton as a potential prospect. Daft move. The first fight was well timed, both have regrouped well- why meet now when on the cusp of big things.

Put Chisora in with Sprott and Sexton in with Skelton - change the guard! Bring them up together and match them when they are on the fringes of world class.
Are you really a boxing fan?

I could not give a shit about building fighters up to world class before matching them. Thats just code for saying they will likely never fight. Here we have an excellent match up that is genuinely 50:50 and one the fans want to see. If they are both good enough for world class, then they will both make it, a loss on the record means nothing at this stage.

I criticise Fwank a lot but this is a great match-up. If fights are there to be made, just make them.

De Gale v Groves at his next card???

Thanks for the reminder of the original Magnificent Seven, but I meant in the upcoming show.

Of course I am aware but its still a great match now. Sexton has improved a lot and has beat Rogan since then in an impressive performance. Chisora has went on and beat Williams for the British title. It is a natural match up now, who cares if they have already fought? Give me a re-match that is genuinly intriguing than a one-sided match up any time!
